1 KRISTI HOUSE, INC Annual Report Excellence achieved, recognized & rewarded Message from the Director T his year could be called the Year of Excellence for Kristi House. Kristi House received the coveted Sapphire Award from The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, the philanthropic arm of Blue Cross Blue Shield in December The award included both a beautiful sculpture and a significant monetary prize, but even more meaningful was the seal of excellence that this award conveyed. Kristi House was one of only three community health organizations in the entire state of Florida to receive this honor. Kristi House is now recognized as an expert in the field of child sexual abuse. To want to do good is a noble cause, and passion and vision will sustain us through struggles. But to actually be recognized for results, to be awarded for excellence and to have sustainability are achievements that both clients and financial supporters look to as marks of distinction and merit. This past year the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce also recognized Kristi House for excellence among nonprofits in our own community. In March 2007, Kristi House received the NOVO award from the GMCC for organizational innovation, specifically, for the Kristi House Children s Advocacy Center s multidisciplinary team. This achievement, which also carried a monetary award, was a significant seal of approval from the Miami business community for the model that has shaped our operation and response to child victims and families. Similiarly, Miami Today and Conrad Hotel awarded Kristi House their Reflections in Excellence award for non-profits. Trudy Novicki, Execcutive Director It has taken 10 years of persistence led by the Kristi House board and staff to achieve a best-practice, holistic approach to attacking the problem of child sexual abuse in Miami. Child sexual abuse is too complex to hope to solve through the efforts of any one organization. Our recent awards are affirmation that this community approach to waging war on sexual abuse is effective. Without our community partners the prosecutors, the medical personnel, child welfare workers, guardians and mental health practitioners we cannot hope to achieve results. With them, success is possible. The Kristi House community is made up of not only our team members, but also our financial supporters. Without the funds to carry out our programs, we cannot succeed. If you have not already done so, please join that community dedicated to ending the epidemic of child sexual abuse. If you are already a part of us, be assured that we are making strides. Please review our program highlights and financial summary for the outstanding year we had. We welcome your input and ongoing support so that we may continue to make inroads to achieving our vision of eradicating child sexual abuse in our community. ORLOWITZ-LEE CHILDREN S ADVOCACY CENTER
2 Highlights Satellite Offices. Kristi House opened its first satellite location in South Miami-Dade at 152nd Street and US-1 to better serve families for weekly therapy appointments in locations closer to their neighborhoods. All plans were laid and funding secured for the second satellite to be opened in north Miami-Dade in the second half of Breaking the Silence, Kristi House s awareness and support-building campaign following a best practice model, was launched with overwhelming support from many in our community making a five-year pledge to Kristi House. A Founder s Club of 22 inaugural members was established. The Children s Advocacy Center s Multi- Disciplinary Team partners including the police, prosecutors, medical personnel, child welfare workers, guardians and mental health practitioners developed a strategic plan for the first time to guide growth, training and service coordination goals. The Touch a Heart Dinner committee exceeded $300,000 in net profits from the November 2006 signature event with continued, generous support from a corps of volunteers, sponsors and attendees. Medical Examinations. A pilot program moving non-acute forensic medical exams to the child-friendly medical suite at Kristi House was successfully launched with cooperation of community partners and funding support from Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation and Vista HealthPlans. Kristi House continued its commitment to professional development hosting a twoday intensive training for its own therapists and mental health clinicians in Miami-Dade lead by a national expert in Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
