photo: Julien De Smedt photo: Julien De Smedt Maritime Youth House Amager Strandvej 13 DL-2300 Copenhagen The site was polluted with heavy metals (and therefore stable) To save budget the architects covered the entire site with a wooden deck (1600m2), so wasn t necessary to clean the site first The building is shared by two clients, a sail club and a youth house The youth house needed outdoor space for the kids to play; the sail club needed most of the site to park their boats The design is the literal results of negotiations between the two contradictory demands Where the deck rises it allows for boat storage and, at the same time, becomes an exciting play area for the kids The common room for daily activities is located in the front house, the workshop and storage is in the back corner building In contrast to the wooden exterior decks the floor in the community space is white concrete and a standard grey concrete in the workshop and storage area This is meant to reflect the dominance of the outdoor activities; the wooden deck is the actual "room" of the Maritime Youth House photo: Julien De Smedt m² Main designer, BIG Bjarke Ingels Group JDS architects Kvarterløft Governmental City Renewal Project JDS Monday till Friday From the central station; Københavns Hovedbanegård Take bus 2A direction: Kastrup Lufthavn Change bus at Bulgariensgade to bus 77 direction: Sundbyvester Plads Get off at Sundby Sejlforening Walk 2 min to the Maritime Youth House Take metro to Lergravsparken Station - direction: Lergravsparken Station Change to bus 77 - direction: Sundbyvester Plads Get off at Sundby Sejlforening, walk 2 min to the Maritime Youth House 3

photo: Naomi Schiphorst photo: Naomi Schiphorst Danish Jewish Museum Proviantpassagen 6 DK-1218 Copenhagen The Jewish concept Mitzvah, "a good deed", is of central significance to Daniel Libeskind's architecture for the museum The Hebrew word Mitzvah is literally stamped in the building: the letters in gigantic sizes form the walking area of the museum, in which the visitors move Danish Jews were saved through the effort of their compatriots and neighbors during the tragic years of the war In this way the Danish Jewish Museum differs from other European Jewish Museums, the history is manifested in the form, structure and light The museum is located in the Royal Boat House built by King Christian IV, transformed into the Royal Library, and now shared with the Jewish Museum The entrance lies in the courtyard, and is marked with conversation spaces, stones that appear to be lying around, random placed The interior has a very Libeskind-like structure, in this case a theatre like décor for all material the museum collects, which can document significant aspects of Jewish life in m² Daniel Libeskind Danish Jewish Museum NGHM photo: Naomi Schiphorst Winter: Tuesday to Friday: 1 pm - 4 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 12 noon - 5 pm, Monday closed Summer: (1 June - 31 August), Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am - 5 pm, Monday closed The museum is located in the Royal Library garden, behind the big black library When it is closed: look for the small concrete grey door in the green wall of the Royal Library Public transport: Buslines 1A, 2A, 15, 26, 29 to Højbro Plads 66 to The Royal Library, Christians Brygge Closest metro station: Kongens Nytorv, 10 minutes walk 9

photo: HJ Imhoff photo: HJ Imhoff Copenhagen Metro Stations Nørreport Jagtvej DK-2200 Copenhagen There are 22 stations on the existing Metro network Nine of these are underground; of these, six are deep level while three are just below the ground They all have a timeless and similar design by KHR architekter, and can be recognized by a five-metre-tall information column in front of the stations All the stations are 60 metres long and 20 metres wide, with the exception of Nørreport station which is 80 metres long to allow a link to the previously-existing S-train platforms On street level, the underground stations can be recognized by glass pyramids They are used to cast light down into the station areas In this way there will always be daylight underground There are prisms in the pyramids which intensify the light , Urban planner KHR architekter Metroselskabet HJI photo: HJ Imhoff The Metro runs daily between 5 am and 12 pm Thursday, Friday and during the weekend, the Metro also runs all night We've put the placemark on the map at Nørreport, from where you walk out of the tunnel station into a large shopping area Five minutes walk and you will find yourself in green breathing areas or at one of Copenhagen s plenty museums See for more stations and maps Lines M1 and M2 pass this station 10

