1 FOUNTAIN UTILITIES CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER Fountain, CO Renovation SQUARE FOOTAGE: 17,160 CONSTRUCTION COST: $1,600,000 COMPLETED: NOV SPACES: In the Heart of Olde Town Administrative Offices Lobby Public Vestibule Storage T he 101 North Main Street building complex consists of building elements constructed at different times using different building materials and systems. The complex is at the northwest corner of Main Street and Ohio Avenue in downtown Fountain, Colorado. The renovated final product neither increases nor decreases the square footage of the building. The original facility was a one-story bank building with a partial basement of brick masonry and wood construction built around the turn of the twentieth century. Additions made in the 1980s consist of a two-story structure to the west of the original building, a one-story former-synagogue physically relocated from Fort Carson to the north of the original building, a flat-roofed connecting building, and a new basement below all of them. The renovation project was broken into two phases. Phase One work repaired the exterior envelope of the once hastily assembled conglomerate. New roofs on all three IT service Warming Kitchen Conference Room Meeting Rooms Copy Room building portions, many new windows, and new doors were installed. The exterior walls received repairs, new waterproofing, and a fresh coat of stucco. Mold, asbestos, and even bat guano were remediated from the interior and water damage repaired. Phase Two work included spaces typical of an office private offices, open offices, break and copy room as well as a large meeting room intended for public use during off hours, a large storage basement, and teller area. The customer service line serves four customers simultaneously, and was specifically designed to mimic the bank s original teller line. The windows into the lobby were also designed to mimic those of the original bank with modern technology. With new electrical and mechanical infrastructure, new sprinkler systems, platform lifts, casework, fixtures and appliances, new finish materials, and specialized additional equipment, the modernized facility maintains its historic character while tracking to achieve LEED Silver. 19

Carolyn Fox Campus Architect The concept café study included numerous ways to minimize the building s footprint and optimize the use of renewable and re-usable materials. One of the primary objectives would be water conservation, by collecting and redistributing excess water. In order to accomplish this, the use of rainwater/stormwater principles that collect, display and distribute water was key. Incorporating recycled materials, such as concrete, wood and denim insulation in the construction while including wind and solar energy sources help lessen the impact on the environment. UNIVERSITY CENTER 1ST FLOOR RENOVATIONS SQUARE FOOTAGE: 1,287 SF CONSTRUCTION VALUE: $477K Areas included were the main circulation corridor, new exterior entrance feature, gaming lounge, information desk, main campus bookstore, and copy center. This work sought to upgrade and enhance the overall circulation of people within the University Center with updated design and signage. Well received by the students and staff, HB&A s work was completed in April of 2012.

3 CLYDE S PUB SQUARE FOOTAGE: 2,705 SF CONSTRUCTION VALUE: $205K The underutilized existing space was used as a common gathering area with video gaming, pool tables, vending machines and general seating. Lacking a specific identity, this bland and simply boring space failed on many levels. Alcoholic beverage service was limited to bottle sales and is now expanded to include draft beers and assorted wines. A curved bar with seating was created to allow individual patrons a place to sit and watch TV on the LCD screen behind the bar. The commercial kitchen provides unique and tasteful appetizer, sandwich and snack plates as well as some salads. A comfortable and intimate seating area was created for students and staff to relax at the end of the day. A variety of seating choices allows the patron to sit at a high table, gather with friends at a lower level dining table, or even relax at a lounge chair to read or listen to music. Flexible furniture can easily be rearranged to accommodate a small musical ensemble, a single speaker/ lecturer, or entertainer. Poetry slams, comedians, or just to watch the ball game, making the space very usable for many venues. The rich, dark textures of the finishes and furnishings give Clyde s an upscale feel, but are also very durable and contemporary. The colors, shapes and ambiance reflect many of today s commercial restaurants and dance clubs. A ceiling with slatted, wooden undulating clouds helps create a more interesting area as it allows vision and light from above, yet intimacy below.

