12 CHANDLER OVERVIEW WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW DRONE VIDEO The city of Chandler is located in the southeast portion of the Phoenix-Mesa- Glendale metro area. The local population in the city totals more than 245,000 residents, and is expanding at a pace of nearly 2 percent annually, faster than the state average as a whole. The city is the fourth largest in Arizona by population, trailing only Phoenix, Tucson and neighboring Mesa. Of the top-5 cities in Arizona, Chandler is by far the fastest-growing city in the group. Businesses, particularly those in the hightech segments of the economy, looking to establish a presence in Arizona due to the state s pro-business climate and affordable cost of living consistently target Chandler to attract the talent they need to run their enterprises. The most prominent technology company in the area is Intel. The chip giant is the largest employer in Chandler, with approximately 11,900 workers in the area. 12
13 CHANDLER IS HOME TO SOME OF ARIZONA S LARGEST, HIGHEST-PROFILE COMPANIES. CHANDLER OVERVIEW MORE THAN 245,000 RESIDENTS In addition, the ASU Research Park is located along the Price Road Corridor, which is the epicenter of the growing Chandler tech employment base. This project, which is operated by the university, has businesses including Avnet and Digital Realty Trust among its tenants, and in recent quarters Amkor, Go Daddy and ViaSat have committed to significant blocks of space in the Park. These businesses will bring hundreds of high-tech/high-wage jobs to the area. Other established technology companies operating in Chandler include ebay/ PayPal (2,000 employees), Microchip Technology (1,500), Orbital Sciences (1,400), Avnet (750) and Mitel (450). TOP 5 CITIES IN ARIZONA In addition to a deep collection of technology companies, the city of Chandler has a diversified group of large local employers, with many financial services businesses forming significant presences in the area. Both Bank of America and Wells Fargo have campuses in the city that employ thousands of workers (with the Wells Fargo campus expanding in the second half of 2015). Nationstar Mortgage recently moved into Chandler and the company will likely add between 1,000 and 1,200 workers. 13

15 GREATER PHOENIX OVERVIEW GREATER PHOENIX OVERVIEW 5TH MOST POPULOUS CITY IN THE COUNTRY 4.5 M I L L I O N RESIDENTS The Greater Phoenix metro area consists of Maricopa County and Pinal County, which together include nearly 4.5 million residents. Greater Phoenix is the 12th largest Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in the United States. The City of Phoenix is the fifth most populous city in the country and the largest city in the metro area. Major cities in the Phoenix MSA include: Phoenix (population 1.5 million), Mesa (population 455,000), Chandler (population 249,000), Gilbert (population 235,000), Glendale (population 232,000), Scottsdale (population 225,000), and Tempe (population 169,000). The Phoenix MSA is a classic growth market, an area that experiences rapid growth during expansions and more severe slowdowns during recessions. As the national economy has transitioned into growth mode, the Phoenix economy has been on an upward trajectory. This population growth is supporting the Phoenix labor market outlook as well, with populationserving sectors of the economy, including retail, healthcare and leisure and hospitality expanding at healthy rate of growth. Employers in the Phoenix MSA have added approximately 50,000 jobs per year since 2013, with annual growth averaging percent, nearly double the national rate of expansion. In addition, the Phoenix area is benefitting from growth in white-collar sectors of the economy, with professional and business services and financial employers expanding. 15
