2 MAISON&OBJET PARIS / SINGAPORE / MIAMI BEACH THE DESIGNERS OF THE YEAR Over the last 20 years, MAISON&OBJET PARIS has developed a strategy that is 100% dedicated to Creation. Each year, this is celebrated under the auspices of its best-known names, representing the major areas of the Fair, scènes d intérieur, now! design à vivre and of course MAISON&OBJET for the cross-cutting approach and the spirit of Art de Vivre that the Fair embodies. The year 2015 sees a new chapter for MAISON&OBJET, which is celebrating the 20 th anniversary of the Fair, the second MAISON&OBJET ASIA (10-13 March) in Singapore and the launch of MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS (12-15 May) in Miami Beach. To mark this occasion, it was decided that from now on each MAISON&OBJET Fair, both in Paris and abroad, would have a Designer of the Year, that is four personalities per year, two for each MAISON&OBJET PARIS, another for MAISON&OBJET ASIA and another for MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS. For MAISON&OBJET PARIS, each of these two Designers must fit within the profile of each of the Paris shows, that is, a more product design-oriented profile in January and a designer more closely related to the world of interior architecture or decor for September. For MAISON&OBJET ASIA, the Designer selected is a renowned personality in the world of Asian creation representing the incredible richness and diversity of this vast area, which is becoming a major player in design creation and innovation, architecture and interior architecture. For MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS, the personality was chosen according to the same criteria as for MAISON&OBJET ASIA, with the overriding priority of providing an opening to both Americas, an ambition that forms an integral part of the DNA of MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS s positioning.

3 MAISON&OBJET PARIS JANUARY 2015 Nendo MAISON&OBJET PARIS Designer of the Year January 2015 Camper, New York City Camper Oki Sato, born in 1977 in Toronto, Canada, studied architecture at Waseda University in Tokyo. He obtained his Master s degree in In the same year, the Nendo studio was born in Tokyo. Now he has taken up the international stage, with offices in Tokyo and Milan. Nendo, meaning modelling clay, expresses his desire of having certain flexibility and the ability to reinvent oneself. The designer takes his inspiration from Japanese uncluttered style to create a language of his time. The philosophy of Oki Sato is reflected in his designs, thanks to which he transforms the interactions of people with the objects surrounding them by creating a parenthesis in their life. This desire is found in the uncluttered and characteristic shapes of his designs, to which he always adds a touch of humour and conviviality. Among his many collaborations: Cappellini, Moroso, DePadova, Starbucks, Puma and, recently, BoConcept to create the fusion concept. Recently the studio also took part in Milan Design Week, produced an installation called Rain Bottle at the September 2014 show of MAISON&OBJET PARIS and various exhibitions at the National Design Center in Singapore and at the Orgatec in Cologne. Nendo is currently preparing a new exhibition to be shown in Milan in In January 2015, Oki Sato, named Designer of the Year for MAISON&OBJET PARIS, will have his own expression space at now! design à vivre (Hall 8). Oki Sato, Nendo Oki Sato s first exhibition Streeterior was shown in Tokyo and Milan in He then went on to receive numerous prizes: Good Design Award, German Design Award, Elle Deco International Design Award and was named 2012 Designer of the Year by British magazine Wallpaper*. Several of his creations can be seen in museums such as the Museum of Modern Art of New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

