photo: Sarah Blee photo: Sarah Blee Werkhuizen MIN Merksemsesteenweg 177 2100 Deurne http://wwwbwminorg/ The four floors and rooftop of this 40 year old workshop have been renewed and adjusted to modern day demands of interior climate, wellbeing and safety Werkhuizen MIN is an extraordinary workshop; they offer a workspace for disabled people who handle and manufacture packaging, wrappings and coverings They strive to create a proper, safe and strong but preserved environment in today s modern urban society The smaller side-building was demolished and a replaced for a new service-zone with elevators, toilets and entrances by Antwerp-based META uurbureau The larger brick workshop is renovated On the ground floor lies the storage space, first and second are for the workshops itself, on the fourth offices and dressing rooms Last and best is the roof-top petanque-court that offers a great view of the Antwerp skyline Artist Perry Roberts added the interior graphics and signs photo: Sarah Blee Project is not public! photo: Allard van der Hoek photo: Allard van der Hoek Workshop Building Hoogmolendijk 1 2900 Schoten Located in a context of sculptural industrial buildings along the Albertkanaal, a canal connecting the cities of Antwerp and Luik, an inexpensive building was designed that houses an extraordinary multitude of functions: concierge apartment, office space, meeting room, cafeteria, changing rooms, wood- and metal workshop, a garage and outside storage space The fence around the plot forms an inexpensive façade with an intriguing moiré effect, through which its black hypodermis, consisting of insulation material, remains visible Inside the more complex functions are fittingly located in its head An incision marking the main entrance splits the head into 2: One part facing West containing the cafeteria and office space, the other facing South and housing the concierge apartment which has a loggia looking out over the canal The result is a beastlike structure that can easily compete with its older neighbours when it comes to sculptural shape and recognizability photo: Allard van der Hoek Project is not public!
