1 Spring 2012 President s Message Dr K H Lee Dear Fellows &, It is my greatest honour to serve as President for another year and I wish to pay tribute to last year s Council and Committee for their contribution in the affairs and business of the College and for their support given to me rendering my term as smooth as it could be. It is my pleasure to welcome Dr Ho Kam Yuen, Dr Lee Chun Kei and Dr Wong Yiu Kai who have newly joined the Council. I also wish to thank Dr Anthony S K Tse for his contribution to the College but have to leave the Council after serving continuously for 12 years. It is certainly my pride and delight to see Dr Homer Tso, of the Dental Council of Hong Kong, being awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS) at the 2011 Honours and Awards Ceremony of the HKSAR. Dr Tso is our College Member and Co-ordinator for the training of MGD. At the College Conferment on 20 November 2011, 6 specialty were conferred with FCDSHK, 12 Higher Trainees were conferred with college hip and 22 dentists were conferred with MGD. At the HKAM Conferment on 16 December 2011, 6 College Fellows were conferred with FHKAM. I would like to congratulate all of them on their accomplishment. Conjoint Intermediate Examinations and Exit Examinations were continued to be held in various specialties at the end of last year

2 Thanks to the effort of the Committee in General Dentistry, progress has been made in the collaboration with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, to conduct training and examination for our MGD holders. An MOU to be signed with RACDS is being negotiated actively. Colleagues should look out for our announcement of the conjoint examination in the near future. It is our aim to provide strong support to our Fellows and. To fulfil this, I need to hear from you. Please feel free to contact me or any Council Member should you have any ideas or comments. 13 Scientific Meeting 2011 Winter Scientific Meeting The Scientific Meetings Committee is pleased to report that the Winter Scientific Meeting was successfully held on 20 th November 2011 at the HKAM Building. Two renowned academicians, Professor Kishor Gulabivala and Dr Paula Ng, of the Department of Endodontology, UCL Eastman Dental Institute UK, presented their research and clinical expertise on several topics on endodontics. The event was very well-attended with over 160 participants and was supported by a number of dental companies. The expert help of CDSHK colleagues, Ms Lilian Cheung, Ms Rose Chow, Ms Julia Lau and Ms Sharon Tam were gratefully acknowledged. Feed backs from conference participants were extremely positive. Souvenir presentation to Dr Paula Ng and Professor Kishor Gulabivala 2012 Spring Scientific Meeting In response to the changing needs of continuing education and professional development, the theme of the upcoming Spring Scientific Meeting on 20 th May 2012 is Quality Assurance The tentative expert speakers are Dr Brent Weller from the UK and Dr Philip H W Poon, Senior Dental Officer, Pamela Youde School Dental Clinic, Department of Health and one local Medical expert. Please mark your diary and do not miss out this first of a kind event for the dental profession. We look forward to meeting you then.
