The concept for One Blackfriars was first envisaged by architect Ian Simpson over fifteen years ago, inspired by the elegance of the Lansetti II glass vase by Finnish artist Timo Sarpaneva and the site s unique location close to the Thames and City of London. Bringing the architect s vision to life has created one of the most complex and ambitious residential developments currently under construction in London. The dedicated construction team continues to realise this new landmark on the skyline, focusing on the tower s frame structure. This not only supports the 50 residential storeys but also a triple-level basement housing the residents facilities and underground car park. The raft slab to this basement is made from 3,200 cubic meters of concrete that was poured in one continuous sitting. At the time it was the second largest concrete pour ever undertaken in one go in London and ranges from 3m to 4.5m in depth. One Blackfriars currently stands 145 metres high and will reach 170 metres upon completion. There are nearly 900 workers currently on-site and this will rise to over 1,200 people at the peak of construction. Materials have been manufactured and procured through a dedicated supply chain and delivered by a team of skilled craftspeople from across the UK and beyond. The external glazing outer skin is complete up to Level 39; in total, 4,000 of these 5,446 external panels are already installed. The inner screens dividing the apartments and the Sky Garden areas are now complete to Level 32. The One Blackfriars project extends well beyond the tower. The construction of a 161-bedroom boutique hotel with a five floor post-tensioned slab, reinforced concrete columns and cores is now well underway. The beautifully rounded façade is installed on Level 2 with works continuing in the next few months. The creation of the internal hotel layout is progressing with a mock up hotel room and main heating being installed alongside the main public health services. Soon, work will commence on the podium building housing residents facilities such as the gym with a yoga garden plus commercial units on the ground floor. In summary, it is an extraordinary feat of construction that brings to life the architects original vision for this iconic development.

The broader project stretches far beyond the immediate One Blackfriars area, reaching all the way from Battersea Power Station in the west to Woolwich in the east. New residential and commercial areas are rapidly being created as London rediscovers the appeal of living by its river; especially on its south side with views back across the City to Westminster and St Paul s Cathedral. For that reason, the area between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge is undoubtedly the most covetable along the southern banks of the Thames, thanks to its huge cultural appeal and central location. Just over 50% of the new tenancy agreements struck over the last two years by Knight Frank offices operating in the South Bank, were for renters aged under 30, reaffirming this as a youthful exciting place to live. The level of home-ownership is also building as more and more people choose to put down roots in this cultural haven in the very centre of London. 5 SPINOCCHIA FREUND PROFILE An artful life inside One Blackfriars is immersed in a cultural haven along the South Bank of the River Thames, and the creativity found close by in worldclass galleries is brought to life in the newly launched show apartment on Level 7. Designed by renowned British interior design firm Spinocchia Freund, the home draws inspiration from works by revered British artist, Barbara Hepworth. From her elegant organic sculptures to minimal works on paper, the legacy of Hepworth s work is referenced throughout the 2,700 sq ft apartment and its three bedrooms and open-plan reception rooms. Spinocchia Freund turned to Hepworth s work for the subtle, earthy colour palette, modern patterns and rich materials including Italian marble, polished Greek Venato Dark marble and Atlantic lava stone that are found throughout the firm s rich design. Barbara Hepworth lived for much of her life on the south coast at St Ives, and the inviting, calm atmosphere of the apartment on the South Bank encapsulates that lifestyle in the city. Rae Underhill, Design Director at Spinocchia Freund, depicts the influence of Hepworth on the interior design: From her elegant organic sculptures, to her minimal drawn and painted works on paper, the legacy of her work is referenced throughout the apartment. There are both bold and exacting expressions of her work such as the entrance console and its reference to her voluptuous vertical bronze forms, or more subtle notes such as the use of her much loved sea foam greens. Investing even further into this artistic heritage, Spinocchia Freund turned to a handful of Hepworth s modernist peers for other elements in the apartment, including a carpet inspired by Piet Mondrian in the reception, a dining table light influenced by Alexander Calder and furniture derived from pieces by Charlotte Perriand. Solid British craftsmanship is evident throughout in elements like bespoke Crittall glass doors and lighting sculptures expertly produced by Junction Fabrication. Beyond this, a Sky Garden has been created to provide an inside outside space and showcase the beautiful views across London.
