2 photo: Maarten Helle photo: Maarten Helle Leo Polakhuis Saaftingestraat BW Amsterdam The Leo Polakhuis in Amsterdam Osdorp is a complex consisting of a nursing home, a health care centre, living units for the elderly, day care and a medical centre for clinical help In designing the complex, the three main functions (nursing, health care and living) were to be integrated, with the accent on the intimacy of living and not the institutionalized atmosphere of health care The complex consists of a high-rise tower, clad in black tiles, and a lower part with bright horizontal stripes in warm yellow, orange and red photo: Maarten Helle 2005 Claus en Kaan en Woonzorg Nederland HelleBeelden

4 Schutterstoren Oeverpad 1068 Amsterdam This structure is one of the many new projects that are being erected in Amsterdam Osdorp Designed by DKV s, it consists of a shiny, cylindrical tower, standing on top of a relatively slender base 54 luxury apartments with floor areas ranging from 90 to 215 square metres make up the interior, all of which have views of the green surroundings because of the structure's cylindrical shape On the top floor, there are two luxury penthouses With its height of 40 metres and façade made of glass and aluminium, the Schutterstoren stands tall as a striking watch-tower, looking over the greenery of the nearby Sloterpark 2007 DKV en Proper-Stok Groep HelleBeelden photo: Maarten Helle

6 photo: Jeroen Meijer photo: Jeroen Meijer Youth Activity Centre Osdorperban Amsterdam On the Osdorper Ban at the corner of Reimerswaalstraat, is a small but striking pavilion-like building to admire A rectangular volume with an almost transparent, all round glazed ground floor On top is a white painted box body as a high forehead between the surrounding treetops sticks A large part of the tight construction budget was used for the the glass windows downstairs with five meters long and structurally bonded glass doors, for the top is chosen for the cheapest finish available in the : a polyurethane spray facade, resulting in a characteristic bumpy appearance The transparency and clarity of the ground floor was a reply to the fears of local residents that the arrival of a youth center would lead to insecurity on the streets This floor accommodates a walk-in room, a kitchen, a small office and toilets The closed upper house with skylights is an isolated domain for the young people On layer is an activity room in which can be divided into two photo: Jeroen Meijer Public access unknown! m² Main designer, Landscape architect Atelier Kempe Thill Karres en Brands VOF De Stadstuinen jpmm Bus 63 (Reimerswaalstraat) By bike from the city: Take the Meer & Vaart en Osdorper Ban from the Sloterplas (lake)

7 photo: Daria Scagliola & Stijn Brakkee photo: Daria Scagliola & Stijn Brakkee The City Gardens Osdorper Ban 1068 LD Amsterdam The Stadstuinen (Town Gardens) project at Osdorp comprises of 415 residences, constructed on top of parking facilities The location overlooks water and features a park and a treelined avenue The urban design scheme is in keeping with the historic urban structure designed by Van Eesteren, with open zoning taking full advantage of the surrounding countryside and enhancing its quality The plan includes a number of public spaces, each with a character of its own A wide range of housing types and a mix of residential and commercial spaces complement the different ambiences The style of the architecture is light, with liberal use of glass, oiled timber, and aluminium offset by the selective use of stone photo: Daria Scagliola & Stijn Brakkee m² DP6 architectuurstudio DP6_uurstudio

8 Cadiz Wolbrantskerkweg CL Amsterdam The plan is organized into two rows parallel to the water, each consisting of three housing blocks The blocks are repeated along the rows in the tradition of the Western Garden Cities Along the Wolbrantskerkweg, these are broad and low The houses are mirrored to an indoor parking space with private gardens on top On the waterside family houses with private gardens form the base of blocks which are made taller and more slender, to give each house a view to the water Apartments with a roof terrace form the top stories of these blocks Between these slender blocks, public space is created towards the waterside The site forms a connection between two neighbouring parks Therefore the park is allowed to continue into the public area in between housing blocks m² Abbink X de Haas Delta Forte dirkverwoerd

9 photo: Paulien Borst photo: Paulien Borst De Opgang Tussenmeer DS Amsterdam 'De Opgang', situated at one of the important crossings in the urban extension masterplan of Van Eesteren for Amsterdam, combines several different functions in one building: 79 dwellings, a church, child day care facilities and a parking garage The aim was to create a unity between these different functions while still showing their individual identity The church is placed on a platform which gives the impression that it is hovering above street level Due to its formal differentiation and slate materialisation, the church still appears as an independent and recognisable building in the whole ensemble The platform on which the church stands is filled with water to create a basin, thus giving feeling that the church is floating The church hall opens to the park and the water, whereas the meeting hall opens to the perpendicular streets Instead of a classic introverted space for the church presents an open space which is orientated to the public domain photo: Paulien Borst Project is public! m², Urban planner KCAP s & Planners NL-development bv KCAP

10 photo: Bjorn Utpott De Kikker Evertsweertplantsoen RK Amsterdam Two primary schools, a day-care centre and an area health authority share a new, green complex: a Community School in the neighbourhood Osdorp The goal is to encourage interaction between the groups The design allows each individual part of the building to function at its best Each classroom, for example, has a block containing a cloakroom, toilets, kitchen, (computer) work stations and a mezzanine The whole complex surrounds two inner courtyards in the form of a communal assembly hall and winter garden This forms the basis for the placing of two playgrounds One, for the youngest children, is safely fenced off, the other, for the older and local children has a large platform The whole supporting section of the building is made of wood, making it light in terms of weight and in its overall effect Wood is also a tactile, soft, colourful and varied material, makes the whole building much more welcoming The project was nicknamed 'The Frog' (in Dutch: De Kikker) m² Contractor Dok en Heijmans Stadsdeel Osdorp Bjorn_Utpott Tram 1 stop at: Baden Powellweg Tram 17 stop at: Baden Powellweg Train Station Lelylaan, then take tram 1 or 17 with direction Osdorp

13 Calandparc Pieter Calandlaan Amsterdam The architect made three small residential towers on the former site of the Pieter Caland College, within an urban plan for the municipal district of Osdorp In order to retain as much as possible of the wonderful green character of the area, parking is half hidden under the towers This means that the first storey is situated on an elevated ground floor The part of the parking garage protruding from under the buildings serve as a patio for the dwellings Two spacious penthouses are situated on the uppermost floors Four compact apartments for starters are repeatedly situated on the intermediate storeys The façades consist of prefab concrete floor edges with alternating glass fronts and coloured panels with patterned glass The three towers are identical with the exception of the uppermost storey The different shapes of the penthouses ensure enough variety to give each building its own character 2007 Contractor Arons & Gelauff Bouwbedrijf MJ de Nijs en Zonen MJ de Nijs projectontwikkeling dirkverwoerd

15 Four Towers Jan van Zutphenplantsoen 1069 Amsterdam In Osdorp, SW of Amsterdam, major changes are under way to transform a currently vacant zone into a residential district connected to the existing housing area alongside it All towers are sited according to the given urban footprint and take up the maximum envelope, giving a total of 390 apartments evenly distributed over 11 levels The plan allows for a high degree of interchangeability of layouts so as to offer a diversity of apartment types A central core and a number of strategically positioned service shafts enable the different types to mirror and shift not only with regard to each other but also in terms of the spatial configuration within one apartment An aluminum cladding indicates the separation between the apartments, while the mirroring concept of the plan results in a playful façade pattern ranging between alteration and iteration, between standardizing and individualizing The twofold elements bring about a subtle discontinuation within the unitized surface 2008 Wiel Arets s Delta Forte jpmm