photo: Jens Lindhe photo: Jens Lindhe Boligslangen Tom Kristensens Vej Copenhagen Boligslangen (literally 'the housing serpent') is Ørestad's biggest residential-housing project, which will consist of nearly 300 housing units and a day-care center In several places, the 'serpent' intertwines with the canal that runs through the area from Copenhagen University, past the Danish Broadcasting Corporation's media center, and out into a little lake, Grønjordssøen What is special about this complex is that a single roof covers two separate apartment houses: Fælledhaven, which holds public-housing units, and Universitetshaven, with condos and co-ops Fælledhaven's design placed more emphasis than most public housing on flexibility and resident influence For example, room partitions can be set up in different ways, depending on how many rooms the resident wants Universitetshaven consists of 2 buildings, their common roof crossing the opening between them and maintaining the impression of one long 'serpent' (text by cphxdk) Project is not public! m² Technical engineer Contractor Landscape designer Domus Architekter Hamiconsult A/S NCC Construction A/S Peter Holst MAA MD FSBbolig, Ørestad Nord HJI photo: Jens Lindhe Take the metro to the university-district You can find more information on

photo: Piotr Krajewski photo: Piotr Krajewski Statens Museum for Kunst Sølvgade Copenhagen The old museum building dates back to 1896 and was designed by the architect Vilhelm Dahlerup The museum was short of space from the very beginning It was not until 1970, however, that the amount of floor space available for exhibitions was increased This was done by roofing two atrium wells in the middle of the museum The 1998 extension has provided the museum with a significant - and much-needed - increase in the exhibition space available The magnificent, modernist extension building is situated in parallel with Dahlerup's old museum, opening the house up towards the surrounding parkland The architect created the new architecture The two widely different buildings are separate entities, yet linked by a glass-roofed Sculpture Street, with footbridges connecting the first floors The two buildings meet and merge in a single fluid movement while also clearly demarcating their distinctive characters and the architectural differences between them 1998 C F Møller s Statens Museum for Kunst photo: Frankss pkrajewski_pl Tuesdays-Sundays 10 am-5 pm ; Wednesdays 10 am-8 pm ; Mondays closed Bus routes: 6A, 14, 26, 40, 42, 43, 184, 185, 150S, 173 E Trains: S-trains and regional trains to Øster- port and Nørreport Stations Metro: Nørreport and Kgs Nytorv Stations Bicycles: Øster Voldgade and Sølvgade Parking:At Stockholmsgade and Øster Voldgade parking fee Sunday free of charge 12

photo: Adam Mørk photo: Adam Mørk Tivoli Concert Hall Vesterbrogade Copenhagen 3XN won the prestigious competition for the renovation of Tivoli's concert hall In a partnering process with contractor NCC and engineers Birch & Kropgboe, 3XN has restored the former glory of the concert hall and has created new buildings in the old garden Focal point of the project is a new circular three-storey foyer with lounge, bar and outdoor café which gives a view of Tivoli The foyer is light, transparent and modern, yet it keeps the 'Tivoli-spirit' White lacquered, twisted alu strings create a joyful façade that catches and reflects the sun and Tivoli's many lamps at night The 700 m2 pavilion is the new main entrance to the concert hall as well photo: Adam Mørk XN Tivoli 3XN 16

photo: Niels Erik Lund photo: Niels Erik Lund Koncerthuset Emil Holms Kanal Copenhagen The concert centre Koncerthuset designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, has a blue frontage, monumental, yet airy, as if the building had been carved out of the sky The frontage is a semi-transparent screen and the images projected onto the vast surfaces create constantly varying impressions which make the whole structure look as if it is in motion, organic and alluring The aural quality of the house has been ensured by Japanese acoustics experts Nagata Acoustics who were also behind La Philharmonie de Paris Nouvel has also designed all interior elements of Koncerthuset The shells on the outside of the Concert Hall (Studio 1) are clad with fibre-concrete, on the inside with rockwool and porous plaster The concert hall foyer is one large room distributed over 7 levels from c 25m underground to c 30m above ground level The largest space that welcomes the public has a depth of 96m Here 25 video projectors and 50 slide projectors show slides around the foyer photo: Niels Erik Lund m² Jean Nouvel DR Forside MI_MOA By Metro, the stop is called "DR Byen" which is 3 minutes walk from Koncerthuset 17

