2 The opening lines of the Expat story were written in 1994 in a small office in Ballard Estate, Mumbai. Three business school graduates got together to set up a company to provide NRIs services in India and thereafter became a sub-broker in the Middle East. This created a platform to market real estate projects of Indian developers to prospective buyers in this region. Rama Rao. 252 ACRES AT MOPA SET ASIDE FOR COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT PANJIM: A whopping 252 acres of land acquired for the Mopa international airport will be utilised for commercial development, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Thursday. Addressing media persons, Parsekar said the Mopa airport, the second international airport in Goa, will be built on an area of 84,68,261 sq mtrs (2093 acres), of which 252 acres, over 12 percent of the area, would be utilised for commercial development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the airport along with that for the Electronic City at Tuem on November 13 during his visit to the State. Both projects are proposed on public-private partnership (PPP) model. PLAN FOR NEW AIRPORT NEAR PUNE MAY FINALLY TAKE OFF After going back and forth on three locations, the government is likely to finalise a new site at Purandar in Pune district for the proposed international airport. Officials from the Airport Authority of India and the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) inspected the site for the second time this month and are expected to submit a technical report within a fortnight. The plan to build new international airport near Pune has been in the pipeline for more than 12 years, without much progress because of the want of suitable land acquired without opposition from the farmers. MAHARASHTRA GOVT UNLOCKS AGRI LAND FOR INDUSTRY, EDUCATION INSTITUTES MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has amended land laws to unlock agricultural land for industry as well as public educational and medical institutes, to promote the ease of business under its Make in Maharashtra policy. However, the building rights have been capped at a maximum of 1 FSI which will essentially allow a ground plus one-storey structure, officials said. The additional building rights will be made available on the payment of a premium of 30 per cent of the land rate. Officials said the changed rules will boost industrial growth on the outskirts of cities. CM NAIDU PLANS TO DEVELOP 10 SMART CITIES IN ANDHRA PRADESH HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has plans to develop many mega cities in AP as part of the decentralized development. "We must develop at least 10 smart cities in the state," he said, adding that he wanted the Centre to include these 10 smart cities among the 100 smart cities nationally. And also said the capital should be huge like Hyderabad, where administrative offices along with Assembly and secretariat can exist. PM MODI LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR MOPA GREENFIELD AIRPORT IN GOA Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled on Sunday plaques to lay foundation stones for important development projects, including Mopa greenfield international project. The other project is the electronic manufacturing Cluster at Tuem. Modi also inaugurated phase 3A of Goa Shipyard Limited and construction of Coast Guard OPV project. A large crowd, comprising BJP workers and senior leaders were present for the foundation laying ceremony of BJP government's ambitious projects. DESIGN FOR BKC-2 TO BE READY IN SIX MONTHS: CIDCO Mumbai, Feb 10 (PTI) Design for the proposed Bandra Kurla Complex-2 (BKC-2) project, to be developed in the satellite town of Navi Mumbai, is expected to be finalised within six months, CIDCO said today. The project, coming up in Kharghar, will be spread over 200 hectares, including around 80 hectares of central park and golf course. The actual corporate hub will be on 125 hectares of land. A special purpose vehicle 'Khalapur SPV' has been formed for the project, which would be developed on the lines of CIDCO's Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), a statement issued here said. THE ECONOMIC TIMES GMR, TIDCO TIE UP FOR SEZ IN TAMIL NADU CHENNAI: GMR Infrastructure has signed an MoU with Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) to develop a multi-product special economic zone (SEZ) on 4,300 acres in Krishnagiri district through an yet to be named special purpose vehicle. A GMR spokesperson said the SPV would invest in social infrastructure to help the local community and get them to participate in the benefits of the project. "It will soon take only six-hours to travel between Goa and Mumbai with the four-lane concrete highway we are building," Gadkari said, adding that the rate of road building by his ministry was 22 kms per day. Cidco, which will undertake the cutting of 92-odd metre high Ulwe hill and diversion of the eponymous river, has started some basic work even as the crucial stage II forest clearance is awaited from the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) and a parcel of the tender for hill cutting awaits finalisation. MUMBAI: In a bid to promote its Make in Maharashtra policy, the state government has further eased the procedure for the conversion of agricultural land to bona-fide industrial use. It has set up facilitation committee to smooth over a key hurdle, certification that the land in question is free of encumbrances. Officials say this reform which will boost industrial expansion. Once the committee clears the certification, the project has to be given a "sanad" or official document stating it is free of encumbrances, within 60 days. Tamil Nadu has been allocated Rs 2,064 crore in the rail budget for the financial year The minister allocated Rs 134 crore for a 36km new line between Morappur and Dharmapuri. Rs. 30 lakh has been allocated to conduct a survey for a 201km new line between Dindigul and Sabarimala. Chief minister J Jayalalithaa had also mentioned the project in the list sent out to railways recently. Two sleepy villages, about 555 km from Mumbai, in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra are set to host the country s first sea-world project. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has decided to scale down the project to less than a fourth of its originally earmarked size of 1390 acres in keeping with the demands of local farmers. The project, along the lines of the US-based chain of water-theme amusement parks, was approved by the Congress-NCP regime in 2009, but never took off
