1 ARCHITECTURE FOR ALL Regions l, ll, lll, lv & V FINDING BETTER WAYS TO DESIGN INCLUSIVELY Hall 3B, ICC Parallel Workshop Special Guest Lectures Wednesday, 6 th August 11am 1.00pm ARCHITECTURE FOR ALL FINDING BETTER WAYS TO DESIGN INCLUSIVELY The Forum will be in two sessions in the morning we will have lectures by the architects of some of the winning projects and shortlisted entries to the Friendly Spaces Accessible to All Award, demonstrating how excellence in architectural design is also inclusive. In the afternoon we will have an opportunity to hear more speakers and to see the award winning Remix Dance Company, an integrated contemporary dance company of dancers with and without disabilities, perfom the world premiere of Vanishing Point a duet choreographed especially for the Durban Congress. This will be followed by a lively round table discussion on Inclusive Design as an essential component in the creation of friendly architectural environments. Chairman: Vassilis Sgoutas (Greece) Past President of UIA in the period to Graduated in architecture from the University of Cape Town. Co-founder of Sgoutas Architects in Athens in Actively involved with lectures and writing in matters relating to the environment, disability and poverty. Served on the EEC Helios Committee for the Disabled and the Experts Committees for the European Manual for an accessible built environment and the European Concept for Accessibility. Moderator: Trevor Iu (Hong Kong) - Director UIA Architecture for All Work Programme Region IV, Deputy Chair of Hong Kong Institute of Architects UIA Committee, Founding Member of Association for Universal Accessibility HK. Graduated in Architecture at the Sheffield University, UK. Trevor Iu has 15 years experience as an Architect in the UK, China and Hong Kong. He is now the Architect of the Airport Authority Hong Kong overseeing projects in the Hong Kong International Airport. Opening: Fionnuala Rogerson (Ireland) - Director of the UIA Region 1 Architecture for All Work Programme and currently vice president of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland. She has over 30 years experience as Principal of Fionnuala Rogerson Architects and has won awards for housing, urban and inclusive design. Fionnuala lectures in architectural professional practice in University College Dublin. Publications include a design guide on Access to Heritage Sites for the Irish Department of the Environment, co-authored with Shaffrey Associates.

2 Introduction to UIA Friendly Spaces Accessible to All Award : Krzysztof Chwalibog (Poland) Architect in private practice from 1975 (housing, churches, hotels). Honorary professor of Xian University President of the Polish Architects Association Chairman of the Polish Architecture Council and co-author of "Polish Architectural Policy". Director of Work Program Friendly Spaces Accessible to All UIA Region II Speaker: Allen Kong (Australia) on Potter Street Redevelopment - Director Allen Kong Architect, Member of Building Appeals Board, Victoria, Chair of AIA Victoria Access Committee, Member AIA National Access Working Group, Member of AIA Victoria Member Services Committee. Allen has built a reputation for designing sustainable social architecture in Australia as well experience in Afghanistan, India and Antarctica. A regular presenter at national and international conferences, his projects have received many awards including as project partner with Wintringham, the UN Scroll of Honour 2011, BSHF World Habitat Award 1998 and Academy of Design and Health International Salutogenic Design 2013, AKA 2014 Speaker: William Tam (Hong Kong) on Tamar Park of HKSAR Government HQ William Tam has over 20 years experience as an Architect and urban designer in the UK, China and Hong Kong. Award winning projects include Guangzhou W Hotel, Guangdong and Yunnan Museum in China; International Finance Centre, Tamar HKSAR Government Headquarters and the Masterplan of West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. He is also actively involved in the works of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. Speaker: Pedro Romera Garcia (Spain) on Accessibility Buildings Plan, Gran Canaria. PhD Architect & Professor of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria since Member of the local authority Research, Heritage and Landscape Committee. Appointed in 2008 and is still currently Director of Infrastructures and Projects at the University. In this position he performs management and coordination tasks with regards to all university infraestructures, on-site works and projects being carried out. Privately, he is co-founder of "Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos" in 1999, and his works and projects have received international recognition. Speaker: Jonj Ruhl, Hahn (South Korea) on Buk Seoul Museum of Art - Mr Hahn is an architect with over 30 years experience. He has worked in the USA as well as Korea and has led many cultural and commercial projects including Seoul Museum of Art, Samsung Headquarters, Myeongdong Theatres and others which are all landmark buildings. Mr Hahn has lectured at many universities and currently serves as President for the Korean Institute of Architects. Speaker: Andreas Lauesen, Force 4 Architects (Denmark) on the House of the Disabled People s Organisations and his award winning project Accessible Everyday for Everybody. Andreas Lauesen is founder and chief architect of Force4 Architects. His strength lies in identifying special needs of users and translating them into functional, beautiful and sensual architecture. Andreas Lauesen is distinctly humanist and always puts the individual first. He has extensive experience in designing for society s vulnerable groups, such as severely physically and mentally disabled people. He is a strong supporter of regional architecture, inspired by the local context and local conditions that have a significant impact on the architecture and thereby tie it to the location. Speaker: Magda Mostafa (Egypt) winner of the special Research Award for Autism ASPECTSS Design Index. Magda is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the American University in Cairo, Design Associate at Progressive Architects and Regional Deputy VP for Africa in UIA's Education

3 Commission. Her research interests include design pedagogy and special needs design- particularly autism, for which she has recently developed the Autism ASPECTSS Design Index. She has received various awards including the International Award for Excellence in Design in 2008 and was shortlisted for the same award in She was also nominated for the 2005 UNESCO Prize for Research and Training in Special Needs Education for Children.

