ELECTION OF THE GRAND HIGH PRIEST The Deputy Grand High Priest addressed Annual Assembly M Ill Grand High Priest, Knight Priests all. It is my pleasure, once again, to propose a Grand High Priest to lead us forward for the forthcoming year. Our present Grand High Priest has led this Order from the front, never flinching from making important decisions, but still maintaining a style of leadership which is one of approachability and genuine warmth to all of our members. In due course in his Address, he will inform us just how busy Grand College has been over the past 12 months. At the forefront of all those meetings has been our Grand High Priest. He will probably be too modest to mention it, but he was genuinely touched to have a Tabernacle named after him, which was consecrated in his home town of Chipping Sodbury, which will be a lasting testament of his service to the Order. In the Book of Hebrews Chapter 13, Verse 7, we read: Remember those who led you, who spoke the Word of God to you, and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Our Grand High Priest is without doubt a leader whom we should imitate, who commands respect, and we all should be grateful to have him as the Head of this wonderful Christian Order once again. It therefore gives me great personal pleasure to propose that Most Illustrious Knight Priest Christopher Gavin Maiden be elected as Grand High Priest for the forthcoming

6 year. The proposition, which was seconded by R Em Kt Pt David Pratt, was passed with acclamation. The Proclamation of M Ill Kt Pt Christopher Gavin Maiden as Grand High Priest is as follows. REPORT OF THE GRAND RECORDER The Grand Recorder reported that his printed report has been made available to all Kt Pts at this Assembly in the Agenda booklet and had nothing further to add to it. It is here reprinted. In January this year, I attended the Annual Ingathering of the Grand College of America and it is with great pleasure that we welcome to Hinckley, M Em Lloyd Hebert, Grand Preceptor and M Em William Koon II, Past Grand Preceptor of the Grand College of America. During the year we have consecrated six Tabernacles - three in the United Kingdom and three in Greece where we also erected a District. We also welcome Knight Priests in France where we re-warranted three Tabernacles and erected a District. In addition to these two Grand Superintendents, we have installed four others and a second Grand Inspector. The Deputy Grand High Priest travelled to Australia and South Africa to carry out the installation of three Grand Superintendents and the Grand Inspector. Nine Tabernacles celebrated either their diamond or Silver Jubilee and we again congratulate them on their milestones. As for the future, James West of Stow and Tony Lynch have decided to retire and the installations of their successors are scheduled for August and September respectively. Jose Mendoza has also decided to retire and the installation of his successor together with a new Tabernacle will take place in October. The Pillar Fund has now been going for three years and as you will see from the financial statement that it has now grown to over 138k at the year end and is now over 150k. Whilst this is a tremendous effort, support is still very patchy. We have, however, set up a sub-committee which is to look at property and investigate the possible costs of a mortgage. The Order of Holy Wisdom continues to be worked up and down the country and overseas Districts are overcoming the logistical problems of distance mainly by making the ceremony Tabernacle specific. Both the secretariat and the DC team are

12 willing to give any advice or guidance to Districts where the ceremony has not yet been worked. The Website and our Facebook page continue to be used as a means of communication with news items appearing on both. We note that a few Districts are also making use of these media and would only caution all administrators to be vigilant for any inappropriate postings or hacking. This is our third visit to the Hinckley Island Hotel. Both we and the management are aware that there have been shortcomings in various areas on our first two visits but we have been working together to make the weekend a better experience not only for our members, but also for members of the general public who are also staying here. As has become traditional, the Grand High Priest s team have been here since Thursday meeting visitors from overseas and early arrivals. Our overseas Tabernacles are as full of enthusiasm for our beautiful Order as we UK-based members are and this is borne out by the numbers who attend Annual Assembly and we thank all visitors from near and far for their attendance. GRAND INSPECTOR & GRAND