Bell. Mr. T. Macdonald-Paterson, M.L.A., was presented with a valuable timepiece, in recognition of his discharging debts of ten years' standing, and from which he, had been legally released. 2. The trial of M. J. Minnis, for the murder of William Pillinger, closed by the jury being discharged without being able to agree to a verdict [see Feb. 23, 1882]. 3. The Brisbane Grammar School sports were held on the grounds attached to the new school. 4. The JRamttey, from London, arrived at Cape Moreton. Sir J. P. Bell's racehorse, Wheatsheaf, was found in a paddock with her thigh broken. She had to be shot in consequence. 5. Laycock and Solomon, the scullers from Sydney, arrived in Brisbane. 6. H. L. Lock, of the German Station Hotel, committed suicide. The telegraph line was completed to Thargomindah. 7. The first meeting in connection with the annual session of the Baptist Association of Queensland took place in the South Brisbane Baptist Church. 8. Dr. C. F. Siedel, of St. George, died. Macfarren's " Outward Bound" and Mendelssohn's " Walpurgis Night" were rendered by the Brisbane Musical Union in the Albert Hall. 9. The libel action at Charters Towers, Deane v. O'Kane, Avas decided, a verdict being entered for the plaintiff for Separation Day \_sce 12.].The Fortitude Valley Racing Club had a meeting at Eagle Farm., 11. The Rev. W. Kildahl officiated for the first time at the Milton Church. 12. Observed as a general holiday in lieu of the 10th. The principal attraction in Brisbane was the Milton regatta, the main feature of which was the All-comers race for the 100 prize, won easily by Laycock, of Sydney. McCleer, of Brisbane, and Solomon, of Sydney, also competed. The day was intensely hot. A Chinaman, named Ali Quee, was hung in Brisbane Gaol for the murder of a countryman at the Palmer. 13. Mr. Alexander, of Kogan Creek, Dalby, accidentally killed by the wheel of his dray passing over him.- A son of J. Waldron, of Tabragalba, died in the Brisbane Hospital, of tetanus, the result, of an accident received three weeks previously. 14. The Ebenezer, schooner, arrived at the Brisbane Bar from New York. 15. The Premier and Mrs. Mcllwraith returned to Brisbane after a tour of eight-weeks in the North and West. Constable McMullen, of Tiaro, died from the effects of sunstroke. A race meeting held at Wivenhoe. li. The Glamis, with immigrants, from London, via Liverpool, arrived at Cape Moreton. 1Z. A sculling race for the " Norwegian Ale" prize, valued at 30, and given by the agent, Mr. C. Warde, took place in the Milton reach of the Brisbane River. Laycock and Solomon, of Sydney, and McCleer, of Brisbane, were the only competitors ; the former won. 18. Koenig's biscuit factory, Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, burnt, 19. Mr. E. R. Drury, general manager of the Queensland National Bank, returned from England. 20. Sir J. P. Bell, while driving in a Hansom cab from the Bank of Australasia, in company with the manager, J. B. Dixon, suddenly fell forward when near the Commercial Bank ; he was taken into Ward's chemist's shop, where, after remaining unconscious for a little while, he expired.