Speaker: Eduardo Elkouss (Spain & Argentina) on Award winning projects in Architecture for All from Region lll. Graduated from Buenos Aires University in 1973; Town Planning Post Graduate Studies, Israel; Environmental Sciences UNEP-CIFCA; PhD: Accessibility & Integration for Disabled People in Public Spaces (ETSAM-UPM) thesis cum Laude; World UIA Congresses (Barcelona, Bejing, Berlin, Istanbul, Turin, Tokyo); Over 700 building projects completed (mostly in Spain): adapted schools, cultural, sport, geriatric and shopping centres, housing, institutional buildings, urban design, hotels; member UIA Architecture for All Work Programme Speaker: Isabella Tiziana Steffan on Creativity and Design for all in Italy. An architect and European Ergonomist, expert in environmental Ergonomics and Design for All, consultant in usable and accessible design focused on mobility of weak users, consultant for Interdisciplinary UNESCO Creativity Workshops, teacher in refresher and ergonomics courses promoted by various institutions, including Milan Polytechnic. UIA AfA group R1 member. Delegate of the Chamber of Architects in Milan. Speaker: Annette Blegvad on Danish Architecture for All examples and procedures. Annette is Deputy CEO and head of the Department of Policy and International Relations with the Danish Architects Association. She has been involved in the formulation and implementation of the Association s policy on sustainability and accessibility. Recently, focus has been on providing input to the Danish national architectural policy 2.0 which has just been launched by the Minister of Cultural Affairs.

A unique dance company with a deep commitment to dance and dance education for performers from diverse backgrounds and with different physical abilities. Remix has a reputation as a ground breaking and inspirational force in contemporary dance and dance education. It has won numerousawards for its outstanding contribution to Disability and the Arts. Round Table with: Shuaib Chalklen (South Africa) UN EnableSpecial Rapporteur on Disability of the Commission for Social Developmentwho has made extensive contributions to the advancement of persons with disabilities within both regional and global frameworks. Mr. Chalklen has a degree in social science from the University of Cape Town and also studied at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and Harvard University. Senior Policy Analyst in the Presidency of South Africa ( ); Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat for the African Decade of Disabled Persons ( ). Philip Thompson (South Africa)started practice as an architect in South Africa in In 1989 he was involved in an aircraft accident which resulted in T12/L1 paraplegia. He was involved in the restructuring of the disability sector as an executive member of Disabled People South Africa from 1991 to 1999, and chaired the South African Federal Council on Disability from 1994 to In 1992 he started the National Environmental Accessibility Programme the first comprehensive programme to address accessibility in South Africa. Joan Seirlis (South Africa) Qualified as an architect in 1958, worked for one private practice for 25 years doing a variety of work on residences, Industrial buildings, small office buildings, some government work on schools, post offices, a gaol, and minor works. Worked for the Local Authority in Development Control in Durban which was the largest Municipality in South Africa for 6 years. Commenced own practice specializing in Universal Design in 1999, having done further study in Reading England. Represents SAIA on the SABS Working Group SC on Universal Access and Universal Design in the Built Environment. Natalie Mossin(Denmark) Graduated in Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture in President of the Danish Architects Association since 2010, reelected in Natalie Mossin is a partner in Smith Innovation, a Danish company dealing with innovation processes within the building sector. Natalie Mossin is a member of the corps of assessors for architectural competitions and acts as external examiner at the Universities of Roskilde and Aalborg. Chair of the editorial committee of the Danish architectural magazine Arkitekten Co-author and author of several articles on sustainability, architectural quality and innovation. Malcolm Black (South Africa) - struggled with walking since he was a child and has used a wheelchair since the age of 22. Dabbled with engineering and psychology before becoming a founding member, performer and now artistic director of Remix Dance Company.Malcolm works to achieve integration and inclusion throughout the world. Joseph Kwan (Hong Kong) graduated in Architecture at the Queensland Institute of Technology in 1976 and later obtained a M.Sc. in Environmental Psychology from the University of Surrey in 1979.

6 He has more than 34 years experience in international architectural practice having worked in Australia, United Kingdom, France and now 25 years in Hong Kong. Joseph Kwan has been the Director of a Hong Kong NGO specializing in accessible built environments for 18 years.he is the Founding Director of UDA Consultants Ltd. in Hong Kong.
