With the opening of the new clubrooms we set about to really capitalise on our new facilities. We did that by having a full social calendar which also served to improve camaraderie. Sponsorship was also aggressively chased more intensely than in previous years. As a result we had a very successful year off the field. On the field we were unlucky to be beaten by Kingsley in the Preliminary final, so we will be looking to go one better here next year. Probably the best game of the year was our 1 st Semi Final win against Mosman Park, a real close encounter where the lead changed several times. A really good relationship and rivalry is being developed here. Our reserves won 8 games which is about the same amount that we have won in the reserves in the last five years! All in all it was a good year for us with lots to be proud of but if we put our minds to it we can do a lot better! Rod Western President Carlisle A.F.C. COOLBELLUP A.F.C. The Club fielded one side (E Grade) this season and the team enjoyed remarkable success, punctuated with a major disappointment for the final game of the season:- * Won every qualifying game of the season by an average winning margin of 24 goals, finishing with a percentage of 569% * Won the second semi-final by 5 goals * Led in the grand final at three quarter time and lost the game to a fighting Swan athletic by 3 points * George Ford won the League Fairest and Best with Chris Carley second. The result was reversed in the Club s voting * The club team kicked 40 goals for the game in the round 9 clash with Whitford, one goal for each year of age on the day George Ford turned 40. In the third quarter, we scored 16 goals and 7 points. Wayne Galbraith President Coolbellup AFC COOLBINIA WEST PERTH A.F.C. The 2003 season realised the merger of the previous Coolbinia-Yokine and Osborne Districts Amateur Football Clubs. The merger received overwhelming support from members of both previous clubs and the way the merger was handled was a credit to both clubs and their committees. As with any amalgamation it is always going to take time for people to get to know each other and become accustomed to each other s skills and attributes.

2 On the playing front, it turned out to be a real baptism of fire as we found ourselves competing in one of the strongest competitions in the WAAFL being that of C Grade which, for the first time in WAAFL history, included 12 teams. The strength of the competition was such that the likes of High Wycombe, Warnbro Swans, Kalamunda and Willetton ensured that wins were always going to be hard to come by, especially for the new kids on the block who had to prove that they could mix it with the best. As it turned out, the win/loss ratio was not one that we had foreseen at the start of the season but all was not as bleak as it appeared in black and white. There were seven (7) games where we were beaten by less than three (3) goals and in four (4) of those games we were beaten by one (1) point by the same team on two (2) occasions. With other close losses of three (3) points and four (4) points, had these have gone our way, we would have been in the mix at the business end of the season. Financially, we are very well placed to be able to improve our training and social facilities and have laid plans that we believe will enable Coolbinia West Perth to become one of the most respected Amateur Football Clubs in the WAAFL. Our belief is that if we can identify a couple of quality positional players leading up to the 2004 season, and we can hold on to the present player list, then we will be well positioned for success now, and into the future. Ian Fairlie President Coolbinia West Perth A.F.C. KALAMUNDA & DISTRICTS A.F.C. The 2003 Footy Season has been another rewarding year for the Kalamunda Cougars, both on the field and throughout the whole Club. For the third year we had all teams in the finals; the league progressing to the preliminary final, reserves to the second qualifying final and our young colts side to the grand final and just missing the big one. Congratulations to all 3 coaches and their dedicated support staff your contributions are much appreciated by the committee, players, members and sponsors. Off the field activities are an integral part of any club and this year with a rejuvenated Social Committee, all the functions commencing pre-season and through to the Windup/Trophy Presentation Night were very successful and much fun had by all. Thanks to the senior members who at the Windup Night gave the special presentations and history behind the club s perpetual trophy donors; history and a feeling of being part of a club are important in the success of a club. Congratulations to Kerryn and Darrin Armstrong Jones on receiving their Life Memberships; your exceptional contributions to the club were reflected by the standing ovation! In 2003 we continued the clubrooms refurbishment program and many thanks to all contributors. We now commence planning for the 2004 