3 Introduction Dear Resident Student, It is time to begin the housing application process for the school year. We can t wait to have you back on campus! Every resident student must process a housing application in order to be eligible for the next year s Housing Selection process. This application, along with a $325 housing deposit, is to be completed online by February 1, The following pages provide a brief overview of each residence hall and the apartment-style accommodations. You also will find explanations of housing eligibility and housing guarantees in this brochure. The anther Central website, pc.pitt.edu, has additional information on University housing and the Housing Selection process. lease refer to pages 19 and 20 of this document for the date and time you will need to log on to the website and submit a request for a specific room. Your assigned date and time is the earliest you may access the selection site. lease take the time to read and understand this information completely. 4 rocesses and Definitions Housing Eligibility and Guarantee AM I ELIGIBLE TO ARTICIATE IN THE HOUSING ALICATION ROCESS? You are eligible if you meet all three of the requirements below: 1. You are a current and continuing full-time undergraduate student. 2. You are currently a resident student living in one of our residence halls or apartment-style accommodations. 3. You have no outstanding financial obligations to the University or other holds against your student account. DO I HAVE A ENDING HOUSING GUARANTEE? All housing guarantees are pending completion of the Housing Application and dependent on how students were admitted to the University of ittsburgh as a first year student. rospective freshmen who are admitted through Admissions and Financial Aid for the fall term, pay their $300 enrollment fee by May 1, and their $325 housing deposit by their designated due date are guaranteed on-campus housing. This guarantee is good for three years, provided that all housing application and deposit deadlines for each subsequent year have been met. The Housing Information states whether or not you are a guaranteed student. If you believe you are entitled to a pending housing guarantee but find your Housing Information does not state such, contact anther Central immediately. To keep your housing guarantee valid for the next year ( ) you must meet the housing application processing and deposit deadline of February 1, REQUIREMENTS FOR A ENDING HOUSING GUARANTEE Freshmen who currently live in the residence halls and who, upon entering the University, paid their tuition deposit on or before May 1, 2016, have a pending housing guarantee. Sophomores who currently live in the residence halls or apartment-style accommodations and who, upon entering the University, paid their tuition deposit on or before May 1, 2015, and met their renewal housing deposit and application deadline of February 1, 2016, have a pending housing guarantee. Other students with a pending housing guarantee, including full-academic scholars, Resident Assistants for , full-scholarship athletes, and students with physical disabilities. Greek Housing Students can gain a guarantee of housing to their specific Greek organization housing unit. This guarantee is limited to the total number of accommodations in the unit. In order to obtain this guarantee, your president must notify anther Central by February 1, 2017 of your intent to reside in the unit. Your housing deposit and application must be completed by February 1,
5 rocesses and Definitions Housing Eligibility and Guarantee WHAT IF I DON T HAVE A GUARANTEE? We encourage any senior or other non-guaranteed student who would like on-campus housing to submit their housing application, including the payment of the housing deposit, by the due date of February 1, By submitting your application with deposit payment by the due date, you will be automatically entered onto our electronic housing waitlist, which is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the online Housing Selection and Retention processes for guaranteed students are complete, anther Central will determine availability of beds and will contact you via your pitt.edu account or personal phone number. lease note: the phone number we have on file is sent to us by the Office of the University Registrar. You will have an opportunity to review your contact information when completing the housing application. lease contact the Registrar if your contact information needs to be updated. Students will be contacted by anther Central on a first-come, first-served basis. Your housing deposit is fully refundable if we are not able to find a bed for you, or if you choose to cancel your housing application prior to being assigned. If you have any questions about the non-guaranteed student process, please contact anther Central. HOW DO I ROCESS MY HOUSING ALICATION? anther Central s detailed housing application instructions to every student at their pitt.edu address. The first step of the process is to complete and submit the online housing application, which includes the payment of the $325 housing deposit, by February 1, If you receive a full scholarship or a full financial aid package, you may have your $325 housing deposit deferred. In order to defer the deposit, you must submit verification of your full scholarship or full aid package to anther Central. The submission of the housing application, including the payment of the $325 housing deposit, must be completed by February 1, There are no exceptions, nor will any extensions be provided. Failure to meet this date will result in the loss of any and all guarantees. By completing the Housing Application, you are agreeing to a two-term housing contract for both Fall 2017 and Spring
