8 PLANNING ENVIRONMENT BOLTON RESIDENTIAL EXPANSION STUDY (BRES) The Town of Caledon s population and employment forecasts and allocations for the 2031 planning horizon are outlined in the Official Plan Amendment No. 226 (OPA 226). Caledon s Council adopted OPA 226 in June 2010 and received subsequent approval by the OMB in October According to the Official Plan, growth in Caledon is to be concentrated in the Rural Service Centres of Mayfield West, Caldon East and Bolton. OPA 226 is being implemented by Caledon through a series of settlement area boundary expansions, one of which is the Bolton Residential Expansion Study (BRES). The BRES projects a total population of 39,898 people for the Bolton Rural Service Centre by It was determined that 190 hectares of additional urban land in Bolton is required to accomodate 10,348 additional people and 2,635 jobs prior to Of the proposed options within the BRES, in June 2014 Town council chose to support Option 3 (with a GO Station focus) at the present time. Subsequently, in October of the same year, an application (the BRES ROPA) was submitted to the Region of Peel and is currently under evaluation. The Subject Property is located in Option 4 which is directly to the south of Option 3 (see figure 1). In January 2014 the proposal of Option 7 (a hybrid of Option 3 and 4; see figure 2 & 3) was submitted to the Town of Caledon. While at present the municipality has not included these lands within the current expansion, it is the logical next phase of expansion and there exists a strong case to include it in the next Official Plan Review. 10 TRANSIT GTA WEST CORRIDOR The Province is studying route options for a new 400-series highway, GTA West, which will connect Vaughan to Milton. The four-to six-lane highway will alleviate congestion on highways and roads across the region. FUTURE GO STATION The 2010 Metrolinx study identified a preferred location for a new GO Station, adjacent to BRES Option 3 lands.
