4 photo: Åke E:son Lindman photo: Åke E:son Lindman Pionen White mountain Renstiernas gata Stockholm The project takes place in a former antiatomic shelter An amazing location 30m down under the granite rocks of the Vita Berg Park in Stockholm The client is an internet provider and the rock shelter hosts server halls and offices The starting point of the project was to consider the rock as a living organism The humans try to acclimate themselves to this foreign world and bring the best elements from earth: light, plants, water and technology We created strong contrasts between rooms where the rock dominates and where the human being is a stranger against rooms where the human being took over totally The choice of lightning has been very challenging We tried to bring as much variation as possible Otherwise it is very easy to loose the feeling of time in an enclosed space Our references come straight from science fiction films, mostly Silent Running and a bunch of Bond films with Ken Adams set design photo: Åke E:son Lindman Project is not public! 5 photo: Andrea Martiradonna photo: Andrea Martiradonna The Cube Stockholm Jakobs torg Stockholm The European tour of THE CUBE continues The traveling restaurant was opened in London June 2012, on top of the Royal Festival Hall at Southbank Centre, where it remains until September About two weeks later on June 18 a twin structure will sit on the Royal Opera House in Stockholm, until October 21 THE CUBE is a nomadic, stateless and cosmopolitan piece of architecture, a pavilion designed to host a small, temporary restaurant Originating from Electrolux's concept of an itinerant restaurant, THE CUBE has been conceived and organized by the Belgian event agency Absolute Blue; the design of the pavilion, as well as the interior design, was developed by the Italian firm Park Associati, Milano Designed to visit unexpected and dramatic locations throughout Europe, THE CUBE was launched in Brussels in april 2011, where it remained until July on the arc of the Parc du Cinquantenaire In December 2011 the restaurant was opened in the heart of Milano sitting on a roof in Piazza photo: Andrea Martiradonna Project is not public! 6 photo: Auriza Salim Akbar Västra Årstabron ÅRSTA HOLMAR Stockholm Stockholms Arsta Bridge marks an historic moment in the expansion and modernisation of s rail network, the elegant bridge sweeps across the lush Arstaviken bay, its rhythmic contours interacting with the existing 1929 bridge The organic wave form is a sensitive response to the surrounding landscape and the vibrant red pigment of the concrete resonates with the Falu-red timber used in Stockholms traditional buildings At 833m long, the bridge will supplement the existing bridge, dramatically increasing capacity with minimal impact on the surrounding landscape Following an international competition in 1994, Foster and Partners, together with Ove Arup, were selected to design the new Arsta Bridge, which would incorporate two new train tracks, a pedestrian and cycle way, and a maintenance access road On plan, the bridge incorporates a curve, and the rounded soffit responds to the sequence of bending forces as the bridge deck sweeps over the ten pier supports, which are elliptical photo: Auriza Salim Akbar 2005 Structural engineer Client Foster & Partners Arup Swedish National Rail Administration (Banverket) Aurizasalim 6

7 photo: White Arkitekter Tele2 Arena Arenaslingan Stockholm Tele2 Arena is an important piece of the jigsaw in the image of Stockholm as a world class city White is developing solutions for major experiences When the new multi-function arena in the Globe district is completed in 2013 A retractable roof makes it possible to hold sporting, concert and other events all year round For concerts, the arena can accommodate audiences of up to 40,000 Excellent views and closeness to the event provide an outstanding experience The project is a challenge to all of White's areas of expertise: s, landscape architects, urban design, environment, social sustainability, art and visualisation All of this expertise is coordinated by project managers at work meetings and internal workshops which use the White Innovation Process as a framework White s 7

8 Globe Arena Globentorget Stockholm The Ericsson Globe is the national indoor arena of, located in the Johanneshov district of Stockholm The Ericsson Globe is currently the largest hemispherical building in the world and took two and a half years to build Shaped like a large white ball, it has a diameter of 110 metres and an inner height of 85 metres In February 2010 a funicular railway known as Skyview opened on the outside of the arena which takes visitors to the top for a virtually unobstructed view over Stockholm There is no known such arrangement elsewhere in the world Each of the two gondolas accommodates 16 passengers who will be 130 meters high when at the top Main designer, Svante Berg Lars Vretblad 8

9 K:fem Årevägen Stockholm Fifty years after the opening of Vällingby, 's world famous New Town from 1954, works began with its resurrection After the glorious days when children and their mothers filled the community in the outskirts of Stockholm with life, other developments gradually drained the neighbourhood unit Less people made life difficult for the little cinema, as well as for the shops Vällingby was in need of new blood, and the pièce de résistance of the renewal would be a new department store Red as a lacquer box, the construction stands as a precious object by the new entrance of the centre With layers on layers, a sense of depth is transmitted in the façade The milky glass gets increasingly see-through as the white dots vanish towards top and exposes the red skin behind photo: Wingardh Arkitektkontor 2008 Wingårdh Arkitektkontor 9

10 Karolinska Institutet Aula Medica Solnavägen Stockholm Wingårdh has designed the building, the form and geometry of which contrasts with the traditional low-rise brick buildings on the campus It is situated along Solnavägen opposite the new university hospital With its central location and geometric form, the lecture hall complex opens up the campus area to the main public thoroughfare The abstract building cladded in six different types of glass stands like a bowl at the core of medical university Karolinska Institutet in Wingårdh Arkitektkontor 10

11 Solna centrum metro station Solna Torg Stockholm Solna centrum is a metro station and shopping mall in Solna Municipality, approximately 5 km from central Stockholm, It is close to the Råsunda Stadium and opened on 31 August Main designer, Artist Artist Karl-Olov Björk Anders Åberg 11

13 Ericsson Kista Isafjordsgatan Stockholm Ericsson Kista is an office building for the telecommunications company Ericsson located in Kista, Stockholm The building was completed in June 2010 and is designed by Wingårdh arkitektkontor with Vasakronan as contractor Ericsson Kista is an eight-storey building with a distinctive cubic design The facade is a curtain wall construction with a fully glazed, smooth exterior The façade "crack" is giving the impression that the house is torn apart The "crack" consists of colored glass in different orange colors 2010 Wingårdh Arkitektkontor 13

15 T-Centralen Metro Station Vasagatan Stockholm T-Centralen is a metro station that forms the heart of the Stockholm metro system, in the sense that it is the only station where all three of the system's lines meet That, its central location, and its connections with other modes of transport make it the most used metro station in Stockholm The station is located in the Norrmalm borough of Stockholm, between Sergels torg (Sergel's Square) and the street of Vasagatan Main designer, Artist Artist Artist Vera Nilsson Per Olov Ultvedt Siri Derkert 15

16 Kungstradgarden Metro Station Kungsträdgårdsgatan Stockholm Kungsträdgården is a station of the Stockholm metro, located in the district of Norrmalm It is the end station of line 10 and line 11 and was opened on 30 October 1977, as the 91st station The platform is located approximately 34 meters underground The station features relics rescued from the many buildings pulled down during the redevelopment of central Stockholm during the 1950s and 1960s throughout the station Artist Ulrik Samuelson 16
