2 editorial Hallo Laserdisc- und DVD-Fans, liebe Filmfreunde! Wir sind alle gleich. Doch manche sind gleicher. Ein sehr geistreicher Spruch, der für die Situation der DVD-Fachgeschäfte in Deutschland nicht besser zutreffen könnte. Denn wo kleine Fachhändler wie wir stets darum bemüht sind, Kunden durch fachliche Kompetenz, Service und Produktvielfalt zu überzeugen, versuchen große Discounter mit wettbewerbswidrigen Methoden auch noch die letzten überlebenden Kleinhändler vom Podest zu stürzen. Und das - so scheint es - mit großem Erfolg Dank der Mithilfe der nicht minder großen Major-Studios. Zwei Ereignisse in jüngster Zeit zeugen von solch unlauterem Vorgehen. Die erste Rüge gilt der Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment GmbH, die bereits eine Woche vor seinem offiziellen Erstverkaufstag den Bruce Willis Blockbuster STIRB LANGSAM 4.0 paletten weise in bestimmte Discounterketten plazierte, damit sich diese die längst vergoldete Nase auch noch mit Rubinen besetzen konnten. Als dann genau einen Tag vor dem Erstverkaufstag dieser Titel an die Fachgeschäfte ausgeliefert wurde, lag den Lieferungen ein Schreiben bei, das auf die rechtlichen Konsequenzen bei Verletzung des Erstverkaufstags hinwies. Derlei Geschäftsgebaren eines großen Studios lässt tief blicken. Offensichtlich ist der Einfluss der Discounterketten auf die Führungsriege dieses Unternehmens enorm groß. Aber die Fox steht damit nicht alleine in deutschen Landen. Auch die Kollegen von der Warner Home Video Deutschland sind hier mit von der Partie. Ihnen gehört die zweite Rüge. Diese erteilen wir im Zusammenhang mit der im Dezember kommenden neuen DVD-Version des Klassikers BLADE RUNNER. Alle Fans wissen bereits, dass es das 5-DVD-Set nicht nur in einer schönen Metallbox geben wird, sondern auch in einer exklusiven Kofferverpackung. Und die stellt natürlich ein echtes Sammlerstück dar. Dass jedoch der engagierte Fachhandel kein einziges Stück dieses Koffers zu Gesicht bekommen wird, steht bereits fest. Denn Warner Deutschland hat die gesamte Charge an einen bundesweit agierenden Online-Buchhändler abgetreten. Ein trauriges Beispiel dafür, dass im DVD-Marktsegment offensichtlich das Wettbewerbsrecht mit Füßen getreten wird. Gleiche Chancen für alle war vorgestern. Alle Chancen für die Großen - das ist heute harte Realität. Dass das auch anders geht, zeigt die Situation auf dem amerikanischen Markt. Denn der wird nicht von großen Discounterketten regiert. Dort lieferte die Fox LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD an alle Händler gleichzeitig aus. Und Warners BLADE RUNNER- Kofferedition wird - wie könnte es auch anders sein - an jeden Händler ausgeliefert. Angesichts derartig skandalöser Geschäftspraktiken hierzulande denkt man als Fachhändler nunmehr regelmäßig über Sinn und Unsinn des eigenen Tuns nach. Denn es geht ja offensichtlich darum, die lästigen kleinen Fachgeschäfte endlich loszuwerden. Sind es doch meist genau diese Geschäfte, die nicht jedes fehlerbehaftete Produkt einfach stillschweigend an die Konsumenten weiterreichen, sondern stets darum bemüht sind, die Hersteller zur Beseitigung von Masteringoder gar Produktionsfehlern zu bewegen. Aus Herstellersicht ist es natürlich erstrebenswert, DVDs so billig wie möglich herzustellen und diese dann nur noch palettenweise in die Großmärkte zu transportieren, wo sie dann zu Schleuderpreisen verramscht werden. Dabei bleibt Qualität natürlich auf der Strecke. Aber das ist ja egal. Es werden von allen Filmen ja sowieso noch mindestens zwei weitere Versionen nachgeschoben. Und eine davon wird sich schon irgendwie abspielen lassen. Sollte das die Ausgangsidee der DVD gewesen sein? Wohl kaum. Denn sonst hätte kein einziger Filmfan ernsthaft damit begonnen, ganze DVD-Sammlungen aufzubauen. Als Fachgeschäft fühlt man sich immer mehr wie David, der gegen den übermächtigen Goliath kämpft. Die Vernunft sagt einem immer wieder, einfach die Pforten für immer zu schließen. Aber würde man es sich damit nicht zu einfach machen? Schließlich besitzt man ja immer noch eine gehörige Portion Enthusiasmus, nicht zuletzt genährt durch das positive Feedback verständnisvoller und zufriedener Kunden.
