3 I In Nicaragua with Bruno Belluomini THE NEW NICARAGUA CANAL, A MAMMOTH PROJECT THAT WILL ATTRACT MANY STRATEGIC SUB-PROJECTS AND IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITIES OF WORK FOR ITALIAN COMPANIES TOO. n June 2013, Nicaraguan leaders signed a 50 billion dollar agreement with a Hong-Kong based company, to build a canal that will extend over 278 kilometres. The project proposed by the HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment Company should connect the Pacific Ocean with the Caribbean Sea, thereby providing a shipping route for container ships that are too big for the Panama Canal. While some believe that the Nicaragua canal building project will dramatically influence the lifestyle of the communities, this enormous project will also inevitably lead to many strategic sub-projects: ports, airports, roads and tourist structures. Just like other Italian 50 Mrd; 278 Km; 30 mt. depth companies, Ares Line has grabbed the opportunity of working in Nicaragua and collaborates on a project with Bruno Belluomini, an architect, in Managua. Managua has a difficult past: a big city surrounded by greenery that has survived earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, dictatorships and wars, all of which have left deep scars. Located in such a challenging urban environment, the convention centre Olof Palme was founded at the end of and 520 wide the 1980s by the Sandinista government with a financial contribution from Sweden, to host a summit of the Non- Aligned Countries.. The renovation works were planned bearing in mind the peculiar aspects of the building (its shape, structure and materials), aspects that had to be maintained because they contribute to the building s uniqueness. In addition to the restructuring and renovation project, a further project included the expansion of the convention centre to include a threestar hotel, a large multi-utility hall with a seating capacity for up to five hundred persons and commercial areas both for the Convention centre and the hotel. Ares Line s role in the project was to do with the interiors of the restaurant, the offices, educational rooms and a plenary hall. As regards the latter, the designer was limited to renovating the false ceiling with embedded lighting systems and wooden flooring. Thanks to a study and a new, more efficient distribution of seats, the total now stands at about 1200 Papillon armchairs by Ares Line, which is 400 more than it used to be. Rolling back the red leather chairs with a simple movement and storing them in special carts to save up space and allowing the hall to be used differently is easy. 4 Multipurpose hall AN EXTRAORDINARY VISUAL IMPACT, PRECISE ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND EXCELLENT RESULTS. ARES LINE AND CONTRACT DESIGN NETWORK HAVE DESIGNED THE MULTIPURPOSE HALL OF BGN BNP PARIBAS HEADQUARTERS IN LUXEMBOURG. The new complex of buildings, designed by M3 Architectes are located in Kirchberg on the city s eastern entrance to the city of Luxembourg. The complex is made up of two sevenstoried buildings on J.F. Kennedy Avenue, and a 14-floor tower. Both buildings were designed and completed with the aim of reaching high eco-sustainable levels, and have obtained three certificates of excellence in Europe: BREEM, HQE and DGNB. OKsigen and ekinox, the names of the buildings, accommodate 4000 employees and collaborators of BGL BNP Paribas, the official inauguration of which took place in July. The project involving Ares Line SpA and Mason SRL for Contract Design Network was to do with creating a multipurpose hall. The client who sought to lease the hall privately wanted it the large hall of more than 500 m2 to be transformed within a few minutes from an auditorium able to host a 490-seated audience on stepped floors into a completely free open space. 494 seats On Demand, 3 different installation mechanisms. Hence, to satisfy the aesthetic and technological needs of this client, Ares Line studied to come up with a tailor-made solution, and designed three different types of the same seat model: one with a retractable mechanism inside the 13 steps of the motorised telescopic grandstand; one that is fixed to the floor but still removable; and one installed typed on the fixed grandstand which hides the step floor system. The seats technology was concluded to be fully compatible with the sophisticated system of the telescopic grandstand. Room X Paris Executive Board Meeting Room Contract Design Network is a business network of leading companies in their sectors Contract Design Network offers itself as global partner to the market In 2014, UNESCO proposed to renew its executive board meeting room at its headquarter in Paris, to celebrate its 70th anniversary in This proposal was presented and immediately accepted by the general commission. A few months after it was proposed, the project