14 Knox County Data Sheet Tax Structure Excise Tax Personal Income Tax Sales Tax Franchise Tax Tax rate is 6.5% and is based on the net earnings of the company derived from doing business in Tennessee. Tennessee does not impose a personal income tax on wages. Tax is imposed only on individuals and other entities receiving interest from bonds and notes and dividends from stock at a rate of 6%. The sales tax rate on food is 5.25%. All other tangible personal property, unless specifically exempted, is 7%.