photo: schmidt hammer lassen architects photo: schmidt hammer lassen architects The Crystal Puggaardsgade / Hambrosgade 1562 Copenhagen The Crystal reads as a transparent, geometrical, glazed form which, resting only on a single point and a single line, floats as a visually light, crystalline structure above the plaza The building is intermediate between the city and the harbour, and harmonises with neighbouring buildings On the southern side, it rises and creates space for the main entrance From one corner, there is passage under the building and a clear view out towards Nykredit s head office building, called the Glass Cube, and the harbour The interior layout of the building has been designed for optimum functionality, flexibility and efficiency The typical floor plan is disposed in a Z-shape around two atria, which ensures that all workstations are well lit and enjoy a view The building s multi-faceted glass façade reflects both daylight and the immediate surroundings, but also features an integrated sunscreen that allows the building to adapt to changing light conditions photo: schmidt hammer lassen architects Project is not public! m² Main designer, Landscape architect Structural engineer schmidt hammer lassen architects SLA Grontmij I Carl Bro A/S Alectia HelleBeelden 20

photo: Julian Weyer photo: Julian Weyer The Opera Pavilion Orlogsværftsvej Copenhagen With the Opera Pavilion, which can accommodate 200 waiting persons, opera guests and other visitors to Holmen will have a place of shelter by the water bus quay In its form, the building takes its cue from the existing semicircle of the jetty The pavilion thus has the appearance of a seamless, circular geometrical shape which is open towards the jetty and on two sides, as well as towards the gangway pier The clear, simple expression is underlined in the facade structure, which consists of two strips of copper, between which runs a glass facade offering 360-degree visibility The roof, which is slightly sloping, is also clad in copper, and features an asymmetrically-positioned round skylight, which gives the building's fifth facade a certain lightness This unusual architectural treatment was desirable, as the entire building can be seen from the Opera foyer Copper has been chosen to create an architectural link with the handsome, preserved control towers m² Services engineer Contractor C F Møller s Alectia HSM Industri AP Møller og Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond til almene Formaal C_F_Moller_s photo: Julian Weyer During water bus operating hours By water bus line 901, 902 or

photo: Dissing+Weitling photo: Dissing+Weitling The University Library Njalsgade Copenhagen Throughout the planning and design process, architectural focus has been on creating the optimum faculty library based on users' needs Mikkelsen arkitekter - in co operation with a user group of Royal Library employees - analysed functionality requirements and work flow Optimum design solutions catering for the needs of both employees and students were then designed on this basis The result of this intensive planning and design process is a building characterised by flexibility, airy openness and simple, clear definition The three open floors have been laid out with incremental noise levels in mind - from easy socialising in the lounge and café areas to group study areas and finally to the library reading rooms designated for 'quiet' use where students can concentrate completely on individual study photo: Nazar Leskiw m² Contractor Landscape designer Mikkelsen Arkitekter Rambøll Sven Kierkegaard The Danish Ministry of Culture/The Danish Royal Library Nazar Tuesday - Wednesday: 08-21; Friday: 8-18; Saturday - Monday: Closed Metro: Islands Brygge 23

Jemtelandsgade Jemtelandsgade Copenhagen The Neighbourhood Center is located in former industrial buildings from 1880 Today the scheme has a mixed use programme; a local library and a café as well as office facilities on the upper floors The structural changes to the existing building consist primarily of the partial removal of the existing floor decks in order to create a new triple-high foyer space In addition to this, a new building was added offering a Neighbourhood Center for gatherings The supporting structure in the hall consists of an exposed framework of plywood covered with thermal glazing panels in pine frames m² Dorte Mandrup s Copenhagen Municipality DMA photo: Jens Lindhe monday - friday saturday metro or bus 24