5 MAISON&OBJET ASIA MARCH 2015 Neri & Hu MAISON&OBJET ASIA Designer of the Year March 2015 The Emporor Light, Moooi Lyndon Neri & Rosanna Hu Andrew Rowat Lyndon Neri and Rosanna Hu are the co-founders of the architecture and interior design practice Neri & Hu. Lyndon Neri was born in the Philippines in He studied architecture at Harvard University then at Berkeley, where he met Rossana Hu. Before joining forces with her, he directed various projects in Asia and worked in New York for several different architecture fi rms. Rossana Hu, born in Taiwan in 1968, studied architecture at the University of Princeton then at Berkeley. She began and then furthered her career working with various architects in Princeton, New York and San Francisco. After teaching at the Department of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong, they took off for Shanghai in 2002 where they worked together for American architect Michael Graves. In 2004 they created Neri & Hu, an international and interdisciplinary architect s studio located in Shanghai, as well as the concept store Design Republic. Neri & Hu offers services in the areas of architecture, operational planning and graphic design. Neri & Hu has received numerous prizes such as: AR House Awards, AR Awards for Emerging Architecture, World Architecture Festival, Festival Inside Award. Based in Shanghai, the Neri & Hu studio sits at the heart of contemporary chaos. Consequently, the cultural, historic and urban context serves as a jumping-off point for each project. Following on from their research, Neri and Hu wish their work to be rooted in the dynamic interaction of experience, detail, material, form and light instead of keeping to a stereotyped style. Among their numerous collaborations: Moooi, BD Barcelona Design, Meritalia, Lema, Parachilna, Classicon, Gandia Blasco, Stellar Works, and Swarovski. Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu were recognised as Wallpaper* s 2014 Designers of the Year. They will be the guests of honour at the IMM Cologne 2015 International interiors show. In March 2015, they will be Designers of the Year for MAISON&OBJET ASIA.

7 MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS MAY 2015 Zanini de Zanine MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS Designer of the Year May 2015 Escoras candlesticks, 2013 Riva Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1978, Zanini de Zanine remained in his hometown to study industrial design at the Catholic Institute. The son of the designer architect José Zanine Caldas, who collaborated most notably with Oscar Niemeyer, he grew up watching his father working on architectural, sculpture and design projects. Zanini de Zanine trained with Sergio Rordigues, with whom he produced his fi rst piece, and received his Masters degree in industrial design from the Puc-Rio University in One year later, he threw himself into the production of massive wood pieces made from items collected from demolition sites. From 2005 he worked on a new range of industrial furniture made from wood of controlled origin and other materials such as plastic, methracrylate or metal. From then on, Zanini de Zanine received the most prestigious design prizes in Brazil and throughout the world. IF Award and IDEA/Brasil are a few examples. In anticipation of the great renewal of the port area of Rio de Janeiro, and the changes in the urban and social dynamic of the city initiated by the Olympic Games of 2016, studio Zanini is counting on this opportunity for its development. Among his many collaborations are those with Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Slamp, and Tolix. Recently he showed his work at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and he will be taking part in Milan Design Week again in In May 2015, he will be Designer of the Year for MAISON&OBJET AMERICAS. In 2011, he created studio Zanini, bringing together the different creative worlds of the designer (studio, offi ce, laboratory, showroom), thus enabling him to develop his projects from A to Z. She worked in Paris for five years then decided, aged just 27, to set up her own design studio, carried by the momentum of her first project, the interior design for the Prescription Cocktail Club in Paris (Saint-Germain-des-Près). The multipurpose agency CHZON opened in summer With a researcher s mind, always seeking out new trends, Dorothée takes her inspiration from everything around her, especially from the great names in decor: Madeleine Castaing, Dorothy Draper, Fornasetti, David Hicks, Gio Ponti, Charles and Ray Eames and François-Xavier Lalanne. She always wishes to work as closely as possible with craftsmen, to create unique pieces and to highlight handmade creation. Decorators, joiners, marble masons, and their like have all the expertise that allows them to create a unique, timeless decor that everyone can make their own. Tirelessly, she trawls through junk shops and flea markets in search of objects that carry memories, which she then interprets with a touch of humour and irony. Finally, she puts the finishing touches to her historically charged decor with a few contemporary pieces, often from small craft collections. Dorothée is not seeking to create highly specialist decors, but places with a real personality, a clean atmosphere and a setting that invites people to exchange, share and make discoveries. Amont the places she has designed in Paris, there is now the very fine Hôtel Paradis and the Café Pinson in the 10 th arrondissement, and in the 1 st, the Beef Club, the Ballroom and the Fish Club. In the 2 nd we have the Mojo, in the 6 th, the Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels. She has also designed interiors in London, New York and Ibiza. A hotel and numerous bars and restaurants which bear little resemblance, but which are all united by the same atmosphere. She is currently finishing the design of Hôtel Panache and the Grand Pigalle Hôtel, both in the 9 th arrondissement and has also started working on the decor of the four-star Hôtel Bachaumont, located in the 2 nd arrondissement of Paris, which is due to open in May 2015 In September 2015, she will be Designer of the Year for MAISON&OBJET PARIS.
