4 Presentations and Discussions Unlocking Gridlock: A Private Sector Solution Hear a presentation and discussion by All Aboard Florida, an intercity passenger rail project being developed by Florida East Coast Industries LLC (FECI) owner of Florida s premier passenger rail corridor that will connect Miami to Orlando with intermediate stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. A private venture, led by Donald C. Robinson, president and COO, this rail service will provide Floridians and visitors with a viable transportation alternative to congested highways and airport terminals. All Aboard Florida will provide a high-quality experience for passengers and will be the first privately owned, operated, and maintained passenger rail system in the United States. Building a Better Society through Urban Investment Join us for a discussion around civic society and transformation with Alberto Ibargüen, president and CEO (invited) of the Knight Foundation. 5 An Architect s View of Miami From art deco design to issues of resilience and withstanding storms, join us for an architect s overview of Miami. This panel will discuss the history of architecture in South Florida, and provide insight into where design is heading. Commercial Development to Transform Downtowns Join us for a tour and presentation of Brickell City Centre, a $1.05 billion mixed-use development led by Steve Owen of Swire Properties. Strategically located in the center of the Brickell financial district, this is the single largest project underway in downtown Miami. Brickell City Centre is anticipated to bring a whole new level of urban living and sophistication to the area. The 9.1-acre project includes 5.4 million square feet of office, residential, hotel, retail, and entertainment space and incorporates key transportation centers. For more than 40 years, Swire Properties has built projects that have transformed neighborhoods and city centers throughout the world into vibrant places where people live, work, and play. Immigration Come participate in a timely and relevant discussion on immigration, which Miami has experienced for years. 6 Tours Designed by Gehry Partners and West 8, New World Center is home of the New World Symphony (NWS), America s Orchestra Academy. The New World Center is an innovative facility for music education and performance with state-of-the-art technical capabilities. Conceived to be at the intersection of music and architecture, the facility boasts a variety of spaces that inspire creativity and artistic excellence. In less than two decades, the New World Symphony has become a leading cultural institution in South Florida, generating audiences and critical acclaim around the world. The local impact has been profound, with more than 60 annual performances, 15 percent of which are free to the public. NWS brings to Miami many of the leading classical soloists, composers, and conductors of this era. Established in 1987 under the artistic direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, the New World Symphony is a unique educational environment that prepares gifted graduates of distinguished music programs for leadership positions in orchestras and ensembles around the world. Since its inaugural concert on February 4, 1988, the New World Symphony has been heard in such prestigious venues as New York s Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, London s Barbican Centre, Paris s Bastille Opera, and Argentina s Teatro Colon.

7 The Miami Design District is a neighborhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, architecture, and dining experiences. The Miami Design District is owned by Miami Design District Associates, a partnership between Dacra, founded and owned by visionary entrepreneur Craig Robins, and L Real Estate, a global real estate development and investment fund, specializing in creating luxury shopping destinations. A taste of Miami s Famous Joe s Stone Crab Restaurant Joe s Stone Crab was opened in 1913 by Joseph Weiss as a small lunch counter on Miami Beach. Stone crabs are, of course, the mainstay of Joe s menu, and somehow they seem to taste a little fresher and sweeter here. Save room for dessert because Joe s Stone Crab is also famous for their key lime pie. The Miami Design District is made up primarily of old low-rise warehouses and gallery spaces that have been converted into retail spaces, art galleries, restaurants, and cafés. The Design District lies in the crossroads of many prominent Miami neighborhoods, with the artsy Wynwood neighborhood to the south, Little Haiti and the historic 1920s Buena Vista neighborhoods to the north, and the wealthy Upper East Side neighborhood to the east. After decades of succumbin to urban decay, the Design District has risen to fame as a destination for the arts, design, and fashion.
