4 Dies In California S. M. Oliphant, 91, Was Former Resident of North Ridge Vicinity NORTH RIDGE, Sept. 14. Silas M. Oliphant, 91, in Los Angeles Cal., on Friday, September 10. Mr. Oliphant was born at Molyneaux Corners on August 26, 1846, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter S. Oliphant. He married Mary E. Southwick and they made their home in what is now known as the Million Dollar highway. Mrs. Oliphant died in September, One son survives, Ira M. Oliphant, of Buffalo. Mr. Oliphant had been a resident of California for the past ten years and had visited friends in this locality during the summer of He was known for his kindly genial disposition. He led a very active life until the past four months when his health began to fail. His favorite pastime was quoit-pitching at which he was an expert. He was a member of the California Club of Quoit-pitchers and had the distinction of being the oldest member in the state. Mr. Oliphant was a member of a large family, and although not the youngest, was the last to survive. The body will be cremated in Los Angeles and the ashes will be sent East. Burial will take place in the family plot in North Ridge cemetery at some future date. 5 Ashes Of Native Taken To North Ridge NORTH RIDGE, Sept. 30 Silas M. Oliphant, 91, died in Los Angeles, Cal., Sept. 10. Funeral services were held there and the body was cremated. The ashes were sent East and interred in North Ridge cemetery, on Saturday. Brief services were conducted at the grave by the Rev. James T. Haugh, pastor of the North Ridge Methodist Episcopal church. Mr. Oliphant spent almost his entire life in this community, having lived but ten years in Los Angeles. He leaves one son, Ira M.