4 NORTH COLORADO SPRINGS READINESS CENTER PROJECT FEATURES Assembly Hall Classroom Library Learning Center Family Support Recruiting & Retention Center Storage Arms Vault SQUARE FOOTAGE: 66,000 Physical Fitness Area Controlled Waste Break Room & Restrooms Military Vehicle Parking POV Parking Access Roads Sustainable Design was a primary focus in developing the North Colorado Springs Readiness Center. A number of features were included in the project design to elevate performance to the targeted level: installation of roofmounted photovoltaic arrays on the west wing of the building and the parking canopies, incorporation of a geothermal borefield beneath the north parking lot, inclusion of solar wall panels along the south wall of the west building wing, and application of daylight harvesting techniques within the building. Development of the Center represents the culmination of a unique collaboration between the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) and the COARNG to locate a National Guard facility on USAFA property. It supports one Infantry Headquarters company and one Infantry company with a combined manning strength of 344. The singular nature of the site required HB&A to coordinate closely with Colorado Springs Utilities, the Colorado Springs and USAFA Fire Departments, Colorado Springs Traffic Department, and the AT/FP officers from both the COARNG and the USAFA. Master Planning and Facility Design Charrettes were conducted over multiple days with all stakeholders involved to ensure the project met all requirements and expectations. The strict architectural guidelines of USAF Academy required close coordination with USAFA leadership to develop a design solution that was acceptable to the USAF Academy without sacrificing the singular identity of the COARNG. The final solution was enthusiastically embraced by both entities. CONSTRUCTION VALUE: $18,600,000 AWARDS: LEED PLATINUM AIA DESIGN EXCELLENCE MERIT AWARD

His exceptional attitude and team skills ensure top performance and adherence to quality, schedule, and cost parameters. He was responsible for designing and managing the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs University Center renovation projects including the Clyde s Pub and Bookstore as well as Fort Carson Child Development Center, USAFA Southeast Asia Memorial Pavilion, and expansion of the El Paso County Coroner s Office. He determined through charrette and program coordination the required functional and spatial requirements of the new structure(s) or renovation. Mike also reviewed operating and maintenance manuals, and warranty items; used design software and equipment to prepare project designs and drawings. EMERGENCY VEHICLE DRIVER TRAINING CENTER MASTER PLAN Multiple City & County First Responder Agencies Project Manager Mike has assisted in developing a Programming / Master Plan for a combined law enforcement, firefighter and emergency vehicle training campus. Amenities developed to-date include an Emergency Vehicle Driver Training course, Urban Training areas, a Weapons Range, as well as several other areas for hands-on instructional teaching. Working closely with the General Contractor and specialized design consultants, Mike has helped develop a budget and phased schedule for design and construction; as well as help outline long term operational and maintenance needs. UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY MULTIPLE PROJECTS USAFA, CO Project Manager/Architect Mike has served as Project Manager and Lead Architect on various projects under the A/E Services contract for this important national Air Force and Higher Education institution. His responsibilities have included leading and directing in house and consultant teams for feasibility analysis, condition assessment, project definition, programming, and design. Notable efforts include a series of renovations in Mitchel Hall, Arnold Hall, and the Aeronautics Laboratory in the main academic area of the base. UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO, COLORADO SPRINGS MULTIPLE Colorado Springs, CO Project Manager/Architect Mike has served as Project Manager for HB&A s continuous service to the UCCS Campus in the design and construction of several small projects (Bookstore Entry/Print Shop Renovation, University Center 1st Floor Remodel & Clyde s Pub Renovation). He developed the design for each project from early programming concept designs through Construction Documents, and followed up with Construction Administration while the facility remained operational. 1