SUPERINTENDENTS The Grand High Priest stated that as our Order grows year on year we become more and more reliant on our Grand Inspector and Grand Superintendents to administer the Tabernacles within their Districts and he thanked them all for discharging their duties in an exemplary manner. He re-appointed the Grand Inspector for South Africa and all Grand Superintendents to serve for a further year. He further empowered them to confer the awards of Pillar of Holy Wisdom on Knight Priests, Companion of Holy Wisdom on Illustrious and Very Illustrious Knight Priests and, subject to approval from the Grand High Priest, Knight of Holy Wisdom on deserving Knight Priests who have previously attained the rank of Past Grand VII P. GRAND COLLEGE APPOINTMENTS / PROMOTIONS The Grand High Priest asked the Grand Recorder to announce the names and ranks of those appointed to, or promoted in, Grand College. All Knight Priests who were present at Annual Assembly were presented to the Grand High Priest. Full listings appear from page 23. On completion of the appointments and promotions, R Em Kt Pt Gordon Leaman, GS Sussex was invested by the Grand High Priest his District s Pillar Fund collarette (Sky Blue). GENERAL COUNCIL The Grand High Priest reminded Annual Assembly that the General Council comprises the Executive Committee as ex-officio members together with the Grand Seventh Pillar, the Grand Sixth Pillar and FOUR Grand Superintendents nominated by the Grand High Priest and FIVE elected members: The Grand High Priest s nominees were stated as; R Em Kt Pt Barry Searle, KCPO, G Supt Hertfordshire Dist

13 No 37; R Em Kt Pt Anthony Lynch, KCPO, G Supt Cheshire & North Wales; R Em Kt Pt Paul Butler, KCPO, G Supt Kent Dist No 5, and R Em Kt Pt Godfrey Bedford, KCPO, G Supt Yorkshire West Riding Dist No 24. The Grand High Priest called upon the Grand Recorder to announce the five nominations for the remaining vacancies. The Grand Recorder announced that he has received five nominations for the remaining vacancies: R Em Kt Pt Michael Roalfe, KCPO, G Supt East Midlands Dist No 31; R Em Kt Pt David Scott, KCPO, G Supt Yorkshire North & East Ridings Dist No 1; R Ill Kt Pt Stephen M c Donald, GHP Awd, Past G Supt Dist No 6; R Em Kt Pt Brian Wisbey, G Supt Hampshire & Isle of Wight, Dist No 6, and R Em Kt Pt Michael Graham, Holder of the Certificate of Merit, PGVII P and Past Grand Treasurer. As only five members of the Priestly Orders had been nominated those five members previously named were duly elected onto the General Council. The Grand High Priest thanked R Em Kt Pt John Singer KCPO, Past G Supt North Midlands Dist No 38 and R Em Kt Pt James Field, KCPO, G Supt Essex, Dist No 14 who had retired from the General Council. ADDRESS BY GRAND HIGH PRIEST Knight Priests, my first duty is to thank you all for re-electing me as your Grand High Priest. I have enjoyed tremendously my first three years as leader of this beautiful Christian Order. I am further blessed yet again with the wise counsel of my Executive Committee and General Council members as well as the encouragement and support of all my senior Officers throughout the world. What a joy it is for me to have the pleasure today of the company of so many of our Knight Priests. Especially of those Knight Priests that have travelled from the four quarters of the globe and from our sister Grand College in the USA. This is now the fourth time that I have had the pleasure of appointing, re-appointing and promoting Knight Priests within our Order, I congratulate you all, in the certain knowledge that you will intensify your efforts to exemplify the truly Christian Ideals of the Order. I look forward to meeting many of you, within your own Tabernacles, throughout the coming years. I welcome to the team our new Assistant Grand High Priest Ian Smith. I m sure you will also welcome him and agree with my choice. Right Illustrious Knight Priest Michal Hadfield has performed his duties well over the past three and a bit years, and I would like to thank him for his tremendous support and wish him well in the future. Unfortunately, Knight Priests our Past Grand High Priest Peter Donnison is not in the best of health and I am sure your thoughts and prayers go with him. I have also conversed with our Past Grand High Priest Jim Turner, who cannot be with us today, but sends his best wishes to us all. I said last year that when the appropriate regalia was in our possession for the awards of KCPO and GCPO I should consider further recipients. I have had the pleasure of fulfilling that promise and I congratulate the recipients, knowing full well that they absolutely have earned their distinction and will continue to give the Order their full support.