6 rocesses and Definitions General Room Selection and Retention AM I ELIGIBLE TO ARTICIATE IN THE ROOM RETENTION OR SELECTION ROCESS? You are eligible if you paid the $325 deposit, met the housing application deadline, and have both a housing guarantee and a valid Housing Selection Index number. CAN I REMAIN IN MY CURRENT ROOM? As long as you are eligible to participate in Room Retention, you can retain your current room assignment by participating in the Room Retention process, which takes place online, February 8, After February 8, the Room Retention process will be suspended. You must currently reside in the room you wish to retain. lease reference page 14 of this book for a list of rooms that are excluded from the Room Retention process. The University reserves the right to designate currently occupied rooms as unavailable. If you retain your room, you will not be eligible to participate in Room or Suite/ Apartment-style Selection. CAN I SELECT A NEW ROOM? If you are eligible to participate in Room Selection, then you can select a new room assignment by following the room selection process for your academic class. lease refer to pages 11 and 12 for more details. 4
7 rocesses and Definitions Suite and Apartment-style Selection SUITE AND AARTMENT-STYLE SELECTION To be eligible for Suite and Apartment-style Selection, the number of students must equal the designated suite or apartment capacity. A student may only participate as a member of one group. Any student found to be a part of more than one group voids suite selection for the members of all associated groups. Each group is required to complete a Suite and Apartment-style Application and to nominate a group representative on the application. The Suite and Apartment-style Application will be available at anther Central on January 5, 2017, and are due back at anther Central no later than February 3, * Important: If students currently living together as part of a suite or apartment want to retain the suite or apartment but no longer want to live together, all students in the suite or apartment must follow the normal Suite and Apartment-style Selection process. A bid process is used to determine Suite and Apartment-style Selection based upon the information provided on the Suite and Apartment-style Applications. Each student of the suite or apartment group is given points for their class standing as follows: juniors = 3 points, sophomores = 2 points. anther Central determines the selection order among the groups based upon the highest bid total. The lowest Housing Selection Index Number in each group is used to break ties among groups. On February 15, 2017, at 5 p.m., anther Central will post a schedule at the office and online at pc.pitt.edu indicating when each group is scheduled for Suite and Apartment-style Selection. Suite and Apartment-style Selection takes place online on February 28 March 2, Group representatives must be prepared to make suite, apartment, room, and meal plan selections for all students. Students who are unable to participate in the Suite and Apartment-style Selection process may participate in room selection with their appropriate class. 5
8 rocesses and Definitions Suite and Apartment-style Selection SUITE AND AARTMENT-STYLE RETENTION In order to retain your apartment or suite, at least 50 percent of the current residents must return next fall and they must all have a housing guarantee. Returning suitemates and apartmentmates will be responsible for recruiting additional persons necessary for 100 percent occupancy. All persons must have a valid housing guarantee at the time of application. If these criteria are met, then you can retain your suite or apartment by following the Suite and Apartment-style Retention process. The University reserves the right to designate currently occupied suites/apartments as unavailable for Retention. SUITE AND AARTMENT-STYLE RETENTION ROCESS Your group must complete the Room/Suite and Apartment-style Retention Application, which includes but is not limited to each student s eoplesoft number, meal plan choice for next year, and the ersonalized Housing IN. The application must be submitted to anther Central no later than Friday, February 3, Each group must assign a group representative on the application who will be responsible for submitting the Room/Suite and Apartment-style Retention Application. This involves returning the completed application to anther Central by Friday, February 3, anther Central will then notify the group representative of the retention status of the group, e.g. confirm whether or not they are eligible to retain their desired room, suite, or apartment. Individual cancellations after Retention/Selection could invalidate assignments for the remaining occupants. Any suite or apartment occupant canceling after April 15, 2017, will forfeit the $325 housing deposit. anther Central retains the right to fill suite or apartment vacancies. WHEN AND WHERE DOES SUITE AND AARTMENT- STYLE RETENTION TAKE LACE? Retention takes place online Wednesday, February 8, Only the group representative is permitted access to the online selection site. Group representatives must be prepared to make both the suite selection and the individual room selections for all suitemates, as well as the meal plans for all the suitemates. To assist the group representative, use the completed copy of the Suite and Apartment-style Retention Application to identify meal plan selection. 6
9 rocesses and Definitions Communities within Housing LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES After completing the housing application online, you will be redirected to your previously indicated Living Learning Community Application if applicable. When you request an accommodation in a special living community, you must complete a supplemental application. lease note: by completing the LLC application, you are agreeing to live there if you are accepted. You will not be able to select other housing or participate in the suite/apartment-style bid process if you are booked in a Living Learning Community, with no exceptions. By completing the LLC application, you are also agreeing to abide by the established guidelines and programs of that community. You can obtain more detailed information regarding the criteria for the special living communities from the Office of Residence Life, located on the