Of special note is its contribution to wartime history, when the house became home to Air Chief Marshall Sir Arthur Bomber Harris during World War II and provided a significant focal point for Allied strategy. Singular guests of note were Field Marshall Montgomery, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Atlee, Dwight Eisenhower and General De Gaulle. Royalty was present too, with King George VI and Queen Elizabeth paying an official visit in February In 2000, the house was purchased by the present owners from the RAF and converted into the impressive family home it is today. Significant investment was made to return it to a comfortable family home with generous guest/staff accommodation, as well as a home based business. Largely two storeys, the house is built of brick with pale stucco render, essentially composing a U-shape including a beautiful converted barn to the rear. The windows are a mixture of sashes and timber casements, with bay windows to the front and rear of the house. A particular feature is the master en suite windows with heavy double glazing, reputedly part of a panic room installed during the Gulf War in the 1980s.