season, but until then have an enjoyable break, a Merry Christmas and see you all in Ray Veitch President Kalamunda & Districts A.F.C. MANNING RIPPERS A.F.C was a year of great improvement for the Rippers as their young but exciting league side progressed steadily up the D grade ladder from their starting position of E Grade wooden spooners. Led by hard working ruckman Bob Braam and youthful midfielders Paul Vardy, Karl Edlinger, and Luke Lovett Manning won 9 games in 2003 and only missed the finals on percentage after winning an exciting round 18 game against the eventual fifth placed Melville. Other standout performers were rugged centre half back Erwin Edlinger and veteran forward Paul Murphy. Season highlights included the club s big wins against Bayswater (Round 1) and Rossmoyne (Round 15) and a courageous come from behind win away against Ballajura. Off the field the club was again profitable and enjoyed several successful functions including the club quiz night and the two Ripper Romps at Rosie O Grady s in Northbridge promises to be a stellar year. Bryan Ullinger President Manning Rippers A.F.C. MELVILLE A.F.C. The Melville Football club was pleased to be playing at home again after spending the previous season away from the club due to a ground resurfacing. Many thanks to our supporters and sponsors for their efforts throughout the season. The Melville Football Club had a very encouraging year with two of our three teams playing finals. Congratulations to all of our reserves premiership players who trained and worked hard to make the grand final. The one point win was one of the best wins our club has seen. Your efforts will be remembered for a long time to come. Congratulations to Heath Kennington on winning the fairest and best for the reserves grade, and well done to Stefan Adasko on being runner up for the league. Bruce Heaton President Melville A.F.C. MOSMAN PARK A.F.C. The Mosman Park Football Club had a reasonably successful year both on and off the field. The success story of the year was the Colts Premiership in C Grade. This is even more remarkable considering they finished 5 th in the qualifying rounds. The League and Reserves both made the finals, however both were eliminated in

3 the first semi final. The club welcomed many new players in 2003 and is keen to recruit more next year. It was pleasing to see many local juniors join the club after having played away at other clubs. Highlights of the year in the social scene were the Cocktail night, 1973 Reunion and the Friends of Mosman Park day. All of which were great fundraisers and attracted many people to the club. The away games down at the Swan Hotel were also great nights and hopefully this will continue next year. The club would like to thank all its sponsors for their support during the year. These include Mosman Park Liquor Emporium, EBM Insurance, Mosman Glass, Swan Hotel, Abracadabra Brickpaving, Bellissimo Café and Healthways John Armistead, President Mosman Park A.F.C. MT LAWLEY A.F.C. Year 2003 was a year of ups and downs. Unfortunately I fell critically ill at the eleventh hour and subsequently this left a huge workload on the Committee. The professionalism that was carried out on all duties was tremendous. The motto of this story is always "Share The Load". On the playing side this year, the Club had an optimistic year. I say optimistic because we were hopeful that we could add another trophy to our cupboard. We had three of our four sides play off in the finals and only one made it to the Grand Final. Unfortunately a better side defeated us on the day! It was a very good effort and one that we must build on. All credit must go to the players and to our coaching staff. This year the Club, the first time since 1992, is completely debt free. Chris Chadd President Mt Lawley A.F.C. SWAN VIEW A.F.C. In our second season back in the WAAFL we were thrilled to be awarded the Club of the Year Award (with Warnbro) and go on to record back to back premierships in the D League against a gallant Kingsley. Aaron Morey won the D League Fairest and Best while Dave Simcock was Runner Up. This capped off a sensational year for the Club. A big thankyou to our Committee, Players and Supporters for the effort to push us to the ultimate goal. Our Reserves performed admirably to make the Preliminary Final, going down to eventual premiers Melville. We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their generosity and support for the season and we look forward to further success in Rod McPherson President Swan View A.F.C. UNIVERSITY A.F.C. On-field, season 2003 will be viewed as a mixed bag for the University Amateur Football Club. Three of six teams made the finals, but it was disappointing neither the A Colts, AB3rds or AB4ths could finish with a premiership after making the final five of their respective competitions. On an individual basis the brightest point of the season was the selection of Chris Weise, Damien Ottaviano and Marty Kennon in