ninth floor of the William itt Union, or online at studentaffairs.pitt.edu/reslife/llc. GENDER NEUTRAL HOUSING Gender Neutral Housing is available for guaranteed, upper-class students who wish to live together regardless of sex, gender, gender identity, or expression. Gender Neutral Housing is available in Ruskin Hall apartments. HOW DO I ALY FOR GENDER NEUTRAL HOUSING? To be eligible for Gender Neutral Housing, Student(s) will complete a Suite and Apartment-style Application, indicating potential roommate(s), suite/apartment size and Gender Neutral Housing. A group representative is also required to be identified on the application. The number of students listed on the application, must equal the designated suite or apartment capacity. A student may only participate as a member of one group. Any student found to be a part of more than one group voids suite selection for the members of all associated groups. Applications will be available at anther Central on January 5, 2017, and are due back at anther Central no later than February 3, GENDER NEUTRAL SELECTION ROCESS A bid process is used to determine Suite and Apartment-style Selection, including Gender Neutral applicants, based upon the information provided on the Suite and Apartment-style Selection Applications. Each student of the suite or apartment group is given points for their class standing as follows: juniors = 3 points, sophomores = 2 points. anther Central determines the selection order among the groups based upon the highest bid total. The lowest Housing Selection Index Number in each group is used to break ties among groups. anther Central will contact the group leader directly after suite/apartment bid winners are determined. Gender Neutral bid winners will NOT book themselves through the typical Housing Selection process. Instead, anther Central will manually assign the group after speaking to the group leader. If groups do not win a bid, students are encouraged to participate in General Room Selection at their corresponding time. lease refer to pages 8 and 9 for more details. 7
10 rocesses and Definitions What Sophomores-to-Be Need to Know WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW IF I WILL BE A SOHOMORE? Your housing application will indicate if you are eligible for guaranteed housing as follows: 1. Rising Sophomores who paid their tuition deposit prior to May 1, 2016: If the Housing Selection rocess sent to your pitt.edu account indicates that you are a guaranteed student, you must process your housing application and deposit by the due date of February 1, 2017, to be guaranteed housing. Your Housing Selection Index Number will be used to determine the order in which you select your room. If you will be a sophomore and your Housing Selection rocess states that you are not a guaranteed student, refer to the Housing Eligibility and Guarantee section of this brochure. 2. You will participate in the Selection process in order of your years in housing and then Housing Selection Index Number. Rising Sophomores will select their rooms online on March 28-30, 2017, at my.pitt.edu. Refer to Selection Schedule B in this brochure for your specific selection time based on your Housing Selection Index Number. More information is available at pc.pitt.edu. 3. Roommates may choose to live together provided everyone has a housing guarantee and a valid Housing Selection Index Number. The roommate with the lowest Housing Selection Index Number can log on at the scheduled time and select a room for all of the roommates. The individual making the selection must have the personalized housing IN number, as well as the seven-digit identification number (the eoplesoft number) and the meal plan choice for next year for each roommate. 4. Roommates with different academic class status may choose to live together, provided all have a housing guarantee. The roommate with the highest academic class status can log on at the scheduled time and select a room for all of the roommates. The individual making the selection must have the personalized housing IN number, as well as the seven-digit identification number (the eoplesoft number) and the meal plan choice for next year for each roommate. 5. Any person who has a housing guarantee and a valid Housing Selection Index Number, has paid the $325 deposit, and has processed a housing application for next year, but is unable to select a room between March 28-30, 2017, should contact anther Central before 5 p.m. on March 30,

Your housing application will indicate if you are eligible for guaranteed housing as follows: 1. Rising Juniors who paid their tuition deposit prior to May 1, 2015, and met their financial deposit and housing application deadlines of February 1, 2016: Your Housing Selection rocess sent to your pitt.edu account indicates that you are a guaranteed student. You must process your housing application and deposit by the due date of February 1, 2017, to be guaranteed housing. Your Housing Selection Index Number will be used to determine the order in which you select your room. If you will be a junior and your Housing Selection rocess states that you are not a guaranteed student, refer to the Housing Eligibility and Guarantee section of this brochure. 2. You will participate in the Selection process in order of your years in housing and then Housing Selection Index Number. Rising Juniors will select their rooms online on March 14-15, 2017, at my.pitt.edu. Refer to Selection Schedule A in this brochure for your specific section time based on your Housing Selection Index Number. More information is available at pc.pitt.edu. 3. Roommates may choose to live together provided everyone has a housing guarantee and a valid Housing Selection Index Number. 