The design team worked to minimally impact the historic west facade, designing the addition as a backdrop to the Market Street entrance. Like a coin with two faces, it also serves as the new face of the library with easy access and modern appeal. The expansive new entry was designed to draw people into the library, providing initial views of the custom designed main circulation desk and historic rotunda beyond. While highlighting the grand spaces, the design team understood the importance of creating new spaces that are welcoming to library patrons of all ages. Therefore, the children s area is bright and playful, with durable furniture and punches of bold color, the youth reading area is vibrant, promoting interactions and exchange, and the adult reading area is soothing and sophisticated. Each space is unique and takes advantage of the natural light introduced by the addition. 3
