1 Richard Dallam, AIA, LEED Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium United States Navy Naval Hospital Bremerton Richard Dallam, with degrees in architecture and philosophy, sees architecture as applied philosophy, developing buildings that have strong connections to culture and experience. A partner at NBBJ, he approaches architecture in a way that leverages social and cultural belief systems to weave everyday life into people s experiences. An innovative designer with great versatility, architecture allows him to integrate his broad interests in and knowledge of art and science in a field that is both applied and theoretical. His range of experience includes civic, education, mixed-use commercial, healthcare, urban design and campus planning. Richard s design approach is highly collaborative. He believes that architecture emerges from, and is created for and with, the people, culture and values of a particular place and time. He is extremely well regarded for his skills, his ability to listen to his clients and his success in engaging a wide range of people in the design process. Each project begins by discovering his client s hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Knowing what inspires each of his client groups, Richard is better able to understand and balance the many priorities and objectives that define each project. Before designing, Richard always asks, How do you want to live your life? Buildings last for centuries, so he believes in taking a value-based approach to architecture; to create enriching experiences for our communities, rather than populating them with commodities. Richard has been actively involved in the Seattle arts community for over 18 years; being the former chairman of the public art committee of the Seattle Arts Commission. He serves on the Board of Trustees for both educational and healthcare institutions. 4 Steve McConnell, AIA United States Federal Courthouse I truly believe the Seattle Courthouse will be one of the finest buildings in our Program. Ed Feiner Chief Architect General Services Administration This project demonstrates the effectiveness of the United States General Service Administration s program to advance the quality of civic design.
