The Haworth Advisory Board is an exclusive conference first launched in Shanghai in 2010; this year marks the first time we have brought the event to India and we are excited that you are able to join us! The aim of the Haworth Advisory Board is to debate, problem share and inform, with the intent of pushing boundaries of growth technology and sustainability within this dynamic region. This year s theme, Drivers of Change: People, Places and Technology, will explore global shifts in workforce demographics, the future of learning environments, and the growing importance of human-centered design. We have an exciting line-up of keynote speakers who will offer new perspectives on this theme and inspire lively discussion. In addition to a world-class speaker program, we have planned several opportunities for you to network, relax and enjoy the beautiful environs of the Taj West End Hotel. Every detail, from the cuisine to the service or décor is exquisite. Masala Klub serves stylishly crafted Indian fare with a refreshingly light twist on traditional recipes from North and South India. Trolleys carry home-style phulkas (oil-free puffed breads) made of freshly ground atta (a whole wheat flour made from hard wheat). In the restaurant s Masala Studio, guests can interact with the chef and watch as their meals are being prepared. In the Masala Grill, guests can do their own grilling on stone grill tables overseen by the Chef. Mynt For upbeat atmosphere around the clock, there is no more distinctive choice than Mynt. Authentic Indian, Italian, Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine is served from large interactive counters and kitchens for an open, engaging experience. Natural sunlight from skylights and tall bay windows created a lovely ambience inside and guests can also head to the garden for an alfresco dining experience. Surrounded by water and set amidst the sprawling grounds of the Taj West End. It overlooks and is adjacent to the Blue Ginger restaurant. The architecture and the look of Blue Bar Bangalore is predominantly South Asian with solid teak flooring and tiled roofing with contemporary interiors. The music is a blend of Lounge, House and Retro, playing in the background, making the Blue Bar Bangalore- a place to unwind and soak in the environment. Cisco s Smart+Connected Communities (S+CC) is a global initiative that uses the network as the platform to transform physical communities into connected communities that are run on networked information to enable economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Join us as we discuss Cisco s approach that is aimed at changing how communities are designed, built, managed, and renewed. 12:15 12:45 No Longer Green by Sophia Mendelsohn LEED-accredited Sustainability Head for Haworth This event is to discuss how consumers pushed sustainability into a concept companies could not afford to ignore. We will look at how the definition of sustainability has changed to become the popular corporate term it is today. Sophia will review how the concept went from being considered anti-business to core to corporate affairs (and what chemistry has to do with that). Predicting new trends, Sophia will discuss how the new priorities under the Linda Porter Bishop Restorative Environments, Consultant to Haworth AP Linda s work incorporates the study of psychology and argues for the recognition of the patient as a whole person; not just the biological or diseased part, but also the unique sense of self, present in all. She has studied Restorative Environments and has developed a new set of the Five Senses she believes must be present in the built environment for patients to return to whole. Linda will share her thoughts on healthcare design and Restorative Environments and will introduce her new Five Senses. 14:45 15:45 The Future of Lighting Technology & Workspace Design by 15:45 16:15 Afternoon Tea Laura Ashton Vice President and Head of Marketing, Philips Lighting Laura will be happy to share with you her view on what employers and designers should consider when managing the change from a traditional office to the new modern open spaces and on how LED lighting can help lead the way of office transformation into a more meaningful yet resource-effective environment. 16:15 17:30 New Ways of Learning by Andrew Harrison Director, Spaces That Work Ltd This session will explore trends across all major campus space types with an emphasis on the increasing importance on social and informal learning space with international examples of good practice. Learning spaces within this model can be categorised as specialist, general or informal. 7 SPEAKERs PROfILE Sophia Mendelsohn LEED-accredited Sustainability Head for Haworth She is a designer and manufacturer in the corporate real estate industry. She is responsible for increasing Haworth s sustainable product offerings in developing markets, including Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. She focuses on client engagement and education about the green built environment, as well as the purchasing and use of responsible building and office materials. Fluent in Chinese, Sophia is an expert in delivering sustainable office products into developing markets. At Haworth she is responsible for helping her own company design products that fit China s new green built-environment standards. In addition, she supports clients with their LEED applications and goals for their own offices. Previously Sophia has worked for the Jane Goodall Institute, and international NGO, helping spread education about the environment to local and international schools in China. She managed a program called Eco Office, which helped partner corporations with local students in order to reduce the footprint of both offices and schools. Sophia sits on the board of GIGA, a Shanghai based NGO whose mission is to promote green building materials and transparency in the construction and design industry. Linda Porter Bishop Restorative Environments, Consultant to Haworth AP A lifelong interest in health and wellness, coupled with a family member s cancer diagnosis, prompted Linda to focus on healthcare design when she received her BFA in Interior Design over twenty years ago. Her project work included several one million-plus square foot projects for pediatric hospitals, research centers and outpatient clinics as well as small jewel box spaces for multiple sclerosis patients and specialty clinics