1 Courtney Miller Bellairs BIO Courtney Miller Bellairs is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota. She received a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master of Architecture from Yale University. She taught as a lecturer and senior lecturer in architecture at the University of Portsmouth Faculty of the Environment Portsmouth, UK, London Institute, Central Saint Martins School of Art London, UK, and the University of Greenwich School of Architecture and Construction London, UK from , serving as Program Leader for the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Architecture program Returning to her alma matter, the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, after 10 years in London, she taught and served as Assistant Director of the Architecture Program and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Her passion for architectural education has inspired her to pursue other roles such as International Education Officer for the Royal Institute of British Architects, service on the National Architecture Accrediting Board and National President of the American Institute of Architecture Students. A practicing artist/maker for 20 years, Courtney has a multi-disciplinary practice as an artist, architectural educator, designer and academic leader. Her areas of research and practice focus on: conceptual thinking and processes, visual literacy, design pedagogy and fundamentals, representation and visual practice, drawing and image-making in multiple mediums, color theory, field drawing, integrating the Arts into her teaching, set design, and art, architecture and the church (1950s French Sacred Art and Architecture commissioned by M.-A. Couturier). Courtney Miller Bellairs' conceptual works and paintings explore the relationships between art and architecture and the feelings produced by architecture. Orthographic drawings are important tools for understanding her paintings. Her most notable commission, for the Crown Estate in London, Courtney has exhibited widely in the USA and UK and her pieces are included in private and corporate collections throughout the US, UK, South Africa, Australia and China.
