2 REHDA YOUTH - PENANG TOUR 24th & 25th August 2017 St. Jo St. Jo s, a colonial building that is the architectural heart of Gurney Paragon mall, is a dynamic urban centre where art, heritage and culture co-exist at a hot, happening place-to-be. We are proud to preserve St. Jo s as a contribution to Penang s living history and George Town s listing as a United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. Our effort in restoring St. Jo s earned us World Silver award at the FIABCI Prix D Excellence Awards 2014 under the Heritage (Restoration / Conservation) category. In the lead up to this prestigious award, we also won numerous other awards, including a gold award at the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award 2013 and a Gold Award of Special Merit under the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia Engineering Award. The Edison, Georgetown Is the winner of 2017 AHEAD ASIA Awards The Edison George Town, Penang! Charming, Beautiful and Authentic were just a few of the words the judges used to described the way Edison s designers have respected a classic and original building, while injecting a new personality into it. The Edison George Town, Penang is an official nominee for 2017 World Luxury Hotel Awards! o r g e - t o w n - p e n a n g / h t t p : / / The Majestic Theater It was in 1926 when the Majestic Theatre first opened its doors, earning itself the distinction of being the first talkies theatre in the then Northern Malaya. Commissioned by local businessman and philanthropist Khoo Sian Ewe, for whom the street fronting the building is named, the theatre became a favourite hangout for generations of families and friends before its final curtain call in the 1990s. Abandoned for over a decade, the building fell to ruins before it caught the attention of boutique property developer 1919 Global Sdn Bhd, which then set out to restore the building to its former glory. And thus, the Majestic Penang was born. The Light The concept for THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang is a bold and highly innovative one. 3 REHDA YOUTH - PENANG TOUR 24th & 25th August 2017 The Aspen Group Aspen Group houses their Corporate Headquarters, in Aspen House, a Class Two heritage building in George Town which has been awarded the Green Mark Gold Award by Singapore s Building and Construction Authority (BCA). This 86-year-old building is now Malaysia s first and only heritage building with such an accolade. The Group s flagship project Aspen Vision City in Batu Kawan, Penang is a joint venture development with IKEA Southeast Asia, a master-planned intelligent integrated eco-metropolis with first class amenities and facilities in Northern Malaysia. Amongst the key highlights of this 245 acres development include the very first IKEA store and regional shopping centre in Northern Malaysia, Columbia Asia Hospital, Vervéa commercial precinct, Vertu Resort condominium, Vittoria Financial Centre, Viluxe Designer Bungalows, serviced suites, office towers, international school, business class hotel as well as a 25-acre central park. The Habitat Penang Hill With world-class facilities, dramatic natural beauty, and a commitment to conservation and environmental awareness, The Habitat on Penang Hill is the place to visit for the most complete, exciting and educational Malaysian rainforest experience. Rolling hills, pristine rain forest, lush flora, enormous granite boulders and distant views. This world-class ecotourism site, the first of its kind in Malaysia, aims to promote environmental consciousness and conservation awareness tourism. It consists of Nature Trail, Canopy Walk, Tree Top Walk, Fern Garden, Butterfly Bank, Yellow garden, Purple garden, Ginger Grove and Fragrant Grove. Green Initiatives are core elements incorporated into The Habitat project. Earth-rammed walls, a technique using natural raw materials such as earth, chalk, lime or gravel, and green roofs, roofs partially covered in vegetation and a growing medium, have been incorporated into the design and construction of our buildings. Solar and water harvesting technologies are also utilized in the ongoing operations and maintenance. Macalister Mansion Formerly a British shipping port, Penang's George Town is now a vibrant international metropolis. A UNESCO World Heritage site city, George Town strives to strike a balance between past and future, preserving its heritage buildings as it continues to develop into a vital center of industry and tourism. Macalister Mansion is a pioneer project from Heritage Redefined, an initiative spearheaded by hotel owner Dato Sean with the aim of regenerating historic colonial buildings into useful, practical contemporary spaces.sean and coowner Datin Karen worked with Colin Seah of Singapore's renowned Ministry of Design to renovate and revitalize a hundred-year-old colonial mansion, preserving the building's heritage aspects while adding modern-day amenities and contemporary design touches. Together, they conceived the hotel s design as a single holistic vision, with the eight suites and five dining and bar areas working synergistically. Designed and branded as a lifestyle oriented 'residence', the Macalister Mansion and the 6 F&B and Hotel entities that comprise it have been conceived as a single holistic vision by the Ministry of Design based in Singapore. Led by its Design Director Colin Seah, the design differentiates itself from the local boutique hotel scene by its intimate scale, contemporary design and attention to details - design ranging from art curation to uniforms, branding to interior design and everything else in between. Set against the backdrop of a conserved mansion, the heritage spaces have been carefully adapted and key features conserved and infused with contemporary design, allowing the project to strike a balance between the nostalgia of the past and a vision of relevance for the future. The design process spanned an 8 month period from February to September In the 12 months of construction that followed, there were multiple meetings held to discuss the major infrastructural work required to restore a colonial mansion, e.g. retaining and reinforcing original columns, staircases and archways, removing plaster to reveal the original brick walls and wall cornices, and repairing and soundproofing original windows for contemporary hospitality use. As an extension of the grounds, Colin and his team also masterplanned an event lawn where largescaled parties can be hosted.
