5 Residency Requirement REQUIRED to have Biola Housing: UNDER 20yrs old by 8/26/15 (first day of fall classes) Full-Time (12+ units) Unmarried Not commuting from home AUG 26 *Class level (FR/SO/JR/SR) is unrelated to the Residency Requirement.

6 Exception Request to Commute Residency Required students wanting to Request to Commute MUST: 1. Submit Request to Commute by Mar 13. (at BiolaHousing.com) 2. ALSO Submit Housing Application in case you are not approved. 3. Financially based requests will be sent a paper form to complete, & are required to meet w/financial Aid. Request will be considered by Housing- about decision will be sent.

8 Get Informed Beware rumors, misunderstandings, and assumptions about Biola Housing or Housing Selection and how you may be spreading them! Come to the Source. or talk to Housing Staff if you need claritywe want to help you! Past Rumors! There s not enough housing for everyone! JRs & SRs have to live in the apts or move off-campus! Biola Housing is more expensive than off-campus. Off-campus housing is easier than Housing Selection. Biola Housing is a back-up until I find other options.

10 Submit Application Deadline My.Biola.Edu>Students> MyHousing>Apply Online 15 Mark your calendars! MUST Complete Housing Application to Roommate Match and select Room/Apt!

11 Renew SHA- Special Housing MUST 2 Submit Application. Need to know what you want, if you have any roommates, etc. Learning Center will approve or decline your request. If approved, we will assign you to a room/apt. Confirmation will be sent after you are assigned.

13 3 Roommate Match

14 Roommate Match NOW (Mar. 3) until ROOM/APT is SELECTED A. Find your own roommate(s) to fill a room/apt. B. MATCH with them in MyHousing BEFORE you select a room/apt.

15 Need a Roommate? 1. Network: Tell friends, hall Facebook group, classmates, RA/RC, etc. 2. Roommate Search list in the Housing Office: Tell us on your housing application if you want to be on the list. 3. Place/Search for ads on Biola Classifieds. 4. If you don t have one don t worry! You can select a bed in Individual Bed Lottery: 31

16 Roommate Match MyHousing Login (right side) Can only Match with students who submit application. If going for Apt or Thompson, make sure ALL roommates are eligible. On My Future Roommate Requests, a red message You are eligible to selection roommates will appear AFTER you submit the application. Select Room Selection > Roommate Selection > Fall 2015 (not summer!)

17 Roommate Match Type in Name> Begin Search If they applied: System sends Roommate Request to person and notification. If they haven t applied: System won t find them. Works like a Facebook Friend Request so have a conversation first! ALL Roommate Requests MUST be Confirmed or Declined.

18 Roommate Match When a roommate request is accepted, you are MATCHED. Each group member must MATCH with ALL others in the roommate group! Goal: YOUR ROOMMATE GROUP IS FULLY MATCHED.

19 Readmit/Incoming Roommate Note: Requested roommates must be accepted by March 15. Incoming/Readmit Students do not get lottery selection times- only you do. A. You still 2 Submit Application. B. Submit Request an Incoming Student as Roommate by March 15. (on BiolaHousing.com) Housing Staff will MATCH you together.

20 Planning for Room Selection Group MUST FILL entire Room/Apartment*! (*except during Individual Bed) System will ONLY SHOW what will FIT your MATCHED group, so Double or 2pp Apt: Match with one roommate. Triple or 3pp Apt: Match with two roommates. Suite or 4pp Apt: Match with three roommates. You can reconfigure your roommate group UNTIL a room/apt is chosen.

22 Planning for Room Selection Have MULTIPLE plans with your roommates AHEAD OF TIME- don t wing it! What can you afford? Will Financial Aid decrease if you are not in Biola Housing? What do you WANT? What do you NEED? Building/Location Types of Rooms Bathroom types Amenities What do you absolutely NOT want? What is the plan if what you want is no longer available? If needed, could your roommate group split up?

