In is era e architecture and e art turned to e past, to e previous styles using em in a new approach. The architects had discovered e history of art and artistic liberty at e same time. At e turn of e 20 century e art and also e architecture searched for new ways instead of using historical architectural elements or motifs. The changes led to e Modern Movement when buildings were being erected wiout decoration or ornaments in e first quarter of e 20 century. This period was divided into different eras, but ese types of periodization were different in different countries and changed in e course of e 20 century. Beside e question of styles 19 century is important not only because of e appearing of new structures and materials in e architecture but because of e great development in e field of e functional planning. This subject surveys e development of e styles in several areas of Europe (Great Britain, France, Germany, Russia) looking out to e United States of America too, because ere e styles reflected e European ones.

4 Theory of Architectural 2 BMEEPETO921 - Design The course gives an overview of eory of design from 1968 to e present. It picks up specific emes of architectural design and puts em into broader cultural context. Themes include but not limited to: 1. history, memory, tradition, 2. autonomy, pleasure, deconstruction, 3. place, material, experience, 4. Tectonics, ornament, image, 5. City, metropolis, pragmatism, 6. practice, production, diagram, 7. digital technology, 8. landscape, topography, 9. responsibility, sustainability. To bring e eoretical problems of design closer to practice e course uses e writings of leading practicing architects as case studies. The aim of e course is to emphasize e importance of inking on design, and to enrich e students vocabulary of architectural discourse. Introduction to structural 2 BMEEPSTA101 - design The most important meods of analysis and design of engineering structures are presented, togeer wi eir modelling, and e applied approximations. It is shown how high school statics (and ma) can be applied to engineering structures. The understanding of e behaviour of structures is emphasized. Urban Design 1 2 BMEEPUA501 max. 50 The subject is e eoretical course of e fif semester, wi 2 hours lecture weekly. Man during historical times has always lived in communities, so his life has been determined by his relation to e rest of e community, while at e same time a house erected is also determined by its built environment. The same way as a man cannot be separated from his community, a building cannot be separated from its urban environment. The architectural quality can be well described by relation of e building to its environment. The main scenes of e lives of communities are e settlements, where e most developed examples are cities. Why are settlements formed or deserted, why are ey developing or declining? What should be e ratio of planned and unplanned elements in a settlement? What is e role of private and public interests, of private and public properties in e development of a settlement? How is a city functioning and what are e most efficient means of its operation? We are looking for e answers to ese - sometimes philosophical - questions and looking for e relation between e inseparable categories of building and city, architecture and urban development. Departmental Project 2 3 BMEEPRAT701 max. 10 Interior Design tp The course is in strong relationship wi e six semester's oer course "Department's Design I". There are ree small exercises in is term, based on e eme of: modeingl, construction, visuality. All ree of ese exercises are based on e exercises made during "Department's Design I", by solving or developing some parts of ose. Thus e studens has e opportunity to experience more e richness of e desing process. The first exercise deals wi e question of creating a mode and its role in e architectural praxis and in e experience in e human cognition. The second exercise is construction, is one is examining e relationship between e already made model and e main space-structure of e ongoing design "small complex". he ird small exercise is called visuality, during which e student makes a detailed drawing of an ornament chosen by e consultant and e student togeer.
