2 In Memory of Class Member Edgar Howard Perry III July 18, 1930 ~ June 3, 2017 Edward Howard Perry died peacefully June 3, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born July 18, 1930, in Austin to Julia Matthews Perry and Edgar Howard Perry, Jr. He attended Austin grammar and middle schools, graduated high school from Culver Military Academy, and attended the University of Texas. Edgar is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda, and children Sheri Perry Gallo and husband Bill Hudspeth, Chris Perry and Lauri, Ryan Perry and Melissa, all of Austin; Kim Perry of Rodeo, New Mexico, and grandchildren Anthony Gallo, Cassie Gallo McKinney and Paden, Layne Perry, Kate Perry, Cole Perry and Ella Perry, and great granddaughter Lilli Anaya. He is also survived by his sister George Anne Rogers, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by granddaughter Julena Roznowski. Edgar was committed to the Austin and Travis County community and spent much of his life caring for and supporting its citizens. He served on the Austin City Council, , and during his second term was the youngest mayor pro-tem in the country. He served on many community charity boards, including the YMCA, Better Business Bureau, and Goodwill. In 2007 he received the Community Star Award from the Travis County Sheriff's Office, and in 1977 he received recognition from the Travis County Department of Human Services for his outstanding humanitarian services. He served as president of the Travis County Child Welfare Board during the 1960's. He continually sought out needs that others were not addressing and tried to find ways to help. His Christian faith was very important to him. Its teachings of honoring God and serving his fellow man guided his life decisions. He was a Bible teacher and a deacon in several Baptist churches, a charter member of both Highland Park Baptist Church and Austin Baptist Church. He served for many years on the board of Buckner Children's Home in Round Rock. He enjoyed various business ventures in manufacturing, oil and gas, and real estate. His avocation was science and medical research. He found time for sports and outdoor activities, especially tennis, racquetball, golf and fishing. He particularly enjoyed those activities when they included family and friends. More than anything else, he treasured spending quality time with his beloved family. The family remembers most his generous spirit and his absolute commitment to the wellbeing of others
