Each sample will be taken using a 3 inch diameter coring device which will remove 0.5 cubic feet of sediment for a total amount of 8 cubic feet. The purpose of the project is to evaluate potential sources of contaminants in the sediment to determine the potential effects of the contaminants on the ecology of the Anacostia River which may be due to activities at the Potomac Electric Power Company facility at 3400 Benning Road, NE, Washington, D.C.
