2 AIA Disaster Assistance Program Mission: The Disaster Assistance Program, with guidance from the Disaster Assistance Committee, provides advocacy, education, and training to advance the role of architects in disaster response.

9 Legal Hurdles for Architects Nationwide, architects face potential liability for the voluntary services they provide After 9/11 and Katrina, the disaster assistance community has changed dramatically. Increased need for credentials, training, and institutional presence. Formalized chain of command State officials are needed as partners. Without connecting ahead of time, architects may be shut out of response and recovery.

Good Samaritan Legislation California Emergency Services Act Enabling act for Safety Assessment Program Article 7.5 Statewide Natural Disaster Volunteer Corps Program Plan to utilize volunteer resources during state of emergency The Office of Emergency Services shall develop a plan for state and local governmental agencies to utilize volunteer resources during a state of emergency proclaimed by the Governor. The office shall consult with appropriate state and local governmental agencies and volunteer organizations in the development of this plan.
