Rtn. Dr. Nayanaben took oath as a President and her team was installed by DG Pinkyben Patel at Shree M.P. Shah Medical College Auditorium. Last year s President Rtn. Rajeshbhai gave Presidential awards to various Rotarians for their services in different social projects during last year. Rtn. Nishit Shah gave last year s secretary reports. It was indeed an evening to remember as all the rotarians gathered to show the support for the team During the evening first volume of our this year s bulletin was also presented. D.G. Pinkyben was really pleased the way Rtn. Kamaldeep handled the function on time as MOC. R t n. S h u s i l G u p t a S e l e c t e d f o r R o t a r y International President for the Rotary Year PROUD MOMENT FOR INDIA : Sushil Kumar Gupta, of the Rotary Club of Delhi Midwest, Delhi, India, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for He will be declared the president-nominee on 1 October if no challenging candidates have been suggested. He is Chair & Managing Director of Asian Hotels (West) Ltd.-owners of Hyatt Regency Mumbai and JW Marriott Aerocity New Delhi. He is the Chair of Edenpark Hotels (Qutab-Clarion). He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree by the IIS University, Jaipur, in recognition of his contributions to water conservation. He has also received the coveted Padma Shri Award, the fourth-highest civilian award in India, conferred by the president of India for distinguished service to tourism and social work. 1

2 2 On 23 February 1905, Paul P. Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram E. Shorey gathered in Loehr s office for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting. Harris s desire for camaraderie among business associates brought together these four men and eventually led to an international organization of service and fellowship. Details of first four Rotarians are given below, and about Harry L. Ruggles, who is often called the "fifth Rotarian." Rotary s founder, Harris, was born in Wisconsin, USA, on 19 April He was raised by his paternal grandparents in Vermont and attended the University of Vermont, Princeton, and the University of Iowa. He was Rotary president from 1910 to 1912 and a member of the Rotary Club of Chicago until his death on 27 January Loehr, a mining engineer, was born on 18 October 1864 in Carlinville, Illinois. He was a Rotarian for only a few years, never holding office at the club or international level. But that first Rotary meeting was held in his office, Room 711 of the Unity Building in downtown Chicago. He died in Chicago on 23 May A Rotarian for only a few years, Shorey served as recording secretary during the club s first year. He was born in Maine in August 1862 and died in March Schiele, a coal dealer, served as the Chicago club s first president in 1905 and Rotary International s third treasurer in Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, in June 1870, Schiele attended Terre Haute Business College and served in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War. He was president of the Schiele Coal Company from 1902 until his retirement in He and Harris became lifelong friends and lived near each other on the South Side of Chicago. Schiele died on 17 December 1945 and is buried near Harris at Mount Hope Cemetery. Originally from Michigan, Ruggles was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and joined Rotary at its second meeting. He was treasurer of the Chicago club during its first year, president from 1908 to 1910, and a Rotary director from 1912 to He is known for having introduced singing to Rotary club meetings. His printing company, H.L. Ruggles & Co., printed the first issue of The National Rotarian and the first Rotary songbook. He died on 23 October 1959, an honorary member of seven clubs in addition to his home club, the Rotary Club of Chicago. Paul Harris, The founder Rotary started with the vision of one man Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities. After setting up his law practice in Chicago, Paul Harris gathered several business associates to discuss the idea of forming an organization for local professionals. On 23 February 1905, Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram Shorey gathered at Loehr s office in Room 711 of the Unity Building in downtown Chicago. This was the first Rotary club meeting. I was sure that there must be many other young men who had come from farms and small villages to establish themselves in Chicago... Why not bring them together? If others were longing for fellowship as I was, something would come of it. In February 1907, Harris was elected the third president of the Rotary Club of Chicago, a position he held until the fall of Toward the end of his club presidency, Harris worked to expand Rotary beyond Chicago. Some club members resisted, not wanting to take on the additional financial burden. But Harris persisted and by 1910 Rotary had expanded to several other major U.S. cities. Harris died on 27 January 1947 in Chicago at age 78 after a prolonged illness. When I approached him that I want to start one column about our member s vocation so they can share the important information to our club members, he readily agreed and provide me really nice information for our bulletin. Hope everyone can follow these simple rules to take care of our eyes. Eye Care Tips for Kids : 1. Eye checkup must for preschool kids to detect glasses early or any other eye disease. 