2 Ostendstraße Housing Ostendstraße Frankfurt This housing complex is located on the eastern side of Frankfurt am Main Each floor houses four apartments, two of them south-oriented, the other two north-south-oriented The street façade on the north side interprets the surrounding land development area; with clinker bricks a base has been made On the southern façade, all apartments have generous loggias and balconies Project is not public! 9 photo: Rodney Cudmore photo: Rodney Cudmore MyZeil Shopping Mall Zeil Frankfurt The project's structure was inspired by a fluid form connecting the Zeil, an important shopping street, to the Thurn and Taxis palace (a building re-built in a historical style) People never stay on the ground floor of the structure: upon entering the building, they find a series of fluid paths easing circulation A sequence of voids lets the natural light into the interior spaces, making it pleasant to stop over The facade running along the Zeil embodies a sense of leisure time, entertainment and relaxation The other side is where the entrances to the hotel and offices are located The hotel lobby, reconstructed inside the Thurn und Taxis, is set near the art gallery and the most upmarket shops in the mall The rooms can be reached by lifts, while the conference centre and sports facilities are set on the third and fourth floors A glass-and-steel translucent skin envelops and deforms the entire building Project is public! 10 Voltastraße Housing Voltastraße Frankfurt This housing complex on the Voltastrasse in Frankfurt am Main is the result of a competition held in the autumn of 2001 It reminds of large Viennese residential yards The powerful clinker brick façade of the U-shaped block contrasts with its filigree railings The architecture deliberately makes associations to the factory architecture of the environment, dating from the beginning of the twentieth century and gradually disappearing in this area A few - but clearly defined - advances, regressions and deep roof cuts give a restrained plasticity to the housing block Not only regarding appearance, but also in user friendliness the structure tries to set an example The fifteen dwellings per staircase and three rental units per floor provide for clear size and flexibility Project is not public!
