2 In August 1973, elected a full Member of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (Valuers and Estate Managers' Chapter), thereby acquiring a postgraduate diploma of the institution : Attended a Graduate course in Economics at Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana, U.S.A.; and 1978, obtained a Master of Science degree (in Economics: Urban Regional Analysis) of that University : Enrolled for a Ph.D. course in Economic Geography (Urban-Regional Science Major). On June 26, 1980, defended a doctoral thesis successfully, and in August 1980 obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree (in Economic Geography) of that University. 3 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE As a Pupil surveyor I was made the Valuation Officer-in-Charge of Central Province (Kenya) between 1971 and My duties were to assist the Chief Government Valuer in day-to-day general real estate and valuation work in the Province. Undertook all types of Real Estate Appraisal (Valuation) with special emphasis on Urban Valuation. I also played major roles in land acquisition, property rating and other aspects of Estate Management related to Government Lands in Central Province. Managed, among other things, the following major projects in Land Acquisition in the Province:- Meru Sewerage Scheme Karatina Sewerage Scheme Githuguri Rural Pilot Housing Scheme Kerugoya Technical Institute, (Land Acquisition Scheme for the Kirinyaga Technical Institute). After being elected a full member of the (Institution of Surveyors of Kenya) became the Valuation Officer in Charge of Eastern and Central Provinces (Kenya). My duties were to be answerable to the Chief Government Valuer on all Real Estate Appraisal (Valuation) Matters in the two Provinces. During this time I participated in various high policy land decisions, besides doing my other professional duties. I was instrumental in the design of the Owner-Occupied House Allowance Valuation Policy for the Government of Kenya, and other parastatal organizations. This policy was first tested by me in Central and Eastern Provinces and is operational even today. In 1974 I was promoted to Valuer Grade I in the Ministry of Lands and Settlement at the Department of Lands. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN THE ACADEMIC FIELD 3 3

4 In January 1975 I took up an academic appointment with the University of Nairobi as Lecturer to Present: During my tenure as a Lecturer I have taught the following subjects in the Faculty of Agriculture Design and Development of Nairobi University and at the Faculty of Arts and social sciences, Egerton University. Research Methodology; Real Estate Appraisal (Valuation); Land Economics, Building Technology; Town and Country Planning; Urban-Regional Analysis Statistics and Computer Applications; Cartography - Manual and automated.
