The understanding of the principles is developed and expressed through assigned architectural projects. 00 Objective(s) Students will also learn the objectives and importance of graphics and presentation in architecture as a mean of communication of ideas. In this course, students will be: Exposed to basic architectural design principles and their relationships to architectural elements. Learning Outcome(s) Guided as to express these elements in projects that explore initial formal and spatial principles and the conditions associated with the human body and relations of design with the environment. At the end of this course, students will be able to: Demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of ideas in the process and production of design solutions. Use the basic elements of design such as form, space and order in creating spaces that reflect the intentions of the design. All projects address the ideas of form, space and inhabitation, working from basic elements of design through to spatial designs for a client. Project : The kinetic architecture project aims at strengthening the friendship and class spirit in preparation for the rest of the semester. Project : Students will be introduced to the basic elements for form, space and order by researching, analyzing, writing and designing these principles into a post card form. They will be challenged through two projects to take these elements and explore how meaningful forms and spaces can be created. Project one is a case study using sketches, diagrams, and research writing. Project two is the execution of these realizations into a post card form. Project : Students will produce a full-scale habitat or the extension of their bodies that they are able to occupy for a day. The body is treated as an armature and the habitat as an expression of individual perception of self. The site, ergonomic, anthropology and human scale are to be considered as an integral part of the design process. SUBMISSION: All students are to submit a portfolio of the semester s work as part of the requirements of the unit. The portfolio and students attendance comprise the final assessment, which is worth 0% of the unit grade. 0% Page 5 of 5
