5 LOCATION. Wresden Farm is situated in a lovely part of the Cotswolds, almost mid way between Cheltenham and Bristol. Surrounded by fields, Wresden Farm is both intensely rural but also accessible, being about 2 hours from London by road and within reach of the M5 motorway for commuting to Bristol or the Midlands as well as good schools both in the state and privates sectors, for all ages. Uley, the neighbouring village is very pretty, with many fine old buildings, church, primary school, community shop and pub. There is a Sainsbury s supermarket about 5 minutes away in Dursley and a large Waitrose, as well as two other supermarkets in Stroud, from where trains into London Paddington are scheduled from 95 minutes. A major part of the attraction of this location is the truly special countryside, a marvellous source of walks and hacks on a network of public footpaths, bridleways and country lanes. There is a selection of good places to eat out, (country pubs and restaurants), an award winning local Spa at Calcot Manor, a number of challenging golf courses and numerous equestrian events including the Badminton and Gatcombe Horse Trials. 6 DESCRIPTION: Wresden Farm is a fascinating property with many different attributes. It comprises a 17th century Grade II* listed house and a superb early 18th century barn, set in over 6 acres in which there are a series of attractive mill ponds as well as paddocks and mixed woodland - a naturalist's paradise. It is written that in the early 1600's John Eyles was the first in the parish to weave cloth imported from Spain. The 1687 plaque above the historic porch is said the represent the date of his marriage. The house has an elevated position and a southerly aspect with dramatic rural views. It is attached to a period cottage in separate ownership, which is offset from it. Records show the original mill as dating back to the 17th century - there is a date stone IEE 1687 on the two storey front porch of the house. Inside, the building has a real sense of history with many period features, including a magnificent Jacobean bed, believed to be part of the original structure and reputably, a concealed Priest's Hole. As such, the whole property represents the most exciting project, which would now reward investment, to make the most of all it offers. The house currently has two good reception rooms and a well proportioned kitchen, three bedrooms, a bathroom other ancillary accommodation as well as a selfcontained one bedroom flat. There are the remains of additional buildings associated with the mill workings (in varying states of repair), the wonderful old barn and various other sheds and outbuildings. There is a main paddock, a series of ponds, an old orchard and mixed woodland, flanking the drive.
