2 Outstanding citizens of Taipei City for the Year A passion for public interests Mr. Hsu Yong-jia DB: Apr. 5, 1965 Main accomplishment: For over a decade Mr. Hsu has supported youth entrepreneurs in Taipei City with consulting services in his role as coordinator for the Taipei City Youth Entrepreneur Guidance Network of the National Youth Commission. He has also been a member of volunteer fire brigades since In 2008, he became Captain of She-tzi Station that supports services like fire-fighting in Shilin and Beitou Districts and search and rescue for missing trekkers in Yangmingshan. In 2009, he led a team of volunteer fire fighters to support the Taipei City Fire Department in their disaster relief mission in Linbian area of Pingtung County. Furthermore, Mr. Hsu has also made longterm contributions in the field of education in Taipei City through his participation in the formulation, planning and implementation of education policies by offering his advice in an opportune manner. Suffice it to say that his passion for public interests in the areas of youth entrepreneurship, fire-fighting services and the wholesome development of education in this city has been impressive and therefore merits due recognition. A Hand behind Community Building and Development Mr. Lin Guan-hong DB: Apr. 22, 1965 Main accomplishment: During his tenure as Chairman of the Taipei City Batou Community Association, Mr. Lin pioneered a multitude of indicative initiatives conducive to improving the overall living environment in Beitou District, including launching the Beitou Historical Site Project under the Public Trust Foundation for Taipei City Historical Sites for the restoration of Xinbeitou Station, and assisting in reinvigorating and renewing the historical building, Plum Garden which was successfully reopened in January In the field of arts and culture, he has organized the Beitou Arts Carnival, an annual program that after eight years has become an arts and cultural gala in Beitou District. Mr. Lin's significant contributions to p r o m o t i n g c u l t u r a l a n d h i s t o r i c a l development and complementary tourism services in this district deserve this recognition. A Guardian of Community Safety Mr. Wong Fu-lai DB: Apr. 22, 1965 Main accomplishment: Serving as a volunteer for over two decades, Mr. Wong has been committed to reducing hazards and enhancing safety in Neihu District by proactively promoting the practices of a safe community during his tenure as Chairman of the Neihu Association for Community Safety and Health Promotion. Under his leadership, the District was duly c e r t i f i e d a s a n I n t e r n a t i o n a l S a f e Community in both 2005 and He has successfully presented Neihu District in the international arena; he has promoted its industrial development, enhanced its image as an urban area of safety and health, and shared the success story and related experiences of community development in Neihu District with other communities both inside and outside of Taiwan. A Good Will Hunter for Ex-convicts Mr. Hsue Feng-zhi DB: Jul. 30, 1934 Main accomplishment: For nearly thirty years Mr. Hsue has incessantly devoted himself to the caretaking of ex-convicts and the education of probation officers. As an important impartial representative for the general public on the board of the Taiwan After-Care Association, he often has proactively engaged himself in education for inmates on career planning in the hope that this prevention over cure approach can help them re-adapt themselves to society more quickly. Over the years he has embodied the spirit of protection and care for ex-convicts by constantly offering them guidance on the acquisition of vocational skills, and by helping them succeed in entrepreneurship, employment or job transfer. Furthermore, he is a strong advocate of caretaking for ex-convicts in the society and has proactively solicited corporate support and sponsorship for the sustainable development of Taiwan After- Care Association. 340

3 A Long-time Caregiver for People with Disabilities Mr. Zheng Hsin-zhen DB: Mar. 27, 1946 Main accomplishment: In 1989, Mr. Zheng founded Kuang Ching Foundation to serve p e r s o n s w i th m e n tal a n d p h y s i c a l disabilities. In 2001, he launched a 0800 I'm listening psychological support hotline; he introduced the Between Whole and Imperfect Disability Film Festival, using films as a life-education tool to tell inspiring stories of how people have fought to better their own lives in spite of disabilities, and also as a campaign tool to raise public awareness of respect for and acceptance of people with disabilities. He founded and led the Taiwan NPO Self-Regulation Alliance and has been active in serving public interests through his involvement in the operations of Taiwan Leprosy Relief Foundation and Lo-Sheng Sanatorium, New Taipei City. In times of financial difficulty, he has proactively searched for resources to ensure that adequate levels of caretaking services are made available to patients. Suffice it to say that he has made ample contributions towards caretaking of the underprivileged in society. Man at the Helm of the 2010 Taipei International Floral Expo Mr. Ding Si-yong DB: Sep. 25, 1952 Main accomplishment: Mr. Ding was invited to serve as General Producer of the 2010 Taipei International Floral Expo due to his 25-year expertise in exposition research. In order to win high acclaim and to raise Taiwan's visibility in the international community through this expo, he has exercised brilliant capabilities of planning, coordination and integration to lead the expo team on a successful mission of presenting to the world a multi-faceted showcase of Taiwan's beauty and prowess in an exposition that enjoyed nearly 9 million visitors in total. Throughout the Floral Expo period, his demonstrated competences and readiness to take responsibility have led to the successful conclusion of an international event that has been widely considered as another marvelous landmark in the course of Taiwan's development, thus making him a true role model for the public.
