6 Changes to the Way Eisteddfods are Licensed to Use Music Changes were introduced 1 January 2017 to the way eisteddfods are licensed for their use of copyright music and sound recordings. APRA AMCOS, ARIA and PPCA have worked together to provide a simpler blanket licence for the sector. The blanket scheme covers everything from live performances of copyright musical works, the playing of copyright sound recordings as backing tracks and the copying of sound recordings by entrants for uses such as backing tracks. The new licence is based on a per entry rate, and the fee will is included as part of the entry fee for competitors. Page 6

23 RINGWOOD EISTEDDFOD 63 YEARS ON The Ringwood Eisteddfod was established in 1954, at the initiative of Mrs E.M Taylor and her daughter Ruth. At that time Mrs Taylor, was the President of the Ringwood Arts and Craft Society who then conducted the Eisteddfod. In 1965 Ruth formed as President the Ringwood Eisteddfod Committee. With Ruth s dedicated help and guidance this Committee continues to operate successfully to this day. Music and the Eisteddfod has been a big part of Ruth s family life with also support of her husband Max Hawkins, daughters and grandchildren. The Eisteddfod is by far the largest and longest running cultural event in the Maroondah area. Over the years it has inspired thousands of students to perform in public and to receive a critique from top Australian adjudicators. Originally, held in the old Ringwood Town Hall, it moved to the Ringwood Lutheran Church Hall then North Ringwood Senior Citizen s Hall and now for 2017 to The Maroondah Federation Estate. The Eisteddfod competition has catered for a wide variety of performing arts including Vocal, Speech and Drama, Pianoforte; Orchestral Strings; Classical Guitar; Woodwind and Brass and classic Organ with each division providing competition for junior and senior performers. A large number of past winners of the Ringwood Ana have gone on to be very successful both in Australia and overseas including Liane Keegan, Chang Lai Soong, Susanne Shakespeare, Lisa Robertson and Joshua Bloom. Many other past Eisteddfod entrants are now famous teachers, conductors, adjudicators and performers. These include highly successful performers like Rosalie Carpio now Entrepreneur and Entertainer in Hong Kong; Violinists Joanne and Brian Wallwork who studied in Melbourne and abroad and ar now well established teachers and adjudicators. Famous Guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan, are both most successful guitarists and recording artists. Piano teachers like Glen Riddle, well known for his guidance to many young top class pianists. Nicholas Carter, now world famous conductor. Dancers who have performed in the Ringwood Eisteddfod are also now with the Australian Ballet or performing in live theatre both here and overseas. The Grand Final of the Ringwood Ana and awards night is held at the Karralyka Centre, Mines Road, Ringwood. The date this year is Saturday July 15th commencing at 7:30pm. We welcome Competitors to the 63 rd Ringwood Eisteddfod from all over Victoria and interstate. Through their participation we are able to fulfil our mission To Showcase, Inspire and Reward Performing Arts Scholars Bernie C Page 23