14 I have again renewed the patents for my Grand Superintendents, I know that they will continue to encourage their brethren and maintain the happy and harmonious relationships we all know and love throughout the Order. I would like to thank the members of the General Council who are retiring, James Field and John Singer, and welcome the new member Brian Wisbey and returning member Stephen M c Donald. My special thanks go to all those Active officers who retire today, in what has been another busy year as the Order continues to expand. Over the past 12 months we have undertaken the pleasing duty of consecrating six new Tabernacles - Hyperoon, Agios Pavos, Holy Cross, Christopher Gavin Maiden, Lefkos Pergos and Terence James Barnett. In addition we re-warranted three Tabernacles in France - Saint Louis, Saint Sernin and Saint Honorat. We have also installed six Grand Superintendents - R Em Kt Pt T D Dann, Tasmania, R Em Kt Pt T T Hodges, Australia Victoria, R Em Kt Pt D J Gamble, South Africa - Transvaal, R Em Kt Pt A Papagiannis, Greece, R Ill Kt Pt P J Jaillet, GCPO, France and R Em Kt Pt J Love, Surrey. In addition, R Ill Kt Pt D Whitfield was appointed Grand Inspector for South Africa. We are looking forward, to consecrating nine further Tabernacles in the coming year in Bolivia, Cumbernauld Scotland, Barcelona, another two in Athens Greece, two in Montpellier, France and two possibly in Barbados and Guyana, Western Caribbean Your Rulers were also busy this year with visiting many private Tabernacles on special occasions; these will be itemized in the year book. Long may this tradition of Rulers visiting private Tabernacles continue. Talking of Private Tabernacles, I am so pleased to day that we have displayed some of our Tabernacle banners and a District banner. I am very happy that this outward sign to the world of the existence of our Orders is showing to be a success and I congratulate the units and District concerned. Please consider them for your own Tabernacles and Districts in the fullness of time. Knight Priests, we are a worldwide organisation and what I would like to do now is to welcome our Knight Priests from abroad, by country, and would ask them to stand when their country is named alphabetically and be acknowledged - Australia; Bolivia; Brazil; Canada; Finland; France; Germany; Greece; Hong Kong; Ivory Coast; Netherlands; Paraguay; Spain and last but not least, United States of America. The Pillar Fund continues to flourish and I have to inform you that the 150,000 mark has been reached, but we must not be complacent as we still have a long way to go but I am confident, that with your continued support, we shall reap the rewards of our labours, in the fullness of time, with a permanent home for the administration of our Priestly Orders. I have to inform you that I have asked a committee to be set up to consider the possibility of finding us a permanent home in the not too distant future and if possible commit us to a mortgage to that end. I m sure you will all agree that the longer we wait the more expensive property becomes.

15 Knight Priests, you will be pleased to know that my speech is drawing to a close but it is customary to say a few Thank you s. I would therefore like to thank all the staff here at Hinckley, for allowing us the privilege of meeting here and being such willing helpers in our endeavours. This venue, I believe, is serving us very well and it appears to be quite suitable for us all to meet here again next year. I would like to thank the Grand Recorder R Em Kt Pt Stephen Priestley KCPO, his Deputy R Em Kt Pt Eric Brown CM, including of course, Linda and Marie for their continued hard work and dedication to the well running of the day to day administration of our Order. The Grand DC, R Em Kt Pt Glyn Goddard KCPO, continues to work tirelessly for the Ceremonial part of the Order, I thank him and his team for the exemplary way they perform their duties. I would like particularly to thank R Em Kt Pt Paul Darley for his magnificent endeavours as our Grand Treasurer, I know he works many hours above and beyond his duty to administer our finances, it is only a small part of his responsibilities to keep our accounts, and his continued administration of all our financial affairs is exemplary. He is of course assisted by V. Ill Kt Pt Bill Summ the Deputy Grand Treasurer whose main responsibility is to administer the Pillar Fund for the Order; Bill has travelled