for women. Curious about the connections of human behavior, culture, design and wellness, she began further research as part of her Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. Design Association (IIDA) and in Business Week/Architectural Record`s annual international design competition. Most recently, she has been commissioned by leading healthcare product manufacturers to design furniture and flooring solutions now available on the international market. Nilesh Patel Cisco Systems, Global Business Development, Smart+ Connected Communities Nilesh Patel is part of a team that manages Strategy and Business development activities globally for Cisco s Smart+ Connected Communities (S+CC) Initiative. S+CC initiative uses the network as the platform to transform physical communities into connected communities that are run on networked information to enable economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Prior to this role he led Cisco s Asia Pacific Data Center Services team that was responsible for all aspects of service development, enablement and delivery for the Asia Pacific region. Since joining Cisco in 1996, Nilesh has held a variety of positions in both the product and services businesses, including eight years in product Engineering teams, two years in Services operations and Channels team and two years in Services Corporate Development team that managed disruptive investments, and acquisitions in to Cisco s Services division. He moved to Bangalore from Cisco s s US Headquarters in Nilesh holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an MS degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Syracuse University, New York, and a Bachelor s degree in Electronics Engineering (with honors) from the University of Bombay. Whether as a senior interior designer leading multi-year projects or as the director of interiors in large U.S. architectural firms, her projects have been recognized as national and international award winners by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the International Interior 12 13

8 SPEAKERs PROfILE Andrew Harrison Director, Spaces That Work Ltd Andrew established Spaces That Work Ltd, an independent consultancy specialising in learning environments, in early Prior to this he was Director of Learning and Research at DEGW. While at DEGW Andrew led a number of major international research projects including the European Commission supported research project Sustainable Accommodation for the New Economy, published in 2003 as The Distributed Workplace, and Project Faraday in 2007 which developed new space and experience models for the teaching of secondary school science in Britain. He has also led many learning-related research and consulting projects, exploring the impacts of technology and pedagogy change on school and higher education institution design including a major 30-month study investigating the impact of personalized learning on school design which was published in June Laura Ashton Vice President and Head of Marketing, Philips Lighting Laura Ashton is Vice President and Head of Marketing for Philips Lighting, Growth Geographies. Laura is responsible for the development and execution of marketing excellence and programs across the Philips Lighting business to help sustain and strengthen the sector s leadership in the Asia Pacific and Latin American markets. Prior to joining Philips, Laura was with Swedish appliance manufacturer Electrolux as head of the marketing team for Asia Pacific and, concurrently, business head of Electrolux India, where both consumer and commercial project/tender marketing were key success drivers during her five years tenure there. Laura is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Canada. A career marketer, Laura began in FMCG marketing in Canada with Johnson & Johnson and Kraft Foods. She spent seven years in Bangkok where she focused on the advertising and consulting side of marketing and ran her own company for over three years covering the Asia Pacific region. Laura joined Royal Dutch Shell in 1997 and was with the company for close to a decade in a range of Global and Asia Pacific B2B and B2C marketing and business development roles. Laura is very active in the marketing and advertising industry in Asia Pacific where she is known to be a vocal proponent of marketing effectiveness, as a contributor to regional industry publications and co-founder and judge at well-known Asia Pacific marketing and advertising competitions. Gerard Taylor Founder, Design and Creative Director of Orangebox Gerard Taylor studied product design at the Glasgow School of Art and industrial design at the Royal College of Art, London, where he received a Masters. Following graduation, Taylor was hired by the influential and preeminent Italian designer, Ettore Sottsass, and joined his design studio in Milan. Where he worked with many renowned brands including Knoll, Artemide, Fiorucci, Esprit and Philips. Taylor was also invited to participate with Memphis a collective of international designers, who not only established Italy s reputation as a centre of design excellence, but also went on to dominate the international design scene during the 1980s. Many of Taylor s pieces from this time have become coveted and are held in numerous museum collections. After Weil s departure in 1991, Gerard Taylor continued to run his own award-winning, creative consultancy, designing more than ten retail stores for Habitat (including their flagship stores in Croydon, Glasgow and Hamburg), and undertaking extensive interior design projects for Selfridges Department Stores in London and Manchester and City Inn hotels. In addition to his retail and residential work, Gerard Taylor has also specialised in contemporary workspace design and over a twenty five year period has undertook major office furniture projects for Knoll, Steelcase, Bernhardt, Sony and the Skandinavisk group. For the last decade together with maintaining his own design studio Taylor has concentrate on his role as creative director at Orangbox, the UK s most progressive, innovative and successful office Furniture Company. His vision and strategic direction has contributed to Orangebox growing to a 35 + million company. Taylor researches and writes extensively on the contemporary workplace and is a speaker on the changing workplace and has given Keynote presentations at conferences and seminars throughout Asia, Australia and Europe