6 AMY UMIAMAKA AIA, LEED AP BD+C Principal in Charge / Project Manager Amy excels in client relationships, organization, quality control, and technical issues. Amy has depth of experience in working on large and small projects with numerous federal and local clients and typically serves as Project Manager and Lead Architect. Project types include administrative, command centers, public safety, airfield facilities, educational, and commercial. Lately Amy has been involved in several projects analyzing a current clients spaces, organizational needs, identifying deficiencies, and helping clients make decisions on how to resolve these types of issues with either renovation or new construction. Supporting facilities include: unheated storage, a maintenance training bay, military vehicle parking, access roads, POV parking, and flammable materials storage. LEED Platinum AIA Colorado Design Citation Award FORT LUPTON READINESS CENTER, MASTER PLAN & DESIGN Fort Lupton, CO 36,000 SF 25 Acres Lead Architect Amy participated in the design and was in charge of the construction documents and consultant coordination for this two story primary facility for the Bravo Rifle Infantry Battalion, including full master plan and development of a 25 acre site. LEED Gold AIA People s Choice Award FACILITIES MASTER PLAN & SPACE PLANNING Castle Rock, CO 40,000 SF Master Plan 103,000 SF Space Planning Project Manager / Lead Architect Amy was the project manager for the Town of Castle Rock Facility Master Plan and Space Planning Project. HB&A interviewed and assessed the spaces for the different Town of Castle Rock departments. Existing spaces were compared to national standards and industry standards and an analysis was done to determine overages and deficiencies in each department. A master plan was developed to provide solutions to the identified problems. Amy was heavily involved in the interviews, generating the space standards, preparing the analysis, holding the shareholder meetings and helping guide a consensus on a way forward for the Master Plan. HB&A is helping the Town implement the Master Plan and is currently designing an addition to Town Hall. UTILITIES OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE BUILDING Town of Castle Rock, CO 20,000 SF Project Manager / Architect After helping the Town decide on an appropriate location and approximate size for this new facility in the Master Plan, Amy was responsible for the design, coordination of consultants, and the specifications in the actual building project. She was the main point of contact through design for both the client and the design team. Amy was also involved in the oversight of the Construction Administration phase of the project. 1

7 STEVE POWELL AIA, LEED AP BD+C Principal in Charge / Project Manager Steve shares leadership roles within the firm as Principal for managing the Architecture Department and firm. He has developed great skills as a strong advocate for our clients and their projects as HB&A resources are assigned and managed, as designs are developed, assisting with grant funding pursuits, and during construction. His talents include financial performance monitoring, mentoring HB&A young professionals, understanding client goals and requirements, balancing critical issues during design and construction, and keeping projects on track. He worked closely with the management team in delivering vivid and relevant images for the Farm guidelines. Under his direction, HB&A developed material and color palettes, architectural styles and finishes and detailed guidelines that contributed to the unique brand and appeal appropriate for this community. JOSEPHINE COMMONS SENIOR BUILDING & DUPLEXES Lafayette, CO 78,000 SF Project Manager / Architect Steve was the project manager and lead architect on the senior building and duplexes. He was responsible for design team meetings, client interaction and documentation, consultant coordination, and assisting with project budgeting. Steve worked diligently with Boulder County to understand exactly what they needed for this project. FOUNTAIN UTILITIES CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT RENOVATIONS 101 N Main, Fountain, CO Project Manager Steve managed the project team to complete the renovation of an existing 2-story facility from the early 1900s and mid-1980s. Work included major exterior elements (new roofing, stucco, accessible entrances, windows, and doors), all new electrical, mechanical, and plumbing, infrastructure as well as new interior spaces and finishes. FIRE STATION PROTOTYPE Aurora, CO Project Manager Steve worked closely with the City of Aurora Public Works staff and the Fire Department leadership to determine their core considerations and priorities for a new prototype fire station. As the project manager for this effort, Steve coordinated multiple discussions, interactive charrettes and an iterative review process which led to a mission driven floor plan providing an ideal solution for future stations. Steve helped to ensure the client was fully satisfied with the final deliverables, design solutions and flexibility in the scope of services provided by HB&A. BLUE DOT PLACE DOWNTOWN APARTMENTS Colorado Springs, CO Project Manager Steve provided senior oversight and project management on this downtown apartment project. He worked closely with the owner and general contractor in design decisions for this unique infill development. Steve met with City Planning and Regional Building officials to verify and establish buy-in on several key design elements. 1
