2 QATAR URBAN FORUM 6 th & 7 th March, 2012 Hosted by the Qatar Pavilion, Qatar Urban Forum is a groundbreaking new platform created to discuss issues concerning sustainability, culture and urban development. This platform welcomes a diversity of policy-makers, industry experts and other globally renowned personalities in the field of real estate and urban development and its related social, economic and cultural issues. The forum addresses two main themes Sustainability, Energy and Green Developments (6th March) and Heritage; Culture and Identity (7th March) through four highly relevant topics that focus the discussion and ensure substantive and illuminating outcomes. Over two days, the forum will stimulate dialogue on how to realise progressive urban development that also sustains thriving, successful communities. Keynote speeches by two of the world s most respected practitioners in the field Lord Richard Rogers and Angela Brady provide a thought-provoking introduction, and point of departure, for each day s theme. The first theme Sustainability, Energy and Green Developments, aims to examine and discuss solution-oriented methods for implementing sustainable development and urbanism, and to stimulate more ideas and useful insights regarding architecture and urban development within the context of sustainability. The second theme Heritage; Culture and Identity will focus on the phenomena of increasing contradictions between the «modernisation» of regions on the one hand and the cultural identity of these places. The sessions intend to use this proposition as a point of departure to explore and examine the various discourses regarding regionalism, globalization and their impact on the built environment. The panelist and moderators will bring a wealth of experience and insights from their work around the world, ensuring a lively debate in an effort to further the cause of progressive, sustainable urban development.
