3 Teaching Institution: Credits: Class Hours: Tutor: Chelsea College of Arts Sakis Kyratzis Sample Course Outline In this unit you will deepen your understanding of the historical and theoretical context in which interior and spatial design operates. You are required to research, develop, write and submit an essay of 1,500 words with full academic referencing and bibliography. Your individual experience of the sense of place conveyed by a spatial context will be explored through lectures and seminars in which various approaches to the analysis of space and interiority will be investigated. The course lecture series titled Public Perspectives will explore the following topics: Lecture 1 School Lecture 2 Workplace + Project Briefing 2 Lecture 3 Government Group Tutorials (check unit page on Moodle for allocated times) Looking at assessment peer review drafts Lecture 4 Hospital/Hospitality Lecture 5 Shop Lecture 6 Museum Lecture 7 Street Lecture 8 Church/Cemetery Outcomes On successful completion of this module you will be able to achieve the following learning outcomes: Demonstrate knowledge of key principles of interior and spatial design (analysis, subject knowledge). Develop lines of enquiry and make sound judgements in your critical research through yourpresentation, evaluation and interpretation of a given material (research, analysis, experimentation). Communicate your ideas and findings clearly using structured arguments and some specialist language, together with the ability to accurately refer to and acknowledge sources that influence your work (communication and presentation). Learning and Teaching Methods Introduction to research methods. Lectures and artists/designers presentations. Group tutorials to support research process. Assessment You are asked to write a 1,500 word essay about the lecture series on Public Perspectives as outlined above. The question you are to respond to is: How did the lecture series on Public Perspectives change your understanding of Interior and Spatial Design? Your discussion should make reference to at least three of the eight lectures. The essay needs to engage with at least three of the eight topics introduced. When writing you are encouraged to make links to other books and places you encounter in your research into the chosen elements of domestic space. The essay must use Harvard Referencing and include a complete bibliography
