3 About the Institution Sree Narayana Gurukulam College of Engineering is a new age, multi-disciplinary institute offering a portfolio of courses in Engineering, Computer Applications and Management streams. Ensuring the right blend of academic rigor and business focus of the industry, the institution has transformed into a trend setter in professional education since SNGCE prides itself in creating a congenial academic environment, conducive to learning on the strength of most modern infrastructural facilities provided by the management and a highly motivated and competent team of faculty constantly endeavoring to mould world-class professionals of the future. The college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. SNGCE is an ISO 9001:2008 certified Institute and five departments of which are accredited by NBA. The college offers B. Tech and M.Tech courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Computer Science and Engineering disciplines, apart from PG courses such as MBA and MCA. The institution was initiated by Sree Narayana Gurukulam Trust, a registered charitable trust formed by a group of visionaries, with an aim to uphold the ideals of Sree Narayana Guru ( ), the great sage and social reformer who is considered as the leader of Indian Renaissance movement.

4 About the Department The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering has been functioning since the inception of the college in the year The Department offers B.Tech course in EEE & M.Tech course in Power Electronics. The department is NBA accredited. The department is bestowed with a team of competent and dedicated faculty, possessing a rare blend of industrial and teaching experience. The graduated students of the department had brought laurels to the institution by securing ranks in the university examinations as well as coveted positions of employment.

5 About the Institution of Engineers (India) The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional interest. IEI has membership strength of nearly 0.7 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarters at Kolkatta. IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades. In this period of time it has been inextricably linked with the history of modern day engineering in 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions among professional engineers, academicians and research workers. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating from over 100 centres located across the country. The Institution has established R & D centres at various locations in the country and also provides grant-in-aid to its members to conduct research and development on engineering subjects. IEI offers non- formal engineering course, the successful completion of which is officially recognized as equivalent to a degree in engineering. 6 Program Objective There is little to doubt the importance of Power and Energy in contributing to the growth and development of a country and for a developing economy like India, they play a very crucial role in fuelling the economy. Availability and access to energy are considered as catalysts for economic growth. The importance of exploring non-conventional sources of energy has gained momentum across the globe to reduce the effects of green house gases. The non-conventional energy is imperative to combat the adverse effects on the environment otherwise caused by the conventional sources of energy. This is also vital to achieve economies of scale in generating energy, and create employment opportunities and to reduce emission of green-house gases. Renewable energy hold the future key for electrical power generation as it has the potential to meet the major electricity requirements of our global society. It is hoped that the conference will provide a common platform for practicing engineers and those engaged in research and development for closer interaction and exchange of ideas.
