4 Hilton Times Square As part of a major revitalization project at Times Square, BBB designed a 456-room hotel above a retail and entertainment complex. Guests enter a street-level lobby with access from 42nd and 41st Streets and proceed to a distinctive sky lobby via shuttle elevators. The building s lively, colorful façades enhance the Times Square area and are inspired by Piet Mondrian s painting Broadway Boogie-Woogie. The integration of the hotel s structural, mechanical and vertical transportation systems into the retail and entertainment complex below was one of the design team s greatest challenges. Beyer Blinder Belle served as Executive Architect for this 23-story condominium tower, designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, in Manhattan s West Chelsea neighborhood. A complex curved curtain wall of nearly 1,700 different-sized panes of colorless glass, each with a unique angle and torque, creates floor-to-ceiling window walls that frame expansive views of the Hudson River. A seven-story street wall of mullioned glass creates a privacy screen, while a structural steel grid occupying the void between the tower and the wall forms a semi-enclosed atrium with private indoor and outdoor terraces. 5 21 Club BBB renovated and repurposed the Landmark 21 Club Restaurant s lower level for use as a cocktail lounge with a full bar. The new bar combines restored historic details with contemporary materials and finishes, designed to attract younger patrons. The restaurant is also currently constructing BBB s transformation of two private dining rooms on the first floor into a flexible catering and event space. The spaces are being upgraded to function for today s events, while preserving important elements of the historic interiors and ambiance. 21 Club/Orient Express 4,300 SF $2 million 2013

6 Henri Bendel Landmark Henri Bendel is housed within the Rizzoli and Coty Buildings. This 80,000 SF retail interior spans six floors, the flagship store of the women s fashion division of The Limited Stores, Inc. A four-story central atrium of French limestone and marble is surrounded by galleries that house a series of boutiques and serve as viewing balconies for the Coty Building s decorative glass windows designed by esteemed craftsman René Lalique. Each boutique is separated from the atrium space by traditional steel and glass storefronts. The four public levels of the Bendel store are connected by elegantly proportioned staircases that recall the grandeur of a 19th-century Fifth Avenue mansion. 7 Hermès Men s Store Hermès BBB assisted Rena Dumas Architecture Intérieure in the design of a new, flagship store in New York City for Hermès of Paris. Originally designed in 1927 by McKim, Mead and White, BBB restored the building with a greenhouse addition in The new Hermès store has four floors of selling space and a fifth floor of offices and showroom. The focal point of the design is a five-story, curved stone staircase capped by a circular glass skylight. More recently, BBB performed a façade restoration and served as envelope consultant for the flagship Hermès Men s Store, handling all New York City Landmark Preservation Commission submissions and fast tracking with the Department of Buildings. 8 Grand Central Terminal BBB s retail revitalization of Grand Central Terminal has recaptured the building s commercial appeal and reinvigorated its underutilized spaces. The plan called for reusing the structure of the vacant bank building at Lexington Avenue to create a new 43rd Street entrance with market food vendors mirroring the finest European open-air markets. The redesigned Hyatt Passageway, once bleak, has become an elegant arcade with storefronts and unique shops. Restaurants have been added to the vacant North and East balconies in the Main Concourse. The Lower Concourse, formerly one of the most deserted places in the Terminal, is now filled with quality food tenants. Metropolitan Transportation Authority; GCT Venture, Inc. 9 Natick Collection Natick, MA BBB designed the renovation of the 150,000 SF luxury Natick Mall, originally opened in 1966 as one of the early American enclosed shopping centers, and addition of 550,000 SF of retail space, including coordination of new tenant build-outs and creation of retail tenants architectural design manual. The design for Natick Collection presented the opportunity to bring exceptional architecture to both a large-scale retail and mixed-use development creating a new model for the ubiquitous suburban shopping mall. General Growth Properties 1.15 million SF $300 million 2007

10 General Thelogical Seminary Desmond Tutu Center & Hotel At the General Theological Seminary, located in the heart of the Chelsea Historic District in Manhattan, BBB transformed three nineteenth-century buildings into a gracious new conference center and 60-room hotel. The facility was equipped with modern amenities, while its historic character was preserved and enhanced. A new garden and double-height entrance lobby welcome visitors, replacing parking and a high, forbidding wall. BBB guided the restoration of the magnificent, oak-wainscoted Refectory, and the sensitive introduction of new mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems, including the first connection to the Seminary s geothermal wellfield. General Theological Seminary 60,000 SF $23 million 2007

11 Holly Hunt Showroom BBB designed an exciting space for Holly Hunt, the luxury home furnishings company in the A&D Building, transforming a former rug showroom into a flagship furniture, lighting and textile showroom. This second New York City showroom adds an important dimension missing from her first showroom by providing a street-level presence for Holly Hunt s clients. The showroom consists of a small cellar storage area, ground floor, mezzanine and second floor showroom spaces. A long skylight at the rear of the space allows natural light to stream in, and the floating concrete and glass stairs unite the varied floor layouts. A new, two-story façade complements this dynamic interior. Holly Hunt Ltd. 12,000 SF $4 million 2001

12 NYU Torch Club Built in the 1890s, this elegant Greenwich Village cast iron loft building was previously the home of Kopper s Chocolate Factory and New York University s recycling center before President L. Jay Oliva announced the creation of the Torch Club. The University envisioned it as a place that would contribute to the sense of community for the University s staff, faculty and alumni. BBB s design for the Torch Club includes a dining room on the ground floor level, pub on the cellar level, meeting rooms on the second floor and a full service kitchen with catering capabilities on the sub-level. The pub includes a bar with a custom designed glass-tile mosaic floor around it, a fireplace, and an exhibition kitchen with a copper surround. New York University 16,000 SF $4.1 million 1999

13 Reno Freight House District Reno, NV BBB designed three restaurants within the Reno Freight House District Development: a beer garden, an industrial loft, and a sports bar. The design for each of the distinct restaurants is consistent with the rustic freight house feel and incorporates elements of the base building design including garage doors and exposed steel structures and adds design and decorative elements to give each space its own unique feel. All three venues open up onto the shared outdoor plaza spaces via large overhead garage doors, glass storefronts, and sliding glass door systems. The restaurants openness to the outdoor plazas and to one another allows for easy accessibility between destinations and shared live music venues. SK Baseball LLC 50,000 SF $12 million 2010
