Department News The Preuss School Visits UCSD Once each quarter UCSD Theatre & Dance invites students from the Preuss school to dinner and a show at UCSD. Last quarter more than a dozen students came to see The Cherry Orchard and attended a pre-show talk with costume designer, Dominique Hill and a discussion about Chekhov and the industrial revolution with director, Emilie Whelan. This quarter, even more students came to see The Venetian Twins. Director, Jesca Prudencio, held a workshop for the students on masks and the commedia dell'arte. Similarly, Jesca and her dramaturg, Jim Short, offered insight into the creative process of the show as the students observed the actors go through fight call on stage. Approximately thirty students attended the production in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. We look forward to many more events with the Preuss school in the future. Lisa Velten & Ryan McCarthy in Disgraced MFA Acting Alums Lisa Velten Smith ('05) and Ryan McCarthy ('06) are performing in Disgraced at Pittsburg Public Theatre. Performances begin March 10th and run through April 10th, 2016.

He's also a Pakistani-American whose white wife is an artist interested in Islamic forms. When Amir is mistakenly linked to a Muslim leader, his world begins to unravel. Matters come to a head when he and his wife host a dinner party for another power couple - a black female attorney and her Jewish husband. Ricardo Chavira on Scandal Looks like Mellie isn't the only eyeing the Oval Office. On Thursday's "Scandal," a new presidential candidate emerged and he's in the form of a Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) manipulation.

25 Governer Francisco Vargas ('00 MFA Acting Alum Ricardo Chavira, "Desperate Housewives"), the newly-minted American hero who survived the Capitol shooting in last week's episode found himself victim of Cyrus's master plan to persuade him to run for president. Cyrus has had his eye on the Mexican-American politician since his debut two episodes back when secretly scouted him out, in a move displaying his disloyalty to President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young).