23 Planning for Room Selection Two types of Biola Housing: Biola Residence Halls and Biola Apartments (20+yrs by 8/26) Floor Plans on BiolaHousing.com will show: Room/Apartment Types Location of Rooms/Apartments Rooms available for Continuing Students to select Designated Triples will be added to floor plans on March 17 (after Housing Application closes) so we know where you want them to be located.

27 Planning for Room Selection Biola Apartments ELIGIBILITY: Must be 20+ yrs old by August 26, (You can submit an Apartment Exception Request on BiolaHousing.com.) FURNISHED: Apartments are furnished with beds, dressers, desks, refrigerator, oven/stove, dining table and chairs, couch, coffee table, and loveseat or chair. BEACHCOMBER- Part of The Block, 1bd/2pp, 1bd/3pp, 2bd/4pp apts. LA MIRADA- The Block, 2bd/4pp apts. LI- The Bluff, 2bd/4pp apts. LIDO MIRADA- The Block, 1bd/2pp, 1bd/3pp, 2bd/4pp apts. TRADEWIND- The Block, 1bd/2pp, 1bd/3pp, 2bd/4pp apts. TROPICANA- The Block, 2bd/4pp apts. WELCH- The Bluff, 1bd/3pp apts.

28 Lottery Times Explained Like buying concert tickets. Lines people up. Lets one participant in to select room/apt every few minutes.

31 Lottery Selection Time MyHousing (right)> My Future Room Selection Process. Your selection time will be listed at Noon the day before each Lottery.

32 Select a Room/Apartment Person in your group with EARLIEST selection time should select for your group. At their time, they need to Login to MyHousing (right)> Room Selection> Select a Room/Suite. Then choose the lottery selection phase that is currently going on.

33 Select a Room/Apartment Search for Rooms/Apts by: Hall or Apartment Name OR Any to list all options.

34 Select a Room/Apartment Find the room you want. Check the room number & room type. *Be Careful: Permanent Triples vs. Designated Triples (smaller, cheaper) North Hall Large Double vs. Economy Doubles (smaller, cheaper) Floor Plan and list of who selected what rooms can be viewed on this page.

35 Select a Room/Apartment: ERROR MESSAGE: No available rooms were found that could accommodate you and your roommates AND/OR no available rooms match your search criteria. WHY? Too early- not yet your time to select. Rooms that fit your group are no longer available. Someone in group isn t eligible to live there. NEXT STEP? Stay Calm. Check your Lottery time. Try searching for any building to see all availability. Make sure your roommates are eligible for lottery. Try reorganizing your group- Decline roommate matches to get a different group size and search for rooms.

36 Select a Room/Apartment Group of 2 or 3: Click Select Room. Group of 4: Click Select Suite. NOT DONE YET- DON T LOG OUT!

37 Select a Room/Apartment Assign bed to each person in roommate group. Suites: Assign roommates to same room. AT THIS POINT YOU CAN GO BACK & MAKE CHANGES.

38 Select a Room/Apartment: ERROR MESSAGE: A bed or room became unavailable before your assignments were completed! You must return to List of Available Rooms screen and reselect a suite or room. WHY? You waited too long to get assign roommates to the room- someone else took it. NEXT STEP? Quickly search again for open rooms. Choose the room and assign roommates. Be sure to hit I Agree to save it!

39 FINALIZE Room/Apt FINAL STEP: Click I AGREE- SUBMIT ROOM SELECTION. ONCE YOU CLICK I AGREE- SUBMIT ROOM SELECTION, IT IS FINAL- THE CONTRACT IS IN EFFECT.

40 YOU ARE DONE!!!

41 Room/Apt CONFIRMATION 1. Confirmation Message Appears. 2. Confirmations sent to each member of group: Complete the survey to give us feedback- we use it! NO CHANGES can be made. Cancelling will cost 2 months rent!

42 Room/Apt CONFIRMATION 3. MyHousing will show your room and roommates.