2. Avoid Mobile for Kids. 3. Avoid playing video games in Mobile. 4. Avoid Sharp objects to prevent injury concern. 5. Watch TV from safe distance and proper lightning. Eye Care Tips for Adults : 1. Wear UV Protected Sunglasses a. It prevents Cataract b. It prevents ARMD (Disease related to Ratina) 2. Eat food rich in a. Vitamin A, C & E b. Omega 3 Fatty Acids c. Antioxidants 3. Avoid Smoking. 4. Avoid Mobile in Dark. a. It damages Maula. b. Keep less brightness. 5. Avoid excessive use of Computers (can lead to Dry Eyes) 6. Use Less AC. 7. Drink more Water 8. Proper Position of Head. 9. Use proper light. 10. Regular eye checkup by Ophthalmologist. 11. Avoid direct buying of glasses as it can misimpression disease like glaucoma and ARMD. 12. Refraction for proper glasses. 13. In DIABETES or Hypertension a. Regular checkup must to avoid any serious damage to eyes as it can lead to blindness if proper treatment delayed. Eye Care Tips for Factory Workers : 1. Use Safety Glasses. 2. Caustic Soda, Other Alkalis, Acids, Lime are dangerous to eyes. a. Immediately wash eyes times and consult doctor. 3. Use systemic Steroid Judiously as it can cause early cataract glaucoma. Editor s Note I am really pleased to present you second edition of our club s bulletin. Thank you all for your positive review for the first edition and I will try to continue making it more meaningful and interesting and provide the information as much as I can.our Club is going great guns this year and you all can feel the vibrancy within the club meetings and project. We are very lucky that we have a club where mostly members are from various different vocations, so from this edition I am starting one column Vocational Talk, in which I will try to provide some general important information from our club member s vocation and may be some tips from them. I am also very thankful to PP Rtn. Dilipbhai Chandariya who gives his acceptance about providing Basic Rotary Information in each editions. so it will be really helpful for our new members as well as our existing members. One more information I would love to share is the Definition of Rotary Family as per our club laws. Member, Member s Spouse, Unmarried Daughter Any age, Son up to 18 years are considered as Rotary Family and other than that all will be termed as Guest. 5 PROJECT REPORT : ONE ROTARIAN - ONE TREE TREE PLANTATION 12th July, 2018 we had a tree plantation project under the name One Rotarian - One Tree. We Planted 80 trees at Government Dental College compound. Pre. Dr. Nayanaben, Sec. Lalitbhai along with Rtn. Bhavin patel, Rtn. Girdhar Rathod, Rtn. Dilip Chandariya, Rtn. Ashaben patel, Rtn. Kamlesh Savla, Rtn. Rajendra Kabra, Rtn. Kamaldeep Bajaj, Rtn. Kamlesh rathod, Rtn. Nimesh rajput, Rtn. Viral jain,rtn. Rajan trivedi, Rtn. Manish Vora, Rtn. Kapil nagori, Rtn. Chandrakant Kundaliya, Rtn. Vikram gojiya, Rtn. Vinesh Shah were present during the project. GIVE BLOOD - SAVE LIFE BLOOD DONATION CAMP This year we celebrate our installation day in a very unique way. We organized Blood Donation Camp on 13th july,2018 at Dental College Foyer. We collected 40 bottle of blood during this camp. Our D.G. Pinkyben Patel remained present during the camp. Rtn. Girdhar Rathod was the project chair for this camp. 18 Rotarian and the family members of our club donated blood during this camp. Pre. Dr. Nayanaben, Sec. Rtn. Lalitbhai, Rtn. Kamlesh Rathod, Rtn. Hitesh Haria, Rtn. Sharad Sheth, Rtn. Manish Vora, Rtn. Nimesh Rajput, Rtn. Kapil Nagori, Rtn. Bhavin Patel, Rtn. Girdhar Rathod donated blood during this camp. Anns and Annets of our club were also not behind and Truptiben Rathod, Jyotiben Cabra, Rtn. Hemali Shah, Rtn. Varsha Patel, Shilpa Patel also donated blood. Rtn. Dr. Rupenbhai, Rtn. 6 CHARTER DAY CELEBRATION As you all aware we have our charter day on 25th July. The new vibration was clearly seen within the club environment as we celebrated our 70 th charter day in grand style at our Shri Shashi Bhagar and Sarojmaa Rotary Disaster Management Centre. It was really nice to see the hall was packed with our Rotary Family and atmosphere was really lively with members, anns, annets preform singing and dancing to rock the stage. Club Director Rtn. Vinesh carefully selected a superb menu for the function and yummy delicious cake for the occasion. After dinner all members with their family rushed to our hall as it was an entertainment night for rotary family and by rotary family members. During such events we usually hear our Sec. Rtn. Lalitbhai entertain in his unique way of handling MOC... but due to his other commitments he was out of town, but Ann. Shital Savla ensured void of Lalitbhai was not felt as she handled the program very lively and effortlessly. Kids of our Rotary Family Sang and Dance superbly that even our President could not stopped herself from performing a dance on the stage. She along with Rtn. Dr. Jasminben Rathi perform on various mix songs but star performance of the evening was a mix dance done by Rotary Royals (Lady Rotarians and Anns ). They perform so nicely that clapping and whistles from audience were continued through out the songs. Here are few glimpse of the same. 6
