2 photo: Jan Bitter photo: Jan Bitter The Angle Citadel Almere The Angle, Almere the is a four storey mixed use housing and retail project containing 54 dwellings and 3900 m2 of retail space completed in 2007 In 1996, Office of Metropolitan s (OMA) began developing a masterplan for Almere that would provide 1000 new housing units and a host of other cultural facilities such as shops, a museum, library and theatre S333 worked alongside internationally renowned architects including Rem Koolhaas, Kazuyo Sejima, Gigon and Geyer, MVRDV, UN Studio, SeArch, Christian Portzamparc, William Alsop and David Chipperfield The Angle (block 7 + 9) is the final project in OMA s masterplan to complete and it signifies the completed construction of Almere s brand new city centre that is expected to reach up to 250,000 inhabitants by 2010 photo: Jan Bitter 2007 Technical engineer S333 Pieters Bouwtechniek Almere Hart CV: Bouwfonds MAB, Euro Woningen S

3 photo: Christian Richters photo: Christian Richters Block 16 Koetsierbaan Almere Block 16 is part of the masterplan designed by OMA for a new prestigious city centre in Almere The autonomous expressive block reacts on two conditions: the billowing end marks as a kind of gatekeeper and the building fits in with the right angled grid of the adjacent glass high-rise housing blocks The clock is sited on a basement car park (design OMA) serving as a pedestal The elevated deck level is half occupied by the common entrance and the storerooms The other part is a gym which continued on the parking level below where it ends in the fitness-café, an autonomous pavilion The design of Block 16 is largely based on an analysis of tunnel formwork constructions Implementation of this mode of construction is financially attractive in developing major housing projects Variation in the length of adjacent tunnels breaks the monotonous structure The result is a wavy facade surface providing the block with a dynamic quality (Maarten Willems for René van Zuuk Architekten) m² Contractor Roof & facade consultant René van Zuuk Architekten Dura Vermeer Metaalbouw TSV Pieters Bouwtechniek Ontwikkelingscombinatie Almere Hart cv Rene_van_Zuuk photo: DJ Hoogerdijk 3

4 photo: Bjorn Utpott Silverline Hengelostraat Almere Built on the edge of the Weerwater lake, the artificial lake at the heart of this sprawling, polynuclear polder town (translated: again-water - since Almere is built on reclaimed land and after that, a new lake was planned), it contains 58 apartments, just outside Almere s town centre, which, two decades after its construction, is undergoing a major transformation orchestrated by Rem Koolhaas s Office for Metropolitan ure The façade is made with aluminum cladding, like a tight skin -hence the name The meander form reinforces the logo-like singularity of this building while at the same time catering to market practical demands: there are plenty of takers for the top and bottom levels, far fewer for the middle The middle has therefore been reduced to a minimum and the top and foot maximized An equally rigid logic informs the distribution of windows, which is a direct reflection of the rooms they serve Each window is positioned symmetrically in the central axis of a room m² Contractor Claus en Kaan en Moes Bouwgroep Pieters Bouwtechniek Eurowoningen Bjorn_Utpott photo: Bjorn Utpott 4