extensively throughout the country to perform this role for us; I thank you both. Last but not least, I would like to thank all those that carry out administrative duties for Districts and private Tabernacles. After the Grand Point I will close this Annual Assembly; please take these words with you. Grant that we may never be ashamed to own Thy name before the men of this world. Thank you for your forbearance in listening to me and may God bless you all. ANY OTHER NOTIFIED BUSINESS AGREED WITH THE GRAND RECORDER The Grand Recorder reported apologies and expressions of loyalty. He specifically mentioned: Holders of the GHP Awd, Grand Superintendents and Past Grand Superintendents not present. He confirmed the dining would be at 2.00pm. GRAND POINT R Ill Kt Pt Dr Donald John Woodgate, Assistant Grand High Priest, conducted the Grand Point, those taking part being first Appointments to Active Office and to Past Grand Rank. 21 REPORT OF THE GENERAL COUNCIL ROLE AND COMPOSITION The General Council has completed its fifteenth year since inception and meets at least twice a year at York. The Council is comprised of the twelve members of the Executive Committee, together with the President of the Council, four Grand Superintendents nominated by the Grand High Priest, five members of the Order elected at Annual Assembly together with the Grand VII Pillar and Grand VI Pillar of the year and the representative of the Grand College of America, if not already a member by virtue of other Office. The President of the Council assumes the role of chairman of the Council. In his absence, the members of General Council present who are not members of the Executive Committee select one from among their number to act as chairman. The Deputy Grand Recorder acts as Secretary. For the period under review the Council comprised M Ill Kt Pt C G Maiden M Em Kt Pt I P Duff R Ill Kt Pt M A Hadfield R Ill Kt Pt D J Woodgate R Em Kt Pt M H Roalfe R Em Kt Pt J J Field R Em Kt Pt B S Searle R Em Kt Pt G Bedford R Em Kt Pt D H W Scott R Em Kt Pt I T D Smith R Em Kt Pt F J Singer R Em Kt Pt A G Lynch R Em Kt Pt D S Pratt V Ill Kt Pt D R Blumson R Em Kt Pt A Papagiannis V Ill Kt Pt P M Darley R Em Kt Pt J S Priestley R Em Kt Pt M Graham R Em Kt Pt G R Goddard V Ill Kt Pt W H Summ R Eml Kt Pt E D Brown V Ill Kt Pt W J T Pratt V Ill Kt Pt P Mycock V Ill Kt Pt I H Maxey FINANCIAL During the past year we have consecrated six new Tabernacles and warranted three Tabernacles in France previously warranted by the Grand College of America. New Districts of Greece and of France have also been erected. In addition to Grand Superintendents for these Districts, four other Grand Superintendents were installed. Eleven Especial Assemblies were held for these ceremonies. ADMINISTRATION AND CEREMONIAL The Council noted it was some time since fees and dues had been reviewed and recommended a modest increase of 1 for Europe and 2 for the rest of the World for Annual Dues payable from July 2017 (ie on the 2016 Annual Return). In addition, it was agreed to recommend an increase of 5 on all first appointments and promotions in Grand Rank. Qualification for membership. In amending the Regulations to allow Grand College to recognise a Grand Lodge other than one recognised by UGLE (eg in Greece UGLE recognise one Grand Lodge but Grand Lodge of Scotland another), whilst a similar clause was inserted regarding Grand Chapters, a similar clause was not inserted regarding Great Priories. It is the recommendation of General Council that this omission be rectified with the following amendment to 21.01(c)

22 shall be a subscribing Member of a Preceptory or Commandery of Knights Templar within a Great Priory recognised by the Great Priory of England & Wales, or Conclave of a recognised jurisdiction of CBCS or fulfils the qualifications of a sister Grand College, or a Great Priory approved by Grand College As the Order of Holy Wisdom has been well received and is being worked regularly in many Districts, it is the recommendation of General Council that the first paragraph of be amended to The Clothing of the Order of Holy Wisdom is that worn by a Knight Templar Priest, without the Mitre, and with the addition of a cordelier which must be worn in all Tabernacle meetings - ie change from may be worn to must be worn. The proposed revisions were forwarded to all GHP Award, GCPO, KCPO and Certificate of Merit Holders, Grand Superintendents and Tabernacle Recorders in mid May.
