3 Potentates Message My dear Nobles, Ladies and Friends: A Night in Belgrade is now a night in history; and what a night it was! We had a really great attendance and I received many, many compliments on something new and different. The music was most enjoyable and it was great to see some of our Shriners and their ladies take the floor for a few of the dances. (I did ask the Serbian contingent about making all those who were there Honorary Serbians and it was a unanimous decision to let you all into our small group.) I cannot begin to express my humble thanks to my family for all their help in preparing the food: Chief Potentate s Aide (my nephew Bill Conner) for his hard work in cutting wood, hauling everything to the Shrine and roasting the lambs; my nieces Jamie Carlson, Jeanne Salveson, Julie Conner and Amy Fiegle for their hard work in the kitchen; and our first lady Joanne Freiman for her help in making the walnut roll (povitica). Added to that august group my two friends from church, Carol Griak who helped make the cabbage rolls (sarma) and Lori Ulvi who showed up early Saturday morning to take charge of frying two cases of chicken. Then later in the day Noble Christian Freeman came on the scene to take over the kitchen so I could circulate among the guests. Looking back, it was a tremendous amount of work, but so worthwhile since everyone seemed to enjoy the evening. There were many compliments and I m truly happy that the evening was such a success. Our next big night is our Hospital Dads Dinner on November 10. Call the office to make your reservations. Along with fun we enjoy as Shriners, we must not forget the world s greatest philanthropy, our Shriners Hospitals for Children. Please come and support this project with your attendance at the dinner. A week later, on November 17, we will have our Parade to Glory. The Chef s Unit will be back in action to provide a tasty (no charge) dinner on the evening when our members, clubs and units will show their support for our organization and our Twin Cities Hospital. The preferred order for contributions for this year is: 1) The new storage building we hope to build at the back end of our parking lot (plans are already underway); 2) The General Fund of Aad Shriners, and 3) Twin Cities Unit of Shriners Hospitals. Please be generous and help make this a very successful Parade to Glory! On October 11th, we enjoyed hosting our Honored Ladies for a luncheon at the Shrine. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and I believe that the ladies enjoyed themselves. It is a great way to show our appreciation for the many years that these ladies have supported the Shriners in their lives and Aad Shriners in general. Moving into December, we have our next stated meeting and election of officers for 2017 on December 6th. Mark this date on your calendar now! Anyone interested in running for the office of Oriental Guide is asked to call me, your current Potentate, at I would like to talk to you about what is expected of you as an elected Divan officer and also what you can expect to gain from being a part of the Divan. For me, it has been a most amazing experience! As I look back on these past five years, I am so proud of what we have accomplished and the bright outlook I have for Aad Shriners. You are an incredible group of men and I am happy to be numbered among you. Until next month, I remain In Constant Faith, Ronald Pete, Potentate 3

6 FROM THE CHIEF RABBAN All Senior s at Superior Senior High School must do a project involving learning to do something new to graduate. On the 24 th of September one of our kids put on a 5K walk run to raise money for Shriners Hospitals. In her speech and I quote My cousin and I have also been patients with the Shriner s since young ages due to leg issues and scoliosis. So I thought it was time to give back and decided to do this event to raise money and support a place that has supported my family, and so many other families through various issues. What a great sentiment, and what a noble pursuit. Her project to graduate was to plan, organize and execute a community fund raiser. Felicity Byrd did an excellent job of this. Her event was well organized and executed. Felicity used a beautiful venue with excellent facilities, plus she organized hot food and drinks for sale. All profits went to support Shriner s Hospitals. I wish more than only 5 Fezs would have showed up to support her selfless efforts. Several teams that had signed up to run did not show. The weather was cold and gusty with misty rain in Duluth when I drove though. This did not help attendance. Four of our patients attended and a fifth came down with the flu and could not make it. All of the patients made many laps around the track. It was great to see the happy, energetic kids laughing as they ran or walked. Felicity plans on attending Parade to Glory. I hope all of you will come and meet this wonderful young lady. See her energy and passion for our philanthropy as she presents AAD Shriners with the profits from her hard work. Nobles, join with me Nov. 17th to show her we care for our kids and witness her special thanks to us Officers Directory POTENTATE CHIEF RABBAN ASSISTANT RABBAN HIGH PRIEST & PROPHET ORIENTAL GUIDE TREASURER RECORDER FIRST CEREMONIAL MASTER SECOND CEREMONIAL MASTER DIRECTOR MARSHALL CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD OUTER GUARD CHIEF OF STAFF DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF HOSPITAL REPRESENTATIVE HOSPITAL REPRESENTATIVE CHAPLAIN ORATOR HOUSING DIRECTOR TEMPLE ATTORNEY INSURANCE CHAIRMAN DONOR RELATIONS CIRCUS COORDINATOR RANGE CIRCUS CHAIRMAN MEMBERSHIP PARLIMENTARIAN HOSPITAL BOARD CHIEF POTENTATE S AIDES RONALD PETE DONALD EWALD PAUL VIZANKO KEVIN BAKER JUSTIN STOKKE GARY BUBALO GORDON GRANMOE ED BUSHEY ROGER D. 7 Gree0ngs Nobles, On 17 September the Shrine Bowl was held in Bemidji. It was apended by several of our units and clubs and ladies and friends. Here is a picture of the AAD units geyng ready to parade. As this is a civic parade, guests and ladies also paraded leaving no one to take pictures during the parade. Hopefully I missed no units that were there. If I did I apologize now as it was not inten1onal. This is a good 1me so mark your calendars now to apend next September.
