2 Community Development Department 222 Lewis Street River Falls, WI MINUTES HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Wednesday, August 9, :30 pm City Hall - Training Room CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Meeting convened at 5:30 pm Members Present: Heidi Heinze, Sean Downing, Mark Anderson, Jayne Hoffman, Denton Anderson Members Absent: Pam Friede (Excused) Staff Present: Tony Steiner City Planner, Max Erickson, Planning Intern APPROVAL OF AGENDA/MINUTES MSC: M. Anderson/Hoffman to approve the minutes of the July 12, 2017 meeting - unanimous PUBLIC COMMENT Sean discussed idea for post card project. HPC added it to the September Agenda. Tony discussed the upcoming Historic Preservation Conference in La Crosse and asked members to get registration information to him. Staff briefly discussed possible power plant tour in the fall. OLD BUSINESS Oral History Project. Jayne gave an update and discussed methods of interviewing, format for interview, video/audio files and other logistics for developing the project as time permits. The ideas of creating an interview list was discussed. Photo Release Form. the Commission discussed the photo letter and forms. Mark had an updated draft letter for the Robert A. Whittier Trust that he put together for photo graphic material from the Robert A. Whittier Trust. The HPC reviewed letter and approved sending to the Trust. Continue Review of Chapter 3 of Historic Preservation Plan. Chapter 2 revisions were sent to HPC. Chapter 3 revisions ( will be reviewed by HPC in September. Revisions are being compiled and a final review of all revisions will take place in the future. 3 Community Development Department 222 Lewis Street River Falls, WI MEMORANDUM TO: Historic Preservation Commission FROM: Tony Steiner, City Planner RE: Historic Preservation Commission Meeting Agenda Items DATE: September 13, 2017 Item 1: Item 2: Item 3: Item 4: Item 5: RE: River Falls Academy School Superintendent Jamie Benson has been asked give a brief presentation on the River Falls Academy at our next meeting. Please be ready to ask any questions you may have. The School Superintendent has also been asked to arrange for the HPC to take a tour of the Academy building on Wednesday October 11 at 5pm and there will be more details as that develops. RE: Post Card Project At our last meeting, Sean briefly discussed this issue. It was decided to put it on the September Agenda for further discussion. RE: Oral History Project (compile list of People to interview) At our last meeting, we continued discussing doing an oral history project. Members were tasked with coming up with a list of people to interview. The Minnesota Oral History Project Guidelines provided by Jayne were sent to you earlier and can be adopted and modified for our use as a basis for future interviews. Staff looks forward to your ideas and the next steps in how we should proceed with this project. RE: Chapter 3.1 through 3.4 Historic Preservation Plan Update We briefly reviewed changes to Chapter 2 at our last meeting attached is Chapter 3.1 through 3.4 for your review and edit. RE: Photo Release Form The Commission discussed the photo letter and forms. Mark has been working on a letter that we can use as a template for future use. Attached is the letter sent to the Whittier Trust approved by the HPC in August. This can be a template for future letters.