went live. The Eiffel Tower-facing building was inaugurated in Known worldwide for its architectural ingenuity and use of advanced building technology available at the time, the structure was designed by many world-renowned architects and engineers. Especially does the circular design of the executive committee s conference room symbolise equality in dignity of all its executive board members, while the ceiling s design represents the meeting of minds under a single keystone. The ceiling is made up of 20 prefabricated radial beams while the wood covered walls and ceilings were a complement of high aesthetic and acoustic performances. UNESCO wanted to celebrate its 70th anniversary in a newly renovated executive board meeting room, where the new millennium and its history would meet, a history that stood as its symbol and character. From the planning to its actual completion, the project was supervised by the technical team of Contract Design Network a network of industry leaders in their respective sectors who collaborate to provide a complete end-to-end support to its clients. Every single improvement was made with the executive board members comfort in mind a new meeting table and ergonomic seats which maintains the image the 1958 architects had in mind while improving their performance to comply with today s regulations. While the technical and electric equipment have been subject of revision, the most advanced new technologies available for meeting rooms today have been adopted. That includes integrated multimedia solutions and electronic devices, such as integrated audio/video control devices, conference systems, simultaneous translation and electronic voting, lighting management and networking, though the whole system has been integrated in the seats which come with microphones, headsets and control panels. The new Auditorium della Tecnica is an area that has been modernised with materials and products made in Italy. Today, the Confindustria building, the house of the Italian industry, has once again become the ideal place (...), characterised by technology, efficiency and beauty, said Antonella Mansi, vice president of Confindustria Organisation. The auditorium located in Viale dell Astronomia in Rome was inaugurated by Gianni Agnelli on May 30, 1974, during the General Assembly. Powered by the Arch Project. Pierluigi Spadolini, immediately came to be known as architecture within architecture because though designed inside a large underground garage, its strong stylistic character shone brightly. In May, 42 years later, its new auditorium Concènto was inaugurated and Ares Line was a proud participant in providing the 741 seats for the audience, the seats for the speakers and the seats for the internal meeting rooms. The new seats, created by designer Giovanni Baccolini, and known under the name Concènto, a harmonious chord of different sounds, embellishes his strong signature style that has always characterised Spadolini s chairs. A CUSTOM PROJECT FOR THE TEATRO COMUNALE OF BOLOGNA THAT WILL MEET THE NEEDS OF MANY HISTORICAL THEATRES. The Teatro Comunale has always been in the heart of Bologna. Its harmonious forms and columns, the splendour of its stuccos and its peculiar acoustics are dazzling yet gentle and all of them contribute towards making the Teatro Comunale a fascinating venue. To this day its facets have been maintained, its noble magnificence, its elegant decorations and its welcoming private boxes. The Fondazione Marino Golinelli helped restore it, giving the city of Bologna back a renovated audience. Working on the Teatro Comunale, a real jewel of the eighteenth century, posed a real challenge to Ares Line, who was awarded the renovation contract, but was able to complete it, thanks to its careful and conservative planning while Giovanni Bortolani (Photographer). introducing technological innovations. The seats, designed on-demand for the Comunale, and which has already gone into production, was created by designer Giovanni Baccolini together with the company s internal technical team. Called Rossini, the seat was designed to save space and allow for more liveability, thereby complying with current laws. The reduced dimensions maintain the same number of seats but have increased the level of comfort to the patrons. As requested by the supervisors, the original seats finishing materials have been replicated, with much attention being given to the smaller details, such as the seats contrasting embroidered numbering. When planning, Ares Lines was also requested to maintain the existing floor holes to install the seats and to completely remove the first 4 rows, removing a maximum of 3 seats at a time for easy handling and stowage. The company took much pride in working on such a historical monument and proved itself adequate for the task, meeting all the requirements and achieving the objective.