the W.A. state side. Marty Kennon went on to be named All-Australian. Congratulations also to Frank Nield who finished runnerup for the AB3rds Association Fairest & Best award. The social atmosphere at the club was as vibrant as ever and with a number of successful shows and innovative fundraising activities, the club strengthened it s financial position significantly during the 2003 year. The Skinny Maskiell day mid-year attracted almost 200 ex-players and supporters from both the University and Wembley clubs to a fantastic three course lunch boundary side as the senior sides clashed on-field. It bodes well for the future of the University Football club to have players from past years interacting with our current and future stars as the club looks forward to once again being a significant contributor to the league in Scott Paterson President University A.F.C. WARNBRO SWANS A.F.C. The club from way down south has finished off yet another successful year. This year found our seniors and ressies both promoted to C grade, our thirds promoted to E grade and our Colts up to B grade. While we didn t pick up another flag for our moderately crowded trophy wall, we did have our Seniors, Mr Magoos and Thirds all make it to the finals, with the rampaging ressies getting into the big one. We also found some club wide success with the winning of the WAAFL Champion club award (back to back on this one). This award reflects the many people that have a red hot go week in week out and try to make our club the best. One of our senior players, Harry Ford, also had a good year by picking up the WAAFL C grade B&F. You little beauty. So all in all, no flags, but we played a lot of footy, had a lot of social occasions and spread the swannie feeling in the local community. Cheers aye

4 Brett Watson President Warnbro Swans A.F.C. WEMBLEY A.F.C. It has been a year of change at the Wembley Amateur Football Club. The new committee has undertaken a youth policy to develop the younger players at our club, which we hope will pay dividends in the years to come. Our A Grade coach, Stuart Kemp, has done a fantastic job in teaching these players all aspects of league football. This was most evident in the latter part of the year where our boys convincingly beat a number of teams participating in the finals, and it looks promising for next year. Our Reserves and Colts teams look forward to building on this year s solid performances and to figure prominently in the finals in A possible by product of our youth policy was the emergence of our AB3 and AB4 teams with many ageing champions and keen social players filling the ranks and culminating in two premierships. These grand final victories gave the whole club reason to celebrate and reflect on a successful season promises to be an exciting year and we look forward to the challenge. Next year we also celebrate the 20 th anniversary of our last A Grade Premiership in 1984 and would like to invite any players from that era to join us at a function to be advised in the near future or feel free to contact the club. Good Luck to everyone next year. WHITFORD A.F.C. This year The Whitford Football Club enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in its 28 years of participation in WA Amateur Football. The League side earned the right of Promotion to A Grade with a Premiership win in the B Grade Grand Final. 5 of our 6 sides participated in finals football, which is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved with the Whitford Warriors Football Club. Our club boasts a large number of volunteer support to enable our 6 sides to run smoothly each week, and if not for that support we would not be celebrating a successful Enjoying the benefit of large player numbers this year, and with the potential to field 7 sides next season, The Whitford Football Club has worked hard off field to be a respected competitor in the WAAFL. Over the last couple of years, Our club has addressed many issues in relation to our behaviour towards Umpires, Opposition Clubs and the Officials involved in our Sport, as well as reinforcing our own pride within our own club. We believe this effort has been rewarded with on field success in 2003, and thank all of our Coaching, Playing and Support Members for their efforts to date. We have a huge 2004 ahead of us as we begin the tough task of earning the respect of the A Grade competition. Warren Nel President Whitford A.F.C. Terry Goddard President Wembley A.F.C. WEST COAST COWAN A.F.C. The Committee and Sponsors of West Coast Cowan A.F.C. would like to congratulate their Premiership winning B Colts side from season The club would also like to thank the generous contribution from Graham Johnson and his company Studwise the valued major sponsor of the West Coast Cowan Colts for the past two seasons. The club is looking forward to a big season in 2004 from it s Senior, Reserve and Colts grades and another great season off field as well. New members and players are welcome.
