11 THE PURCHASE PROCESS The process to purchase property in Belize may be quite familiar to you, as it is based on British Law. The system very much resembles the one in the United States, and all closings are handled by a reputable lawyer acting as the escrow agent. All properties are delivered freehold, and you are able to obtain title insurance if you so wish. Your purchase starts off with selecting which lot you would like from the site plan, as well as which floor plan you prefer. The payments are then tied to different stages of completion as detailed in the purchase agreement. Belize is a country located on the north eastern coast of Central America. It has a diverse society, comprising many cultures and languages. Belize is bordered to the north by Mexico, south and west by Guatemala, and to the east by the Caribbean Sea. Even though it may seem like a different world, Belize is only about 90 minutes away from Miami!