12 rocesses and Definitions Housing Selection Index Number and IN HOUSING SELECTION INDEX NUMBER Every student is provided with a Housing Selection Index Number, also known as a Housing Lottery Number, at the beginning of the current spring term. You will find your Housing Selection Index Number via the Housing Selection rocess sent to your University account. This is a unique number within the range of the total number of current residents and is randomly generated for each current resident student. ERSONALIZED HOUSING IN In order to select roommates during Suite/Apartment Selection or General Room Selection, each person in your group will need to create a personalized housing IN (also known as a Roommate IN) number. The person selecting the room or suite/ apartment-style accommodation must have each roommate s IN number and seven-digit student identification number, also known as the eoplesoft number, in order to select that person as a roommate. Each roommate must also be a guaranteed student, and must have submitted their housing application and deposit on or before February 1, To create your housing IN number, visit my.pitt.edu, go to the My Resources tab, select anther Central, and then select the Housing e-services link. 10
13 Building Descriptions and Information Residential Options Eligible upperclass students who wish to live on-campus housing have two options: residence halls or apartment-style accommodations. lease read below for more information on each. RESIDENCE HALLS Most resident students live in one of 15 residence halls located throughout campus. The University provides every student living in a residence hall with the fundamental amenities of contemporary student life, from furniture to HD Cable TV, as well as wired and wireless Internet access. Every student living in a residence hall is required to purchase a meal plan for both the fall and spring terms. There are both standard rooms (singles and doubles) as well as larger-capacity suite-style rooms in residence halls. If you desire suite-style accommodations, you and your prospective roommates must submit a Suite and Apartment-Style Application to anther Central by February 3, 2017, in addition to submitting your Housing Application by February 1, AARTMENT-STYLE ACCOMMODATIONS Upperclass students can also choose to apply to live in apartment-style accommodations. These accommodations include kitchens, dining rooms, and/ or living areas for between one and four students. The University furnishes each apartment and provides HD Cable TV, as well as wired and wireless Internet access. Residents in apartment-style accommodations may purchase a meal plan, although they are not required to do so. 17 Building Descriptions and Information Overview of Residence Halls Available for Selection and Retention BRACKENRIDGE HALL Brackenridge Hall is part of the Schenley Quadrangle. It houses 206 students in fourand five-person suites. Each suite features a MicroFridge and a private bathroom. Brackenridge Hall also features several single and double accommodations with shared bathrooms. Laundry facilities are located in the penthouse, and a fitness center is located on the ground floor. LITCHFIELD TOWER C Litchfield Towers, located on Fifth Avenue, is the largest residential complex on the Oakland campus. Litchfield Towers has a fitness center, a mailroom, Market Central (the main all-you-care-to-eat dining location), a Quick Zone convenience store, and the Common Grounds coffee cart. Tower C is the smallest of the three Litchfield Towers. It houses 435 freshmen and upperclass students in air-conditioned single rooms. There are communal bathrooms and showers on each floor. A TV/study lounge is on every third floor. Most rooms are equipped with a sink, and each wing has a communal bathroom and shower on each floor. There is a lounge on every floor in Lothrop Hall, as well as a fitness center, laundry room, and mail center on the lobby level. MCCORMICK HALL McCormick Hall is located in the Schenley Quadrangle. It houses 132 upperclass men and women in three-, six-, and seven-person suites. Each suite features a kitchenette with a refrigerator and one or more private bathrooms. Laundry facilities are located in the penthouse and students have access to the Brackenridge Fitness Center. ANTHER HALL anther Hall is located on Upper Campus and houses 511 upperclass men and women. The air-conditioned rooms are a combination of double residence hall-style rooms with private baths, as well as three-person and five-person suites. 19 Building Descriptions and Information Overview of Suite and Apartment-style Accommodations BOUQUET GARDENS Located just a few blocks away from the heart of campus, Bouquet Gardens accommodates 651 students in 172 units across nine buildings. Each air-conditioned unit includes a kitchen, living room, and dining area. arking is not available at Bouquet Gardens. Each apartment in Bouquet Gardens Buildings A-H has four single bedrooms and two bathrooms. Apartments in Bouquet Gardens Building J consist of three-person rooms with one bathroom and four-person units with two bathrooms. Building J also contains a mail center, fitness center, and indoor bike parking; all of which are accessible to the entire Bouquet Gardens community. CENTRE LAZA AARTMENTS Centre laza Apartments are located in North Oakland. The 67 units in Centre laza Apartments house 197 students. The air-conditioned apartments each house one to three students. The kitchens include microwave ovens, garbage disposals, and dinettes, as well as refrigerators, stoves, and dishwashers. Some student parking is available, and high speed internet is available in every apartment. FORBES-CRAIG AARTMENTS Located across from the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, Forbes- Craig Apartments house the University of ittsburgh Upperclass Honors College Community. The 39 apartment units accommodate 102 upperclass students in single and double bedrooms. Limited student parking is available. RUSKIN HALL Located a block from the Cathedral of Learning, Ruskin Hall houses 416 students in one-, two- and three-person apartments, as well as one-person efficiency units. All units feature resident-controlled heating and air conditioning, private baths, and kitchens. There are laundry facilities on every floor, while the main laundry area and fitness center are located on the ground level.
