The dinner will be accompanied by a talk that offers an overview on the evolution of taste, cooking and culinary habits in 19 th Century Europe with a specific focus on Giuseppe Verdi s passion for agriculture, food, recipes and the products of his own properties. The presentation covers the lesser known aspects of the Maestro, through anecdotes and letters that show his deep relationship with food and music as artistic expressions able to connect innovation and tradition. These are offered by the most famous Italian restaurants as well as food & wine importers in Hong Kong. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, he graduated both in Violin and Viola. Winner of first prizes at contests of the S. Cecilia National Academy Orchestra of Rome, the F.J. Haydn Symphony Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, the Opera House of Rome and the Rome Festival Orchestra of New York, at the age of twenty he is already a conservatory professor and at thirty-one he becomes, in Alexandria and Novara, the youngest conservatory director in Italy. He has participated in tours with the Orchestra of the Petruzzelli Theatre in Europe, Brazil and the USA. He has performed as soloist with Orchestras in countries of three continents and is invited to be part of numerous juries of prestigious International Awards. Luca Minervino Luca Minervino has graduated in classical guitar at the "N. Piccinni" Conservatory in Bari under the guidance of the Maestro Sante Tursi, has attended various master classes given by F. Cucchi, E. Isaac, M. Mela, L. Micheli and J. Lorenzo. He has quickly established himself in various national and international competitions. He has played in the first edition of the World Bach Festival (Palazzo Vecchio - Florence), at Teatro del Sale (Florence), at the Music Festival of Nations (Teatro Marcello - Rome), in Cremona on the occasion of the

Mondomusica Festival and in Fucecchio (Florence). In addition, he has performed in New York at the Bronxville Women's Club and also in St. Petersburg at the Italian Institute of Cultural Heritage.

Trained in the art of the guarattelle (traditional Neapolitan puppet theatre) by the masters Bruno Leone and Salvatore Gatto, Gianluca has extended the art beyond traditional theatre to explore an experimental parallel avenue, giving rise to L'uomo che viveva nell'armadio (The man in the wardrobe), based on a 19th-

5 century plot found while rummaging among the curios of Turin's National Cinema Museum. The suggestive shadow play and dextrous handling of puppets in burlesque situations together recount a story of love, betrayal and revenge. In his latest piece, 85. Le anime del purgatorio (Souls in Purgatory), Gianluca rediscovers his Neapolitan roots. Although based on guarattelle, this piece is brimming with visual stimuli that also embrace new languages to create a dreamlike play inspired by Pucinella's vast iconography. The show is dedicated to that halfway house purgatory, which ideally represents Naples' smitten population - a metaphor and symbol of all the peoples of the world. Elegantly and gracefully the Flag-Throwers throw and move the flags spectacularly so that the choreography of the performance is original. The greater chorographical qualities elaborated from the group are stressed in the elegance and in the grace of the movements, the dynamism and the spectacularity of the flag throw, and in the acrobatic figuration patterns. One of the best exhibition performed by the group RIONI DI CORI Italian State Renaissance Flag Throwers is the Skirmish with flags, which embodies the eternal struggle between Heaven and Hell. 9 FREE EVENT Further details at: 02 January 2014 Stefano Rover - Piano Concert with the Hong Kong Symphonia Chamber Orchestra Born in Bologna, Italy, Stefano Rover began studying the piano at the age of four and made his public debut with a short solo recital only a year later. He was admitted to the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Music in Florence studying under Rosa Maria Scarlino, where he obtained his summa cum laude (first honour) diploma. He then furthered his study at the Accademia di Alto Perfezionamento in Perugia and obtained the diploma of excellence under the renowned Lucia Passaglia (pupil of Cortot, Michelangeli and Agosti) who has greatly inspired his style and philosophy of playing. He also won scholarships studying with Joaquin Achucarro and Maurizio Pollini at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. Over the past decade, he has also received invaluable advice from Rudolf Buchbinder, Homero Franscesh and Lazar Berman.
